Posted Tuesday September 29, 2009, About: Bills fan dumps popcorn on T.O.
I like the way T.O. works. I like the way he approaches the game. I like the fact that he wants the ball, feeling that he can help a team win games.

I do not like his methods for addressing issues - on the field (in McNabb's face), via the media (remember his sit-ups?), twitter (Rodney Harrison used WHAT??!?!?!), etc.

And for the clown that says we dislike him because he can afford hamburgers and we cannot...you're an idiot.

Philly had enough of him and suspended him for his antics. Dallas was a zoo to begin with and he kind of fit in...but was labeled the "problem" and quite honestly became the scape goat. In Buffalo...there is NO REASON he doesn't get 10-12 balls thrown to him each game. Giving him that sort of attention should free up the field for Lee Evans and the rest of the crew - THEY WON'T DOUBLE-TEAM HIM IF THEY DON'T THINK YOU'RE THROWING TO HIM.

For once T.O. took the high road.
Posted Monday September 28, 2009, About: Cubs don't want Harden back
This is the PERFECT example of a player that needs to be signed to a "pay-as-you-perform" contract - base it heavily on IP.

I'd give the guy $10m if he gets to 200 IP in a season. Odds are he'll have have 28-30+ starts in that instance and will be worth it - HEAVILY incentive laden deal though.
Posted Friday September 25, 2009, About: Giants future unclear for Sanchez, GM
I'll tell you what...I remember reading on boards how great the minor league system was for the Giants. I'm glad Bumgarner made it to the bigs - seems like a class act and a stud too!

But Alderson and Barnes are gone, bringing in Garko and Sanchez. Those trades just did not seem to bring enough of what SF needed. I mean, what could they have received if they had offered BOTH Alderson AND Barnes to someone in the same trade?

Now Villalona is in prison...and may be for a loooong time. The minor league system took a big hit in 2009.
Posted Monday August 10, 2009, About: La Russa: Pirates threw at Pujols
Ozzie is right.

Capps hits Pujols on the 2nd pitch after a home run. Next inning, a Cards pitcher hits a Pirates player and it's done.

Instead, the umpires decide to KNOW what is going on and eject Capps. Now, LaRussa thinks his guy got hit on purpose, but cannot retaliate due to the ejection and warnings. Next time the Pirates and Cards get together, it may be retaliation time.

Why the heck don't they just LET THEM PLAY. Some Pirate is going to talk to Capps after the game, because his lack of pitching skill (HR to Shumaker), and subsequent frustration with that lack of skill (drilling Pujols), got his teammate drilled in return. At least then it is over.

It should be allowed to play out. It is baseball, whether you like it or not.
Posted Monday August 10, 2009, About: La Russa: Pirates threw at Pujols
LaRussa needs to shut up and manage.

If it was intentional in his mind, it should have been repaid in the 9th, not talked about after the game or the next day.
Posted Sunday August 02, 2009, About: Twins balked at Pirates demands
I'll agree with the comment above: "Feel bad for us if the owners pocket the savings and dont do anything next year."

They have traded away MILLIONS of $$$ in payroll - ownership had better make it a priority to sign Miguel Sano, even if it costs $6m.

They also should have the money to sign ALL the highschool arms they drafted in the 4 - 9th round, for basically whatever the kids want to get out of their verbals to D-I schools.

If ownership wants to go cheap on payroll, they had better spend the MILLIONS elsewhere.
Posted Sunday June 28, 2009, About: Do Cubs regret signing Bradley?
I'm constantly critical of Milton Bradley, but the Bradley that spoke to the media yesterday...was different. I don't know what was said behind closed doors to him, but for once I would dare say he seemed humbled.

He did not go off. He carefully chose his answers to the media's questions. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out, but they probably threatened to send him to Washington if he kept it up.
Posted Saturday June 27, 2009, About: Rockets wanted Thabeet
He will improve, but he is soft.

DeJuan Blair owned him, playing very physical and thus taking Thabeet out of his game.

He'll learn though, and should be a quality NBA player.
Posted Sunday May 31, 2009, About: Yankees, Braves eyeing DeRosa?
DeRosa would add depth at all IF positions and the corner OF positions.
Posted Sunday May 31, 2009, About: Boras has leverage on Nationals
This is a NON-story. He has all the leverage because he is the BEST player in the draft - period.

Anything else is just gravy.
Posted Saturday May 30, 2009, About: Crosby hype irks Wings coach
Great point, and absolutely correct!

I'm not going to disagree with Babcock either! But Syd is an excellent choice for the face of the NHL - he plays well, he speaks well, he says the right things, respects the game, and is on a successful team. That is what the NHL wants; that is what the NHL gets.

But those that follow hockey KNOW that Detroit is DAMN solid at every position and has multiple all-star caliber players at the various positions, and the system they employ is successul every year. It should be a great series, but the Pens will HAVE TO be on top of their game to beat the Wings.

Syd's "facial hair" is pathetic though. Thank GOD his game is better than his facial hair!!!
Posted Wednesday May 27, 2009, About: Manny an All-Star starter?
While I agree with much of your comment, keep in mind THE FANS ARE THE ONES VOTING FOR MANNY!!!!! So what sort of message is that sending...the fans don't give a damn about his PED usage - at least they don't in L.A.

Also, don't be an idiot and throw Bud Selig into the mix here. There is an agreement with the Union in place that, I'm SURE, doesn't ban the players from partaking in all-star games. That could affect bonuses paid to players, which affects their income, which becomes an issue with them. Don't try to throw Bud under the bus...it is the fans fault if he makes it!
Posted Tuesday May 26, 2009, About: Dodgers owner miffed at Manny
I guess in the individualistic mind that was only concerned about HIMSELF when he took the illegal substance, he doesn't owe it to ANYONE to be with the team.

Oh wait, did I just use the "t" word...."team"? He has what we call TEAMMATES that he could help by working with them while suspended. He has what we call TEAMMATES that he will be playing with when he gets back from his suspension.

Regardless if he's getting paid or not, he still has the same BOSS. I wonder if there is an "insubordination" clause in the contract...
Posted Saturday May 23, 2009, About: Did ESPN jilt Millen?
ESPN now has Steve Phillips on their Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts...

This sets the precedent for them hiring Matt Millen - Millen and Phillips BOTH sucked! Put them on TV!
Posted Tuesday May 12, 2009, About: Ex-player: Red Sox taught steroids use
People can adamantly deny it. Whatever.

It is interesting that this player, WHO DID NOT PLAY LONG ENOUGH TO GET A PENSION OR MLB INSURANCE (which costs big bucks)...is coming forward.

Are there more out there? Who, and from what teams?

We know there was/is a problem. Just cut the "not my team" BS and deal with it.
Posted Sunday May 10, 2009, About: Taylor leaning toward Patriots?
I'm simply curious as to why the Union has nothing to say about what happens in New England - veteran players taking below market value to play for the Patriots. If I were another defensive end, I would not be happy with Jason Taylor if he takes below-market to play in New England, nor should any other player. I guess the Union doesn't govern these things (like the Union in baseball does) - perhaps this is, along with the salary cap, is one of the reasons the NFL is thriving while MLB is not (that and how the MLB has apparently been keeping the syringe-making business going for the past how many years...).

That being said, you have to respect what they do and how they do it!

Ugh...this writer NEEDS a new thesaurus.

I HATE when writers confuse bionic with geriatric.
Posted Wednesday April 29, 2009, About: Linebacker wants out of Pittsburgh
I wouldn't release him. I'd make him part of the depth at linebacker as he's under contract.

Too often these players and their agents sign contracts that they end up not liking...well too bad. I'd make him either play out his contract or forfeit $$$. Perhaps he gets traded out of camp then, but I'd make him play.

He's "classy"? There is nothing classy about what he's pulling right now. Any "class" he may have shown (his "Stomp" celebration sure is "classy") is now gone. He won two rings...that doesn't give him the right to request a trade - he's under contract. What if Timmons blows out a knee in training camp? Foote starts.

Shut up and play out your contract. "Classy"? Right...straight "Detroit Pershing Doughboys" classy.

I'm hatin'.
Posted Monday April 27, 2009, About: Mets 'really, really concerned' about pitcher
So...was Rick Peterson that good? Or is Oliver Perez just that bad?

He did this SAME thing with the Pirates...
Posted Sunday April 26, 2009, About: Should Astros trade Clemens' kid?
Right...because the fans in Lancaster, CA give a damn what his dad did. If this kid is wanted by someone, and will offer equal or greater talent in return then you make the trade. If not, you do not.

What...if this kid makes the major leagues...should they ship him over to Japan rather than let him travel to Philadelphia (those fans will EAT HIM ALIVE)? Non-story...maybe the Boston Globe can a box of pencils for the clown that thought up this article.
