All rivalry and hating (on both sides) aside, how great would it be to renew the old Catholics v. Convicts rivalry? By saying this please understand that I mean no disrespect to coach Shannon and the program that he is putting together, this is just what this rivalry was called back in the day when ND v. Miami really meant something. I would love to see the new ND AD step up to the plate and renew this classic rivalry. Hopefully both teams will return to glory and make this a yearly event that the winning team can use in a discussion for National championship consideration.
Though I vowed to say nothing else, I want to thank you for proving my point. If you come from a very rich family, ND is still less expensive than most private schools within 20 spots either way in the rankings academically, but if you have financial need, and are smart enough to be admitted, they go the whole nine to make it affordable. Much of this is due to the NBC contract.
MrMyiagiJr is also correct, next time you watch the SEC on CBS, just remember who opened that door for you and thank the leprechaun on your way through.
I am disappointed to hear such blatant stereotyping from someone claiming to represent a school that is one of the pioneers of affirmative action.
I will say this once more and then I am done. "If you do not like ND than DO NOT WATCH, but for many this contract means the chance of a lifetime and that is the REAL STORY here."
The real issue is not the tution/room and board cost, but actual cost after grants and scholarships from the school. Here are some fun quotes for you from ND's website.
"Revenues from the NBC contract have played a key role in Notre Dame's financial aid endowment since the start of the relationship in 1991. University officers decided then to use a portion of the football television contract revenue for undergraduate scholarship endowment (not athletic scholarships). To date, some 2,400 Notre Dame undergraduate students have received nearly $26 million in aid."
"The revenue generated through the NBC contract is a primary reason why Forbes magazine has recognized the substantial financial contributions made by Irish athletics to the University's academic enterprise. In a 2007 survey, Forbes reported that the Notre Dame football program returns $21.1 million to academic initiatives, a total that is more than the survey's next five programs combined."
As I said, "[this] allows many who would not have otherwise been able to attend the chance to go to an excellent academic university. If you do not like ND than do not watch, but for many this contract means the chance of a lifetime and that is the real story here."
