OK - just to set the record straight - Varitek is not a product of the Sox farm system. He was aquired in a trade along with Derek Lowe from Seattle. For a washed up pitcher. Heathcliff Slocum? not positive... One of the best moves Dan Douquette ever made. Sometimes less experienced players give the appearance of having been "developed" when they are actually attributable to a smart GM, not the farm system.
