I don't like Bonds, but to say that he was ineffective is just stupid.

And I didn't say he WAS ineffective. I'm saying he wouldn't be effective if he was signed now. STUPID!

"Stupid. Bonds was one of the best hitters last year."

SlinkyRedfoot | 06/27/08, 01:31 PM

By best "hitter" do you mean 147th in AVG, 23rd in HR, and 61st in RBI in just the National League?

The last three seasons were his worst since the '80's (pre-roid). You know, in theory, they test for that stuff now. So he's probably not going to stay healthy and he sure can't run the bases. So he'll need to do what he does best lately, walk or hit it out. No one's going to be afraid to pitch to him now, and I'm sure his bat speed would be great after his time off.

Bonds' departure didn't cause sub-.500 ball after the '92 season. Pitching did. Prior to 1993, the team ERA had been above 4.00 only once since 1955. It's only been under 4.00 once since.

"Bo Knows" comebacks. He's less than a couple years older than Bonds. Bo could be just as ineffective as Bonds, but without the negativity.

Dagwood-

Dunn & Bruce are going to be on the corners. Currently there are plenty of options in CF who can lead off too (which we need) - Freel, Hopper, Hairston, Cabrera. I'm purposely not mentioning Patterson. Maybe he'll be packaged in the deal with Jr. I like Jr., but the Reds can't afford to keep him if they want to contend, regardless of the money.

You're right - firing Dusty now isn't going to do any good. Jr. is all but history. I'll take Dunn's slow **** in LF as long as he hits 40 HR. And he's not going anywhere - Castellini loves him. I don't know what the answer is for Edwin, but he could be headed to Louisville as soon as we have healthy replacements. As for pitching, after last year, I'm content.

Sorry, no pitching - we can't revert to our horrible 2007 staff. We've used at least 5 shortshops this year mainly due to injury. We'll eventually have a surplus and most of them can play 2nd. How about ex-Yank Andy Phillips? Or Hairston, Paul Janish (SS), Cabrera, even Freel? Hell take Alex Gonzalez at short and we'll keep Keppinger. So you're offering up Molina - good luck with out ex-catcher LaRue!

Trade Griffey for a #5 starting pitcher or a better hitting catcher. Move Bruce to right and put Hairston (DL) in center. Keppinger is coming off the DL soon and will be back at short. Maybe move Cabrera to 3rd if Edwin struggles? But otherwise this roster is solid. Someone (apparently not Dusty Baker) needs to convince them that they can win!

wtnelson- What are you talking about? We just gave you Juan Castro. Now we're even!

It's unfortunate that the Reds didn't build a winning team around Jr., injured or not. That's in the past and the Reds can't afford to have him in the lineup after they profit from number 600. Though nobody seems to care that someone legit is going to reach the feat for the first time in nearly 40 years. Sell Griffey so you can afford Dunn. Jay Bruce will fill the empty void with plenty of dough to spare.

Take Fogg back! Just give the Reds someone, ANYONE, that can hit the damn ball when someone is in scoring position.

Abe is right, half of the Red's pitching staff has a better AVG than Juan. The only time I would put him in is the bottom of the ninth on defense.
Posted Tuesday May 06, 2008, About: Hatteberg open to Reds trade
He received a demotion to the bench in return for batting .310 in 2007. But, he had to know the Reds were grooming Votto. Hatteberg isn't going to be an effective pinch-hitter. The Reds need to make a trade. Even at his age, he can be a asset to a team in a platoon situation at 1st base.
