You can add Minneapolis, Houston and Atlanta to that list as well.
Posted Monday April 08, 2013, About: Kings-Ducks at Dodger Stadium nears reality
Ice quality in the heat isn't as much an issue. They did a preseason game in a parking lot in Las Vegas in early September back in the 90s and had few problems from what I heard. But what has been asked already still stands: Why play this game in L.A.? What history is there besides the great battle in South Central in "Mighty Ducks 2?"
Posted Friday November 02, 2012, About: Winter Classic 2014 in Ann Arbor?
It'll be another Michigan-Michigan State battle. It worked a couple of years ago.
Posted Wednesday October 31, 2012, About: Sponsors ready to ditch NHL?
Apparently Bettman and company learned absolutely nothing from the 2004-05 lockout. I love my Blackhawks, but it's getting really hard to follow a team (and a league) that keeps shutting down every few years. It's a shame, really...
Posted Sunday September 30, 2012, About: NFL unlikely to return to LA before 2014
Doesn't the Rams' contract at the Edward Jones Dome end in 2014 or 2015? If so, they would be a likely pick. There are also the Raiders, Jaguars and Chargers (in that order). I expect the Bills to stay put or move to Toronto (fourth largest market in North America, never mind the taxes and currency issues). The Vikings seem to have finally got their new stadium to replace the Metrodome, so they're staying put.
Posted Tuesday September 11, 2012, About: NBA one giant leap closer to Seattle return
Toronto is a major market, so I wouldn't say they shouldn't have pro sports. That said, it's as much as a basketball town as Atlanta is a hockey town (as in, not much at all). I would say the likely candidates starts with the Kings, with the Raptors, Hornets, Bobcats, and Grizzlies rounding out the top 5. The Clippers are an outside candidate (very outside).
Posted Friday August 24, 2012, About: Marlins ready to go young, take lumps?
Someone's gotta be in the cellar.

And don't gloat too much about the Nats - it wasn't that long ago that they were in the same position as the Marlins, with a brand new ballpark yet not much of a future until Harper and Strasberg came along.
Posted Monday August 20, 2012, About: La Russa a candidate in Houston?
Exactly right. No way LaRussa takes over a AA team like the Astros (with apologies to AA teams). We've got a better chance of seeing him back with the A's or White Sox before going to Houston.

Yeah, tell that to Bill Snyder at Kansas State.
Posted Monday July 09, 2012, About: NFL attendance in steady decline
That about summed it up there. I'm a huge Bears fan, but I'd rather go see Iowa or Iowa State play in person than the Bears because of lower ticket prices ($90-100 at most in the Big 10 and Big 12, and that's only if the schools are trying to keep the rival fans away, compared to the NFL STARTING at about $150), better atmosphere (college students and the bands), don't have to pay as much for parking ($10 the last time I went to an Iowa game, and it was only 2-3 blocks from the stadium, compared to the $100 I saw in a photo from Cowboys Stadium). And you're right about the generally friendly atmosphere, even among rivals. I can't remember any huge fights happening at an Iowa-Iowa State game or even Alabama-Auburn or Ohio State-Michigan (arguably the most heated rivalries in college football), as opposed to trying to take my kids to the Black Hole at a Raiders game or a Giants or Jets game in the Meadowlands.
Posted Monday July 02, 2012, About: Rays' eyeing Cubs All-Star
If the Rays want Soriano, they can have him. He's been a liability in left field for a while, so he can DH down there. Plus, the Cubs could get some young talent in return and build for the future , even if they have to eat most of Soriano's contract. At this point, I'd settle for a bag of magic beans in return.
Posted Monday May 28, 2012, About: Bears already phasing out Forte
I don't get it. Here we have a guy that despite a less than consistent offensive line (I'm being kind here), practically carries the Bears until he get hurts. Get him into camp!
Posted Wednesday May 16, 2012, About: Would the Big 12 court Duke and UNC?
That would be fun. :)

But you're right: UNC and Duke will NEVER leave the ACC for the Big 12. The Big 12 is better off either staying at 10 teams or expanding back to 12 (the mathematically correct number for the name) with schools like Louisville, Houston and BYU.
Posted Wednesday May 16, 2012, About: Bulls aren't planning to see Rose next season
Great. The sad thing is the Bulls could still be better than a lot of teams out there. At the same time, considering how badly they went down against the Sixers after Rose got hurt, we could see the NBA version of the Colts next season, where they lost their best player (Peyton Manning) and just completely died.
Posted Tuesday May 15, 2012, About: Cutler worried about Bears' offensive line
All I keep thinking of is that game against the Giants was he was sacked 9 times in the FIRST HALF. While the line did shape up a little bit as the year went on, it's still nowhere where it should be.
Posted Tuesday April 10, 2012, About: Could Florida lose the Panthers?
Miami is arguably the worst sports town in the country (edging out Atlanta, though Atlanta stays in the fight because of love for football). On who should get the Panthers (and Coyotes and Isles) when they move? Go with KC, Seattle and Quebec. Hamilton is too close to Toronto and Buffalo and would not happen. I'd push for Milwaukee (Cheeseheads love their hockey, too), but the same argument against Hamilton could be made here with Chicago and the Twin Cities very close, though that would be a great rivalry with the Red Wings thrown in (see NFC North in the NFL).
Posted Friday June 24, 2011, About: Urlacher fires back at Jones, blasts Soldier Field
I think the Chicago Park District has said it wants to keep grass at Soldier Field rather than putting down artificial turf because of all of the international soccer games the stadium hosts each year (FIFA doesn't allow turf for any games).
Posted Thursday October 21, 2010, About: Would Leach take North Texas job?
Why not? I think of what happened with George O'Leary. He got caught lying on his resume when he was hired by Notre Dame and lost that job promptly. He's now at Central Florida, building the beginnings of a potential powerhouse, or at least a team that can make a lot of noise. Leach could take a team like North Texas that was on the rise and now is down and turn things around, especially with that prime recruiting area in the Dallas area.
