Posted Monday April 21, 2008, About: Vikings, Chiefs working on deal
If the Vikings could swing it, I'd like to see them give up their first and both third round picks this year and a future first or second round pick. For example, if they make the playoffs the Chiefs get their first round pick next year, but if the Vikes miss out on the postseason than they keep the first round pick and give their second round pick away. KC probably want 5 draft picks, but maybe 4 and some $$$ could fly with the Chiefs; the Vikings were $30 million under the cap last year.
Posted Tuesday April 01, 2008, About: McBride interested in Olympic spot
I believe that it would be a great decision because he can help the team settle into big time international competition (Olympics aren't big for soccer, but for the US they are) and when he steps on the pitch he could help by being a coach on the field. And he could still place a header in the net, so he'll be key on set pieces. I say give him a spot.

Flip is actually making more in the pros than he could coaching in the college ranks. This is really stupid stuff for the Pioneer Press to print. In fact it's an insult to both Flip and Tubby (that could be the title of a hit sitcom series), Tubby has earned a lot of respect this year for taking a slightly above average (talent wise) team from 9 to 20 wins (thank you neilcap) and deserves at least 4 to 5 years to prove what he can do (if we can keep him around the next 20 is okay by me). And Flip has produced another team that will challenge for an NBA title, and going to coach his alma-mater now would be completely unwise.
Posted Saturday March 29, 2008, About: U.S, Argentina schedule friendly
I'm going to keep in line with everyone else and say that this is good for the US. I'm excited for more friendlies against top teams (England, Spain, Argentina, hell ya) and I feel that no matter what the rankings head-to-head match-ups are the only way to get a real #1. Thanks to Arsenal69 for letting us know some of the other teams ahead of the US. I could see some of the Europe teams and Brazil and Argentina being ahead of the US, but Paraguay, Colombia (which might stop playing international competitions if their political and drug issues aren't resolved, but that's another topic), Cameroon, and Bulgaria?! Did Bulgaria make it to Euro '08? No, neither did Norway or Scotland. Did Cameroon win the Afican Cup of Nations? No, Egypt did (second straight). But that just more proof that FIFA can't do rankings worth a d*mn.
Posted Saturday March 29, 2008, About: Journal: Best MLB manager is...
Hey, I'm also a Twins fan and I like how WSJ plays the sporting game a little more now, but many people have brought up great ideas and opinions. I like Gardy and he has done some great things with average talent through the years (Dougie Mint, Punto, Rivas, Bartlett, etc.), but he has yet to get over the top and win the World Series. I don't like the Yankees but I have to give it up for Joe Torre for managing those millionaire-egos and use the talent the Yankees bought him. Plenty of managers have wasted talent like that by not continually winning the World Series (Bobby Cox?).
Posted Friday March 28, 2008, About: Beasley comeback on fast track
I think those comments about EJ are on target. It's amazing how quickly this went from talking about Beasley to hatin' on EJ to talking about the best US line-up available and what we call our national team. But now I'm digressing.
I like the idea of Beasley coming back this year, but he has more to worry about than just Rangers. He has the national team and the rest of his career. So everyone's comments on that is right on. About EJ, I honestly believe that he is constantly being compared to the players before him. Clint Mathis had a huge WC in Japan/South Korea and really helped the US on the grand stage. But I honestly felt that EJ wasn't going to help nearly enough for the US to do anything in Germany. I'm not a fan of EJ but I think we should give him his time in England before we all make a definate decision.
