Oh geesh. I can see this thread blowing up. First off, I'm a Jr fan, but on any given week, I'll root for about anybody (everyone knows Jr has a hard time putting a race together, no?).

I, for one, feel like having Toyota in nascar is a good thing. More competition means Chevy, Ford, and Dodge will have to keep stepping things up another notch or two - and hopefully not drive any of them out of the sport. Still, the Toyota engine is a newer engine than what everybody else is running, from what I understand, so I feel like NASCAR really found themselves in a bind with the extra horsepower the Toyota motors were creating. It's great to see a team finding some more speed, but is that because NASCAR gave Toyota too long a leash? Who knows. Hopefully NASCAR can figure out how to handle it well, and maybe clue the rest of the general public in on it it - they've been a bit too secretive recently, imho.

Anyway, somebody cheated here, obviously, or attempted to and cheaters get fined when they get caught, end of story. I hope that had it been any other team in the garage - yes even HMS - NASCAR would have dealt out the same penalties, maybe even something harsher if it had been, say the #48 or #29 with a recent history of blurring the lines.

JGR has always been a pretty stand-up place, so I find it hard to believe this was done with the approval of the owners or the drivers. Just my two cents, though.

best him, rather, in a round. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
Posted Thursday August 21, 2008, About: Will FedEx fizzle without Tiger?
Yes. It's nice to see other guys playing well, but I mean, com'mon, it would be even more exciting to see them playing well WITH Tiger. He's always the man to beat, he's amazing when he wins, and it's equally amazing to see someone best in a round of golf.

JPMFan: I have to say that's pretty retarded to toss the race card here. When JPM first started, I didn't like him because he's an F1/IndyCar/open wheel import who thinks he's better than everyone in NASCAR. The dude needed to earn it a little bit, and realize that the competition is pretty tough. His rookie year he wrecked a lot of guys & himself plenty of times, and I think he started to figure things out.

So, in his second year, he's been lower profile, he's been running good races - even with his less than top of the line equipment and some poor finishes. He still doesn't take crap from anybody, but that's okay, because most of the time, I think he knows how to retaliate now. Anyway, I'm not saying I'm a fan now, but I have more respect for the man as a driver. My newfound respect is not about "race" or his racing heritage in open wheel, but about what he's doing on the track. I don't like Kyle Busch and he's as white as I am.

Oh, and in all fairness to Kyle's older bro, I think Kurt said on MRN that he didn't like to win races like this one. Not Kurt's fault necessarily that it started raining while it did, and frankly I'd rather have him win than Mikey. Because OMG mikey would talk about it for years...

Still can't believe they won by 39 points. !!! Glad to see them do it at home, too.
Posted Monday June 02, 2008, About: McMurry won't return to Roush
Jamie McMurray, the "gayest" driver voice in NASCAR? I think JJ Yaley gives him a run for his money. They both have very high pitched, nasally voices, however.

Think of all the trouble Jack Roush went to in order to get McMurray from Chip Ganassi, and now he's letting him go. For a while there, it looked like Biffle might be leaving Roush, because he was fed up with his equipment breaking on him... I was certainly curious to see what he'd fetch on the open market.
Posted Wednesday April 23, 2008, About: Roush faces downsizing decision
Rockie55 - to answer your question, Roush still has 5 cars in 2008 because he was the only team with 5 cars in 2005 when the rule was implemented. All the other teams, then, simply could not expand past 4 cars at that point, and HMS was the only one already at 4 cars then. Roush was the only one who would need to lose a car, which is a much harder thing to do than just not expanding more. NASCAR allowed him until the end of the 2008 season to figure out what to do about that, which gave him a few seasons of having 5 cars (an advantage? a costly burden? who knows), but I still see it as a pretty fair decision.
Posted Monday March 24, 2008, About: Who's under gun at Martinsville?
Didn't Ragan make his first Cup start at Martinsville a year ago and wreck like 9 times, taking out a few good cars in the process? Should be fun to have another rookie making his first start there this year. I'm sure the other drivers are thrilled. If he takes out somebody good, he may very well find himself literally under a gun...
Posted Thursday March 20, 2008, About: Junior's fans blame crew chief
okay, so I was busying installing a newly built computer for a client of mine (yes, on a Sunday) and I missed the majority of the race. I heard the last 8 laps on the radio as I drove home.

I'm perfectly happy with a 5th place finish, at whatever cost, and I don't see the point in blaming anyone for it. My only question is, what position was Junior in /before/ the pit stops? Was he in 3rd place already, or was he in 9th and he moved up to 3rd because nearly everyone ahead of him pitted?

Just wondering. Thanks for the help on this one.
Posted Sunday August 26, 2007, About: NASCAR noise levels hazardous
Thank you, Captain Obvious. Still no cure for cancer, right?

If you don't like the noise, then don't go to the races. Don't go to concerts. Don't go to bars on weekends. Don't mow the lawn. Don't listen to iPods with the official earbuds. Don't drive with the windows down.

Every day, we are all dying a little bit more. That's just the way it is, and avoiding life will not save you from death. It is not a hard concept.

Posted Thursday July 05, 2007, About: Date change for Daytona 500?
NASCAR is the only sport which starts its season with the biggest race of the year - the Daytona 500. It's always been that way, and it should stay that way. noydbyj made a great point - putting the Daytona 500 into the pressure of the Chase would be a huge mistake. We've all seen the drivers at Homestead just keep their nose clean, knowing they only need to finish 17th or whatever in order to secure the Cup. How much would the 500 suck with guys not trying to win it, but just get a good finish?

The season ending at Homestead has never made sense to me, either, as a lot of you have stated. It's not a "premiere" track, and it only has one date. There really is nothing special at all about this track. It's a mile and a halfer. Might as well run this one at Kentucky or Chicagoland or Kansas and nobody would really notice the difference.

Switching the Homestead race with Atlanta, where the series traditionally ended, would be a great idea. Atlanta has importance as a favorite racetrack of a lot of drivers, tradition, and the tight finishes that frequently occur there. Moving Charlotte to the last race would be nice, since it would be another "home" race, but I don't think it makes as much sense as finishing at Atlanta does. Also, if Charlotte is "gifted" with the last race of the reason, they might have to give up the All-Star race, and I'd like to see that stay in Charlotte (two weeks of racing in one place is great!)

Oh yeah, and get rid of a Pocono race or Sonoma race (or better yet, one from each!), bring back The Rock or give Darlington another date, and shorten the other Pocono race. Nothing against the owners of Pocono (which is independently, and not ISC owned, thankfully), but those races are boring like crazy.
Posted Thursday June 28, 2007, About: Petty clears up TV profanity
Like Fletch346 said above me, at least he was man enough to own up to saying it (regardless of whether it's a big deal or not - which, in my humble opinion, it's not). He could have never mentioned it again and people would have never really known 100% for sure who it was. Now we do, and I can respect Kyle for that. It was a comical moment, too, seeing Kenseth's car come outta nowhere and hearing Kyle react... lol

Seriously, though, do you ever think we're really going to know who put "jet fuel-like substance" in Michael Waltrip's motor? Or if those bracket's on Dale Jr's car were really just an honest mistake? At least Kyle cleared this one up for us. End of story now.
Posted Tuesday June 26, 2007, About: Mayfield back testing No. 23
The move by BDR racing sense. Why spend the money on hauling everything out there only to haul it home after not qualifying? Putting in a road course ringer on the #23 increased their chances of getting another car into the race - and it worked. Good move by Bill, and great move by Mayfield to support a very tough decision.

If Toyota ever does take over the NASCAR world as the doom-sayers were predicting before they were allowed to field cars, at least Jeremy will be one of the founder drivers in the Toyota effort.
Posted Sunday June 24, 2007, About: Hendrick will ask DEI for No. 8
If/when DEI hires the Shrub, just pull a straight swap: driver for driver, #5 for #8. That'll save DEI in painting numbers at least (1, 5, 15 anybody?).

If Junior isn't gonna be driving a red Bud car next year, it would be nice at least if it was still the number 8.
Posted Thursday June 21, 2007, About: Rudd not ready to commit to '08
Bud8 & jackmanrob, great collective point you made there. If you're not running in the top 5 or 10, or you're not Jeff Gorden/Dale Jr/Jimmie Johnson "mired back in 38th," then you don't really ever make the race coverage unless you wreck.

I've stopped watching the TV coverage altogether, and just listen to the MRN/PRN radio coverage while using Trackpass PitCommand from NASCAR.com to keep track of who's running where. That's the only way I've found to keep track of people like Ricky Rudd.

Personally, I think he'll re-up. He's a great driver, he just driving for a company that's behind the power curve when it comes to their cars. Once the CoT starts running full time next year, RYR will have a better chance of catching up. Regardless, I'm sure he'll make a good choice whichever way he goes. He's no dummy.

And Tribe13, yeah, the DW/Jeff thing is pretty annoying. Maybe let him do it at the Daytona 500 and then call it off limits for the rest of the year. I'm a big fan of Larry McReynolds, and I missed him when the coverage switches over from Fox.

Awesome, thanks JGGintsMetsFan76 (long username!). That's the info I was looking for right there.

The deal's been in place since May 9 - is it possible that Monster trying to get on the hood of Junior's car means Bud is no longer interested, or do you think this might cause AB to have second thoughts about the deal?
