While Elton Brand would be a nice addition, this injury should make the Sixers proceed cautiously. The Sixers really need an Al Horford type player - young, strong with lots of potential.
The reality is that this was an awkward fit from the start and this season proved that. Petrino is better in college and the Falcons need to build a foundation with someone like Mike Singletary as coach.
These boys will have to become men now. However, their parents cannot help them avoid the consequences of their actions. In fact, the less the parents are involved, the better.
When you are a household name, you are held to a higher standard whether you like it or not. Parents cannot assume young adults will just start making good decisions one day. A father's involvement in the high school years is critical to kids becoming good decision makers. Some mothers can overcome the absence of the father in this situation, but it requires a person to be proactive and structured.
The area where the Reids live is called the Main Line and this wealthy suburb appears so safe that it gives parents a false sense of security that they assume kids will make positive decisions without requiring parents to be hands-on. Julius Erving lived in the same area and his sons got into similar trouble.
So I agree totally with the judge. The parents have some responsibility in these terrible incidents. Coach Reid was so busy providing for his family that it appears he forgot he needed to raise them as well.
