First, you know you haven't been relevant in the league in a long time when you're excited about winning a preseason game. Too bad they don't give out preseason trophies. Also sad that you are the least competitive and interesting football team in that area. How long have the Ravens been there? It's taken only that amount of time to make the rest of the county remember that actual pro football is played out there.
As for the Ravens t-shirts? Very cute. I'm sure the Steelers are shaking as much as they were last year when the Ravens put a "hit" out on Hines Ward. More like laughing, as he does every time he burns them over the middle. A little less time talking Ravens and a little more time winning at least 1 of 3 games against the class of the division and not having your players taken off on stretchers. Good luck doing that also sans Rex Ryan and Bart Scott. You're a team with an aging defense, a decent running game and a good QB that has to show that he's the real deal. You don't hear the Patriots or the Steelers talk trash, they just win. Something the Ravens failed three times in doing last year against the 6 time champion Steelers!

Is going to a crappy team w/ a great but now oft injured QB better than
going to a crappy team w/ a mediocre and now oft injured QB an upgrade or lateral

Maybe Lendale can somehow find a way to fasten his belt around his arm and the football so that he doesn't fumble at very inopportunte times in huge games (please see: on the Ravens' 15 yard line in last year's playoffs).
He also spent a lot of time jumping up and down with the Terrible Towel last year when they beat Pittsburgh during the regular season (and by the way their celebrations looked, assumed they had just won the Super Bowl, forgetting about that whole playoffs things). Maybe Lendale just has a lot of pashion for fashion and fashion accessories. He should look into his own line for plus-sized men.

Luvdatdurdywatta,

No, I'm not on meds. Finishing my third year of medical school and thinking you may be a prime candidate for some pharma-care, though.

Ben has been the reason we've won our 5th Super Bowl ('06) and YES, is one the MAJOR reasons why we're not beating comparable/lesser teams this year b/c of his crucial turnovers.

That said, he was the QB of a winning Super Bowl team in '06, and very likely will do so again. I'm sure he remembers his sub-par Super Bowl performance, but more so, he remembers taking his team, the 6TH seeded in the AFC, to the Super Bowl (first time ever for a 6th seed) by winning on the road at Cincy, Indy, Denver and at Detroit for XL. In the latter, he didn't have a great game, but saved the season on the road at Indy with his tackle and played lights -out in Denver with his arm. YOUNGEST QB to win a Super Bowl. You can blog and say what you will, but he got a ring in his second year (15-1 in his first, btw) in the league, and there's nothing to show me that he won't get 2-3 more.

Either way, he's won a Super Bowl, I'm going
to be a doctor in 5 months, and you can't spell "mediocre". You must be so proud!

Luvdatdurdywatta (aka "M-E-D-O-C-R-E"),

Ever thought about going on Wheel of Fortune?

FYI:

mediocre
adjective 1. of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate.
2. rather poor or inferior.

Origin:
1580???90; < MF < L mediocris in a middle state, lit., at middle height = medi(us) mid 1 + OL ocris rugged mountain, c. Gk ??kris, akin to ??kros apex; cf. Umbrian ocar hill, citadel

Ben is "M-E-D-O-C-R-E"? Brilliant. Yet, in your post you talk about "average intellect" and in your next post, use the word "intelligent (correctly spelled too!).

I'm a Steelers' fan and am happy that Ben brought another Super Bowl Trophy back to Pittsburgh, and while I'm objective enough to realize that he's got the ability to make them a contender and the faults to keep them from getting their 6th ring, I am quite certain that you and your obvious above average intellect will continue to impress and captivate your friends at the bus station, er home.

Hi early success was definitely aided by a team already solid in defense and running game, however, even though Ben wasn't asked to put up insane numbers, at an early age (actually, the youngest EVER to win a Super Bowl) he made veteran-type throws when they needed them, made a game/season/title saving tackle in Indy, and played out of his mind in the three road games leading up to the Super Bowl (remember, it was his FIRST YEAR AS A STARTED AND SECOND IN THE LEAGUE).

His decision making last year was, in my opinion, what this guys is all about. His body of work (college and pro) demonstrates his ability to win. He's banged up and has been running for his life all year because the o-line is horrible, but he also has to take his share of the blame not only for the critical interceptions, but for the sacks that are not caused by o-line breakdown.

People who are quick to say that he's "over-rated" haven't looked at the numbers he has put up, namely wns. People also OVER-estimate the offensive talent he has around him. Obviously (and most importantly), the o-line is pathetic. Parker is damaged goods, Ward is a great possession reciever, but aside from Holmes (when he's not high), there aren't nearly the weapons that people think there are on that offense.

People will debate Ben's value because he "snuck" under the radar, won a Super Bowl in his second year, and he plays in a town where anything less than a Championship is a failure. Is he struggling? Yes. Is it all b/c of his shoulder/hand? Unlikely. Ben won games that the Steelers historically shouldn't have been in. Now the defense is very good again and he needs to limit his mistakes.

He is what he is: a qb with a great arm, big play potential, quasi-mobility, great leader and prone to the big turnover. Hopefully, he'll correct the latter. In the meantime, his body of work thus far tells me that he's the guy to run things, and unless you're a Giants, Patriots, or Colts fan, you've got little to say about winning big games in recent history. Much more is expected of the QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers because the Championship bar has been set very high.

Posted Friday September 12, 2008, About: Company cashes in on Brady injury
gahook,
With all due respect, there were more than one Bengals, Browns and Ravens fan wearing a motorcycle helmet to Steelers games the year following Ben's near death accident, in addition to some genius who put the picture of the freak from Goonies on a t-shirt as an "after" picture. I also recall hearing "Ben's a vegetable" when I wore Steelers gear while living in Chicago that year. All of the above was classless and tasteless (especially since the guy almost died), as is the t-shirt that this clown has "created" celebrating Brady's injury. That there are d-bags fans in every city shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I like to think that the majority of fans (myself included) never like to see opposing players get hurt to the point where they can't play. I got almost as sick as Bengal fan when Palmer went down in the playoffs a couple of years ago.
Posted Saturday August 23, 2008, About: Injured RB frustrates Bengals
As a Steelers' fan, I can't say that I'm not happy with the continued dysfunction in Cincy, but I do feel bad for Palmer and to a lesser extent, M. Lewis. Palmer is a stud and needs to be with an organization committed to winning it all. Marvin Lewis is a solid coach but in a no-win situation working for a man who's too involved in personnel decisions.

Non-story from Steelers' camp. Less worried about this fatty getting back into pro-bowl shape by running extra over the next two weeks than I am about 43 showing up injured (again) after skipping the OTA's to train w/ his USC training guru. Regardless, we've got the Cryboys at home, and given Romo's track record in high-pressure games (and his 1st visit to Heinz), I'm much less worried about them than I am about NE, Jacksonville and San Diego. Dallas will scare me when they start winning playoff games again.

Who cares? The guy is amazing, but the Bears are a train wreck, not worth watching, have nothing to look forward to in the foreseeable future aside from high draft picks, and have as many Super Bowl titles as Tampa Bay. An old defense, an offense w/o BOTH of the RBs and the two main WRs that were there for the Super Bowl (loss) year, a division where the other three teams are as good (and younger) if not better than the Bears, and a front office who feels so good about the worst 1-2 QB combo in the league that they decide to not draft one this year. Yeah, enjoy 2008 Bears??? fans.

The biggest rivalry in MLB isn't Boston v. NY, at least not the Red Sox v Yankees. It's Red Sox fans v. Yankee fans, as in which is a bigger group of d-bags. With their recent success, Red Sox fans have made it too close to call now.

I found $11.35 in coins between our couch and car. Anyone want to go in with us, buy the team and put this story to rest?
Posted Thursday July 10, 2008, About: Does Cuban want to buy the Steelers?
Far be it from me to point out the obvious to a self-made billionaire, but isn't precisely BECAUSE of the salary cap that small market teams (see Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Carolina, even (ugh) everybody's sexy pick this year, Cleveland) can and do compete and succeed (and why the NFL is by far the most popular and interesting American game)? Having the means to simply buy yourself a championship (or at least get your team into the conversation every year) by outspending the rest of the league is the hallmark of MLB and why, (even though a RELATIVELY lower payroll team occasionally catches lightning in a bottle) for the most part it's going to be the usual suspects (now that the Cubs have one of the highest payrolls in the league, add them to the list) in the postseason. With the salary cap (see also the NHL), owners and GMs have to employ a hell of a lot more strategy in assembling a competitive team, balancing superstar salaries with the overall demands of building a winning team. The Steelers and Browns are two small market teams, and while the Steelers aren???t big free-agent spenders (instead preferring to build through the draft), they don???t hesitate to lock up franchise players who???ve proven their worth (see Ben and Hines). Furthermore, players with character who value winning as much or more than a paycheck, often take ???hometown??? discounts to remain with the organization they love and to allow said organization to use that extra money to bring in other key players. While large market teams in Boston (NE) and NY have had success recently, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis have won Super Bowls more recently that the Patriots, while the last time Chicago won and Miami mattered was twenty-plus years ago. Cuban should stick with his pursuit of a MLB team and help the Cubs buy a championship, or for that matter, reflect on why he couldn???t buy one in Dallas..

Insane Hussein - 1985 was a long time ago, and one great year does not a dynasty make. Hey, at least you have a broken down d-fense, mediocre offensive line, a backfield sans T. Jones and Ced, no WRs to speak of, and the brightest QB in the league to make you really excited about the '08 Bears (or, the '09 draft). Always remember that the Bears have as many Super Bowl wins as Tampa Bay, Indianapolis and the Ravens.

Unless you're a fan of the other two teams that can lay claim to 5 Super Bowl victories, go back to blogging about baseball and doing so in a way that is quiet enough not to wake your parents upstairs. Who, in 2008, is still of the belief that professional (or amateur) sports are anything but a business and that everyone involved is out to serve his own best interest? Baseball fan? (Please refer to such ??? legends??? as Rodger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, etc???). Cowboy fans, I hate your team, but along with 49er fan, you get my respect for being one of the three in the 5 SUPER BOWL TITLES club!
ghostofthebabe ??? ???Mark it down, this is the beginning of the end for the Rooney Era???? Yes, there is serious reason to believe that the same family who has owned the team since the 1930???s, has seen them win 5 Super Bowls in the modern era, is beloved in Pittsburgh like no other family, has more than enough money to keep the players and fans more than happy, as well as the tradition of winning alive, is in jeapordy of not owning the team in the near future. The Steelers are one, if not THE greatest football franchises in history. Deal with it, cupcake.
