I, for one, feel like having Toyota in nascar is a good thing. More competition means Chevy, Ford, and Dodge will have to keep stepping things up another notch or two - and hopefully not drive any of them out of the sport. Still, the Toyota engine is a newer engine than what everybody else is running, from what I understand, so I feel like NASCAR really found themselves in a bind with the extra horsepower the Toyota motors were creating. It's great to see a team finding some more speed, but is that because NASCAR gave Toyota too long a leash? Who knows. Hopefully NASCAR can figure out how to handle it well, and maybe clue the rest of the general public in on it it - they've been a bit too secretive recently, imho.
Anyway, somebody cheated here, obviously, or attempted to and cheaters get fined when they get caught, end of story. I hope that had it been any other team in the garage - yes even HMS - NASCAR would have dealt out the same penalties, maybe even something harsher if it had been, say the #48 or #29 with a recent history of blurring the lines.
JGR has always been a pretty stand-up place, so I find it hard to believe this was done with the approval of the owners or the drivers. Just my two cents, though.
So, in his second year, he's been lower profile, he's been running good races - even with his less than top of the line equipment and some poor finishes. He still doesn't take crap from anybody, but that's okay, because most of the time, I think he knows how to retaliate now. Anyway, I'm not saying I'm a fan now, but I have more respect for the man as a driver. My newfound respect is not about "race" or his racing heritage in open wheel, but about what he's doing on the track. I don't like Kyle Busch and he's as white as I am.
Oh, and in all fairness to Kyle's older bro, I think Kurt said on MRN that he didn't like to win races like this one. Not Kurt's fault necessarily that it started raining while it did, and frankly I'd rather have him win than Mikey. Because OMG mikey would talk about it for years...

Think of all the trouble Jack Roush went to in order to get McMurray from Chip Ganassi, and now he's letting him go. For a while there, it looked like Biffle might be leaving Roush, because he was fed up with his equipment breaking on him... I was certainly curious to see what he'd fetch on the open market.
I'm perfectly happy with a 5th place finish, at whatever cost, and I don't see the point in blaming anyone for it. My only question is, what position was Junior in /before/ the pit stops? Was he in 3rd place already, or was he in 9th and he moved up to 3rd because nearly everyone ahead of him pitted?
Just wondering. Thanks for the help on this one.
If you don't like the noise, then don't go to the races. Don't go to concerts. Don't go to bars on weekends. Don't mow the lawn. Don't listen to iPods with the official earbuds. Don't drive with the windows down.
Every day, we are all dying a little bit more. That's just the way it is, and avoiding life will not save you from death. It is not a hard concept.
Who really cares what it's called? Just drive the darn cars...
The season ending at Homestead has never made sense to me, either, as a lot of you have stated. It's not a "premiere" track, and it only has one date. There really is nothing special at all about this track. It's a mile and a halfer. Might as well run this one at Kentucky or Chicagoland or Kansas and nobody would really notice the difference.
Switching the Homestead race with Atlanta, where the series traditionally ended, would be a great idea. Atlanta has importance as a favorite racetrack of a lot of drivers, tradition, and the tight finishes that frequently occur there. Moving Charlotte to the last race would be nice, since it would be another "home" race, but I don't think it makes as much sense as finishing at Atlanta does. Also, if Charlotte is "gifted" with the last race of the reason, they might have to give up the All-Star race, and I'd like to see that stay in Charlotte (two weeks of racing in one place is great!)
Oh yeah, and get rid of a Pocono race or Sonoma race (or better yet, one from each!), bring back The Rock or give Darlington another date, and shorten the other Pocono race. Nothing against the owners of Pocono (which is independently, and not ISC owned, thankfully), but those races are boring like crazy.
Seriously, though, do you ever think we're really going to know who put "jet fuel-like substance" in Michael Waltrip's motor? Or if those bracket's on Dale Jr's car were really just an honest mistake? At least Kyle cleared this one up for us. End of story now.
If Toyota ever does take over the NASCAR world as the doom-sayers were predicting before they were allowed to field cars, at least Jeremy will be one of the founder drivers in the Toyota effort.
If Junior isn't gonna be driving a red Bud car next year, it would be nice at least if it was still the number 8.
I've stopped watching the TV coverage altogether, and just listen to the MRN/PRN radio coverage while using Trackpass PitCommand from NASCAR.com to keep track of who's running where. That's the only way I've found to keep track of people like Ricky Rudd.
Personally, I think he'll re-up. He's a great driver, he just driving for a company that's behind the power curve when it comes to their cars. Once the CoT starts running full time next year, RYR will have a better chance of catching up. Regardless, I'm sure he'll make a good choice whichever way he goes. He's no dummy.
And Tribe13, yeah, the DW/Jeff thing is pretty annoying. Maybe let him do it at the Daytona 500 and then call it off limits for the rest of the year. I'm a big fan of Larry McReynolds, and I missed him when the coverage switches over from Fox.
The deal's been in place since May 9 - is it possible that Monster trying to get on the hood of Junior's car means Bud is no longer interested, or do you think this might cause AB to have second thoughts about the deal?
