Posted Thursday October 15, 2009, About: Gonchar okay with Pens contract delay
Those four players aren't going anywhere. No one on the team is ready to replace Gonch at his caliber of play, but it's probably going to have to happen anyway. Compare the modern financial NHL situation concerning players' salaries with that of the NFL because they've had a salary cap for a while now: teams who overpay veterans simply don't win. The average NHL roster is significantly younger than it was before the lockout, and it's going to stay that way because younger players cost less.

Are you freaking kidding me? Rogers provided a great spark that Holden simply didn't have. That doesn't mean Holden sucks; he's just a young guy still. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't.

Pure speculation? This isn't even a rumor.
Posted Thursday October 08, 2009, About: Baltimore trying to lure D.C. United
Didn't DCU want to build a stadium on what is currently an RFK parking lot, paving the way to demolish RFK once it was done? What was the problem with that? Did it make too much sense for politicians to approve?
Posted Tuesday September 29, 2009, About: Tressel: Big Ten used 'poor judgment'
Biased fan alert!

I also have to give credit to the honest Michigan fans posting here, too. The suspension is unnecessary. Let it be known that I hate OSU and the entire Big 11, but I have a ton of respect for Tressel. He schedules good games -- the home and homes with Texas and USC were played in 4 of the last 5 seasons, with a game against a surprisingly poor Washington team sandwiched in between -- and is a great coach that wins a lot of games, including one national title. [sarcasm] But everyone knows he's just a dirty cheater that deserves an achievement award for flying under the national radar for cheating so well. [/sarcasm]

Buy low. Finding value is important, especially in a down economy. He could be a steal if it goes well.
Posted Friday August 28, 2009, About: Donovan leaving Galaxy for Europe?
I really think this is a possibility too. They're starting to put it all together for the stretch run. Houston, Chicago, and Columbus have been pretty hot, too. It should be fun. I'd like to see LD get a ring and go out of the MLS with a bang.

Hijacking the thread on Post #2. Good job.
Posted Thursday August 20, 2009, About: MLS in running to buy USL
They'd still never do it. Owners paid huge "franchise fees" to MLS, and they'd never accept the possibility of not being in MLS. Done and done.

Is this really news or a good rumor? News flash: guy still plays sport.
Posted Tuesday July 28, 2009, About: Dutch club interested in Adu loan
Some of you guys are ripping Freddy like he wants to bounce around. He's not trashing Benfica. If they're not going to play him then he needs to play somewhere. Young guys get loaned out for that specific purpose all the time.

If Fox Soccer broadcasts it then I'll be watching. :)
Posted Tuesday July 21, 2009, About: Telemundo only to air U.S.-Mexico
They did move the game to 3pm local time -- on a Wednesday, no less -- in Mexico City, so I think that's 2pm Eastern USA.

I'm sure NBC will force Telemundo to get this game on another American network.
Posted Wednesday July 08, 2009, About: Euro clubs eyeing U.S. free agent
Netherlands and Scandinavia sounds about right. He wasn't really cutting it for a Hansa Rostock, a 2. Bundesliga team, but he's still young enough to get a good chance. Playing time is important for him right now if he wants to continue to improve, which is why a move to a 2nd-tier UEFA league such as the Netherlands would be good.
Posted Tuesday July 07, 2009, About: Real Madrid moving on Onyewu?
I've already thought about it.
Posted Monday July 06, 2009, About: Real Madrid moving on Onyewu?
I was only pointing out that Gooch has a European passport, which means that he won't count as a non-EU player on anyone's roster. Of course everyone knows that he's an American.

The Dutch league isn't a big enough step up for Gooch. He's going to want to go to a club in one of the top 5 leagues -- England, Spain, Italy, Germany, or France. He'll also probably want a club that's going into the Champions League or at least the Europa League. He's on a free now, so he definitely has the chance to work the market.

Gooch has a Belgian passport after living there for 5 years while playing with Standard.
Posted Monday July 06, 2009, About: Real Madrid moving on Onyewu?
I'd like to be optimistic that he'd get playing time at Madrid, but it's kind of hard to really believe it. If it happens and works out, though, it would be amazing for American fans. That much is certain. If it's true and happens then I'm happy for him, but I think playing time is more important than who specifically he signs with. England is a more physical league, and I think he would thrive in the middle there because it's really tough to push him around. Plus, in the EPL we can get him on TV more often here in the States. :^)
Posted Tuesday June 30, 2009, About: French club interested in U.S.' Clark
They finished just out of Europa League qualifying in Ligue 1, and they lost the French Cup final to a Ligue 2 club. So to answer your question, no, they're not playing and European football next year. They defend well, but lack a scoring touch. Maybe they should be looking at Davies instead. :^P

Congratulations, Michigan. You went from the classiest coach in college football to the sleaziest. Nice move.
Posted Monday April 06, 2009, About: Toronto crowd throws beer at Carey
It's a bunch of idiots in Toronto who think "Hey, we've got a soccer team! Now we can act like hooligans and it'll be funny and cool." The NHL cracked down on this type of fan BS years ago, and now those fans are just trying to find new outlets. One incident isn't a big deal. The streamers were funny, but if that's all it was then it's just good fun that delays the game a little ??? no big deal. Sportsmanship and fan participation are great, and that's the stuff the MLS offices want to see. The pattern of potentially dangerous behavior is certainly not what they want to see.
