I've been watching this game closely for 50 years and have compared what Roy did at Kansas with what Self has done at KU, Illinois, Tulsa and Oral Roberts and though I still respect what Roy did at KU and is still doing at NC, I can without hesitation put him in league with both Roy and Dean.

To claim that the Big 12 is not a grade A hoops conference is to not pay attention. Great talent and coaching are a hallmark and their combined record against the other premier conferences put them on par. I can concede that Self hasn't yet established the resume of coach K but he hasn't been around as long yet so...time will tell. The most significant tell might be to ask the question: If you had a coaching vacancy who would you hire ahead of Self?

For my money thats a VERY short list.

Okay...who is in the same class as Wooden? Crickets chirping...not Roy, not Mike, not Dean...NO ONE is in Wooden's class. So where does that leave Self? In a VERY elite club with Roy and Mike and Dean as the best of the rest. And thats good enough for this Kansas boy!
