BTW..don't think Maryland is elite at all. Just don't think OSU is either.

How exactly has the Big 14 been more competitive in the last 12 years? Less national titles? I could make the same argument about being top heavy with OSU and MSU. The ACC has also had Georgia Tech make a final four, NC state and Florida state with tourney wins, etc..Indiana a national power? Just because of this year? The same types of successes in the Big 14 have been seen in every conference. Just not every conference has the National titles to go along with it.

BTW. Since 2000.
Maryland 8 tourneys 1 NT, 2 FF's, 3 SS's
Ohio State, 9 tourneys, O NT, 2 FF's, 4 SS's
Yet OSU is elite and Maryland is not? Doesn't look like that argument holds up if you are saying OSU is one of the elite's of the Big 14. Especially when an "also ran" compares quite well to an "elite"in the conference.

haha..

agreed. But it's hard enough thinking of Miami and Tech as ACC schools let alone those 3...I hate this reallignment stuff...

Probably. It's kind of like with arguing with my Dad. He went to school there in the 70's and has far more hatred/competativeness with UNC then I do with Duke (was there in late 90's early 2000's)

I'm aware Duke stunk it up before K and that it was more about UNC and State.

I really enjoy Big 14 football. I like the game played in long grass in the elements. I just don't think Maryland can compete. It's definitely a step up conference wise. It's just tough for an ACC guy to admit any conference is better than what we do best (other than maybe lax or women's soccer), lol

Again, I disagree. Just look at the last 12 years, starting in 2000. 5 ACC champions, three different teams. Big 14..One (Mich St). In the last 20 years, Final fours, ACC 21 Big 14 15. If you want to go back 50 years sure..but that's like saying the SEC is not the pre dominant conference in Football since michigan dominated the early 1900's

I know its def about the $$$. But the way Loh is talking is that UMD needs the money just to keep the Athletic Dept afloat. They've cut 7 programs this year. They may use the money to build bigger things. Just don't see losing by 50 to 6 teams instead of 2 as benefiting the recruiting process..

And that 1 is a big if...
Posted Tuesday November 20, 2012, About: Plank bankrolling Maryland's ACC exit?
These are all true but perception is reality. It's not a lateral move for a recruit who is guaranteed TV time aginst Duke and UNC. Maybe I'm biased but I don't see the same excitement generated when Wisconsin and tOSU tip off or for the Big 14 tourney vs ACC tourney. Not trying to be argumentative but legit asking, how many National titles does the Big 14 have vs the ACC in the last 10 years?

I agree it is definitely a step up in football. However I just don't see them competing in any way shape or form. So is it a step up if you're 1-7 in conference?

They played PSU every year until they moved to the Big 14..problem was, rivalry was kinda like Yankees/Sox or a Hammer/Nail... The biggest problem to me is that Football is where the money is and the ACC is just not a football conference outside of FSU. Sure they added Miami and VT but Miami has been swooning and VT has never been able to beat anyone outside of their weak conference Acc or Big East..

I agree. Gary never recruited great (by analysts standards). Gonna be harder to recruit bball talent now with the allure of the ACC gone..
Posted Tuesday November 20, 2012, About: Plank bankrolling Maryland's ACC exit?
Not sure how winning the Big 14 would be easier than winning the cake ACC...maybe in Bball
Posted Tuesday November 20, 2012, About: Plank bankrolling Maryland's ACC exit?
I understand the move, I just think it hurts in the long run. Sure the money will be nice for a while. But it's all about football now and how's it going to help when you get trounced by 6 teams a year instead of 2? Not to mention taking your star program (albeit not the money machine) basketball to a lesser conference.

For years people around here HATED PSU for taking recruits away from College Park. Now the region will be raided by not only PSU but Michigan, tOSU, Nebraska you name it.. Short term gain long term pain (except for Under Armour) IMHO
Posted Tuesday November 20, 2012, About: Plank bankrolling Maryland's ACC exit?
Of course he is. Kevin Anderson doesn't run that athletic department, Plank and Under armour do. Anderson is just a mouthpiece for Plank. Yes this will be a financial gain for the dept but part of me thinks its Under Armours plan to get into the Big 14 schools and the terps are his tool. Gonna suck when instead of just being flattened by FSU and Clemson/VT they get flattened by tOSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, MSU and PSU can resume a yearly destruction...Long term loss for the program IMHO.

Gonna hurt Bball (what the school is really about) as well...

Why would they leave (I guess money). almost a guaranteed conference championship every year. Good move by my terps (sarcasm!). Instead of being flat out destroyed twice a year in football they get to do it 5 or 6 times now!

I wonder how much of this is to get Under Armor (the real U of M athletic department) into deals with these other Big 14 schools..
Posted Monday November 19, 2012, About: Maryland legend Len Elmore rips Terps' rumored Big Ten move
They have a huge television market for the Big 14 to tap into..that's about it..
For years they lost football recruits to PSU. Now, with that increased coverage in the area, they can continue to lose them to the other big 14 schools.

Not going to be able to fill that stadium when you lose by 60 every week to tOSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, MSU, Penn St, Michigan, etc...
Maybe they'll beat Indiana or Illinois...

Sigh...thanks alot Under Armour U. Sux that Kevin Plank now runs this school...
2 things happen here:
1. Less basketball recruits committing. Who wants to play in the Big 10 over the ACC...sub par recruits, that's who....B Ball (what the school really is) loses.
2. Football doesn't get COMPLETELY embarassed twice a year (FSU and Clemson/VT/whoever) anymore...nope...now it's 5 or 6 times a year...football loses...

Good move Plank..uh.. I mean anderson (like you're really running that Athletic Dept.)
