Only a team with the luxury of having few, if any, glaring needs could have made this pick. It was a perfectly calculated gamble on a player with a big upside.....kind of like what was done with Willis McGahee coming out of college. That worked out OK.
The difference is the 49'ers don't need to flush their entire roster like the J-E-T-S do.
Can he block, because your horse is in the backfield. Everyone knew they were going to run and they still couldn't stop him. You gonna risk putting the ball up more with a mediocre (at best) qb?
I've said it before, THIS is the draft to take a flyer on a guy like this if you've got a veteran team with solid leadership. This draft is not loaded with a lot of immediate impact guys and if for the fact he wasn't such a f-up over the last year, he'd had been a top 5 pick.
They babysit Dez Bryant in Dallas and I don't see why, with the new rookie salary sructure in place, someone wouldn't take this guy and sign him with a performance and conduct laden contract.
The kid can flat out play and the NFL sold it's soul to the devil years ago, so now is not the time to all high and mighty. It's a risk, but in this draft, I think i's worth it because it could turn out to be gold.
It's not a particularly great draft, so why not take a flyer on a player who would have finished in the top 3 for Heisman and would have been a bonified top 10 if not top 5 pick had need not f'ed up? Make it a performance and conduct laden contract and take a shot at a player who could be a impact player from day #1.
It would have to be a team that is fairly solid to start with with a lot of veteran leadership in the locker room, but you could strike gold. It has tobetter than drafting the "can't miss" first rounder who turns out to be a bust.
KC has talent and he might perform well for Andy Reic
Arizona needs an O line, but I think he'd like to stick it to the 49ers
Cleveland doesn't have as much talent as KC, but the cupboards aren't empty either. These just need to figure out how to use what they have and add to it

Pulling hard for this kid to make it.
Their demise continues.

* has to be better

He's from Australia, maybe he's up for a part in a remake of Mad Max

I can't stand Baltimore, but John is so much more likable than Jim.
