Posted Friday December 21, 2007, About: Payton wants to join Celtics
Gary Payton can help the Celtics as a second point guard and as a defensive stopper off the bench. Any points that he contributes would be gravy.

The Celtics still have a weakness and that is their depth.
Posted Saturday December 15, 2007, About: What ex-Yankees coach told Mitchell
For all of his denials, I don't think that Roger Clemens is going to sue anyone. Not only do you have this testimony, you also have the miraculous resurrection of his career when it should have been in decline. If he does file a lawsuit, then he could be placed under oath in a deposition session. Then he could be prosecuted for perjury like Barry Bonds if he is caught lying when another shoe drops. If Roger used PEDs (and I think he did), there will be others who know about it who could still come forward and talk.
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: Source: Mitchell report critical of Selig
Tanner, while I understand your points and agree with some of them, the MLB Players Union tipped off players about scheduled "random" drug tests. Yes, they have a responsibility to protect all of their members, but that also includes those players who didn't use performancing drugs, too. Don't you think that they had a right to fair competition for both employment opportunities and in the competition between teams? I believe that the while the union's responsibilities may differ from the Commissioner's and management's, they also have a responsibility to protect the integrity of the game---in order to protect the rights and opportunities of their members who competed honestly.
Posted Wednesday December 12, 2007, About: Warriors GM wary of Knicks job
I agree that he is much better off building his reputation as a GM with a good organization at Golden State. His career as a GM is young and he will get many opportunities later.

The Knicks organization is a disaster and needs to be totally cleaned up. Whoever get the job would have to have total authority to do so and I don't see Dolan giving that to Chris Mullin or to most would-be GMs.
Posted Wednesday December 12, 2007, About: Sources: 50 players in Mitchell Report
I agree that this report probably only scratches the surface. Look at the sources---one or two people cooperating with law enforcement investigations, a few positive drug tests, a few people busted when pharmacies were raided by the feds where the records showed that performance-enhancing drugs were mailed to them. After that, it is basically all rumor and innuendo...even if the rumor and innuendo is true.

The rest are stonewalling. MLB won't get serious about this unless the sponsors who are the source of their money start pressuring them...and they won't do so unless the fans demand it.

I predict that there will be enough to permanently stain some reputations and the sport as a whole, but not enough to get a handle on this so they can clean it up. Most of the bad guys are going to get away with it.
Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, About: Vick still has future in NFL
Apparently the NFL is incapable of finding players who have both talent and character.
Posted Tuesday December 11, 2007, About: What Nets want in Kidd trade
The Lakers would be fools to trade Andrew Bynum. L.A. should offer New Jersey Lamar Odom and one of their point guards (and maybe a draft choice).
Posted Saturday November 17, 2007, About: Jordan's divorce amazes Barkley
She was with him all of those years and raised his kids. It isn't like she is some goldigger who was here today, got married and bailed out a year or two later demanding half the guy's money.

She deserves the money and MJ can afford it. It's not like he is getting messed over by her.
Posted Saturday November 17, 2007, About: Officials accuse Jeter of tax fraud
I'm not sure that this is a real story yet. If the guy lives in Florida during the off season, then that is his home. Just because he works in New York doesn't mean that he has to pay taxes there. A lot of people work in New York and live in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Deleware, Massachusetts, etc.

A decent lawyer can probably beat this.
Posted Saturday November 17, 2007, About: Ex-commish claims 'massive cheating'
This former Commissioner's comment was just in nick of time, but the fact that its has been made by a former Commissioner is pretty damming for MLB. If the former Commissioner knew, then the present Commissioner had to know...and the union...and the owners.
Posted Wednesday November 14, 2007, About: Gibbs defends decision making
The poster who mentioned the GM hit the nail right on the head. The first time around, Joe Gibbs had a genius for a GM named Bobby Beathard who specialized in finding talented players with late round draft picks...CB Darryl Green (2nd round), DE Charles Mann (6th round), OL Russ Grimm (3rd round), DE Dexter Manley, OL Joe Jacoby, MLB Neil Okolwitz, LB Mel Kaufman, TE Clint Didier, etc. When Joe Gibbs came to the Redskins the first time, former coach George Allen had traded away almost all of their 1st round draft choices. The only time that they had a 1st round draft choice, they drafted Art Monk, who should be in the Hall of Fame.

That's the biggest difference between Joe Gibbs the first and second time around. He had the best evaluator of talent in the NFL.
Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, About: McNabb might snub Bears
McNabb would be far superior to anything that the Bears currently have, but that's not saying much because a corpse would be better than the current crop of Bears QBs.

Since the Bears have no offensive line and no decent running backs, he would be better off staying with the Eagles.
Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, About: Kobe, Buss must reconcile
Jerry Buss doesn't need to do anything...it's his team. Kobe shut up and started playing because he saw that his spoiled brat act wasn't going down well with the fans (not to mention Phil Jackson and his teammates).

I seriously doubt that this will last.
Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, About: Union, Boras begin talks of collusion
There is a difference between collusion and common sense. Boras and the Players Association are full of themselves (and something else).
Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, About: Angels make A-Rod last resort
Good. I'm am glad that the brain trust of the Angels also has some common sense. A-Rod's salary demands are insane. That money will be far better spent on several players and not just one.
Posted Saturday November 10, 2007, About: NCAA's difficult case against Bush
Lloyd Lake is slime. His M.O. is the same as Don King's was with boxers..."Let me be your friend (to the stepfather) and help me get your stepson to sign a contract for me to represent him later after he graduates. Meanwhile, accept my 'gifts' (which turn out not to be gifts at all)...Now (after Reggie didn't sign with him because the stepfather couldn't deliver) you owe me money for all that I did for you and if you don't pay off, I'll tell all and ruin things for your stepson and his school." There is a very good possibility that Reggie didn't know, given this guy's M.O. This guy is pure slime. There is no proof that the school knew anything about this. USC constantly warns its athletes about people like this and has warned off wannabe agents (by threatening lawsuits against them for interfering with the contractual relationship between the school and its scholarship athlete) who have tried this kind of stunt before if they found out about it. I do not believe that USC knew anything about this or that they were in a position where they should have known.
Posted Saturday November 10, 2007, About: Kobe flip-flops on Bynum
The Lakers are right not to trade Bynum. When you add what the Lakers might get for Kobe in a trade to what they have without Kobe, they would have a pretty decent team.

I think that Kobe realizes that his bluff has been called, the Lakers don't have to trade him right now and that there is life for the Lakers after him. I don't think that he liked being booed by fans on the Lakers' home court. That is why he is semi-behaving now, but don't worry---it won't last.
Posted Thursday November 08, 2007, About: Carroll takes blame for USC slide
He's right. The offensive coordinator has done an absolutely lousy job of play-calling this year and it was stupid to try to play John David Booty with a broken finger on his throwing hand against Stanford. I've been saying this all year.

I'll give him one thing...at least he is taking the reponsibility and not blaming someone else.

Now the real question is what is he going to do about it in the future? He has to find a decent offensive coordinator or all of that talent that the Tojans have on the offensive side of the ball will continue to be wasted.
Posted Thursday November 08, 2007, About: Kobe buying Jordan's house?
Try as he might, Kobe Bryant will NEVER be Michael Jordan. That's his problem...if only he realized that being Kobe Bryant is good enough, he might have actually turned out to be a good team player, as well as a superstar.
Posted Monday November 05, 2007, About: Kobe rumors upset Pistons' Dumars
Doesn't anyone realize that while Kobe pretends that he is concentrating on basketball, his agent is doing the dirty work and floating all of these distracting rumors?
Posted Sunday November 04, 2007, About: Rasheed: LeBron conspiracy?
Stuff like this deserves a fine by the Commissioner. It's one thing for the media and us fans to criticize the league, but when a player calls the integrity of the league (its referees) into question, it only validates what the fans think about the league and its referees. Any professional sports league has to step on this stuff.

Rasheed Wallace is from another planet if he actually believes what he is saying. We all saw him get kicked out of the final game in the series against Cleveland before the game was decided and when his team needed him most. Rasheed's problem is that he could never control his temper. Don't you think that other players know that the way to beat the Pistons is to provoke Rasheed, get him stewing and get him off his game (even before he gets thrown out)? That's an old pro trick. If you get inside your opponent's head, you've already won the battle and it works against Rasheed every time! This is just his ego and stupidity talking and once again, he is fighting another battle that he cannot win. He still can't let it go!
