It's not the players that have the problems with the uniforms while playing the game; it's the coaches that have the problems as they're watching film to prepare for Boise State--because the cameras are looking down at the field from the stands. It's the coaches that have complained about Boise State's all-blue uniforms, not the players.

I wonder if "Adement" was in the original CBS Sports article or if that was a "correction" that FN thought was needed.
Posted Monday November 26, 2012, About: Win or lose, Boise State a lock for Las Vegas?
No, if Boise State wins this weekend and moves up to 16 in the BCS rankings (and if Kent State loses on Friday, and Northern Illinois does not jump Boise in the BCS rankings), then it's possible that Boise would go to the Orange Bowl. However, while all of that is possible, it's not likely to happen. Thus, Las Vegas will take Boise unless Boise goes to the Orange Bowl.

It wasn't just Kellen Moore carrying Boise State. Look at what Doug Martin has been doing as Tampa Bay's first-round draft choice.

Boise State is redshirting Nick Patti this year, and I'm betting he will start next year as a redshirt freshman over Joe Southwick in Southwick's senior year. It would be a blow to Southwick to be benched next year behind Patti, but Patti looks a lot like the Second Coming of Kellen Moore:

Posted Saturday March 10, 2012, About: Peyton rejects Ryan's dysfunctional Jets
While it is a double negative, the phrase the writer used is appropriate for the rhetorical effect he was going for. He could have eliminated the double negative by stating that Rex Ryan's Jets are "a circus that isn't the greatest show on Earth; in fact, they aren't even the greatest show in New York." That sentence might have been more grammatically correct, but it doesn't carry the same rhetorical effect as "a circus that not only isn't the greatest show on Earth, it's not even the greatest show in New York."

Actually, there is another expansion of the stadium being planned. It's a 100 million dollar expansion, but requires corporate funding and stadium naming fees. In the meantime, the state of Idaho is paying for an additional 3,300 seats (which is no big deal).

Besides the recruiting violations on the tennis team, one of the reasons Gene Bleymaier was replaced as athletics director was because Boise State needed someone who could bring in the corporate dollars for the 100 million-dollar expansion.

Well, I earned my BA and MA from Boise State, and I've been following this closely. The most likely reason Boise State won't join the Big East early is because they would then owe the Mountain West a lot of money as an exit fee. I forgot the actual number but it was at least one million dollars if not two million--and the Idaho board of education (and State Legislature) won't approve paying that exit fee. Thus, Kustra couches his response as if he's following some sort of code of ethics.

Of course, ethically, Boise State SHOULD honor their contract with the Mountain West--or, if they don't, they should pay the huge exit fee for leaving early. I don't like that Kustra won't just be upfront and say, "The State of Idaho can't afford the exit fee, so we will be waiting another year to join the Big East."

The Dodgers started in Brooklyn in 1883 and did not exist in Baltimore or anywhere else before then.

The Yankees sort of started in Baltimore, but not really. The Baltimore team of 1901 and 1902 went out of business, and the rights to having that franchise, but not that team, were bought by the Yankee ownership. They didn't buy the Baltimore team from the previous owners in Baltimore, they paid the league for the rights to have a franchise to replace the one that went out of business in Baltimore.

My favorite old team is the Cleveland Rams, who left Cleveland for Los Angeles because the Browns started playing in the old All-American Football Conference and the Rams couldn't compete with the Browns for fans.

Alabama gave San Jose State a million--so why should Boise be getting less? If anything, Boise deserves more than a weak program like San Jose State. Check out how much Nebraska pays top-line OOC opponents and you'll see that Boise State's request was not out of line.
Posted Thursday September 16, 2010, About: Boise State wanted $1 mil to play at Nebraska
Really? My education at Boise State is just slightly better than a community college? I have a PhD in Modern and Postmodern American literature, have published a book on the topic, have presented numerous papers in my field, and have a teaching position at a university. Wow! I was able to accomplish all that with an education that is nearly the same as a community college education. Imagine that!

Oh, and I doubt Boise State's AD made that claim about crumbling facilities--or, if he did, it was just a fund-raising scheme. The stadium has undergone a major expansion within the last ten years, there are plans for a further expansion of the stadium (though not yet funded), and the athletic facilities are all fairly new. In fact, they are the top athletic facilities in the WAC.

Are they equal to Nebraska's or Ohio State's (et cetera)? No, of course not, but the football program is bringing in a lot of money to the university, and all of the school's facilities are benefiting from the success of the football team.

Boise State was starting to get successful before Dan Hawkins. In the last 11 seasons, going back to 1999, the Broncos have one their conference outright eight times, they finished tied for first once, and the other two seasons they finished second.

Dirk Koetter was the coach in 1999 and 2000 before leaving for Arizona State (where he bombed). Hawkins was Koetter's offensive coordinator and moved up to head coach when Koetter left.

Hawkins then brought Petersen over from Oregon to be his offensive coordinator, and Peterson took over when Hawkins bolted for Colorado (where he's bombing). I don't deny that Petersen is a very good coach, but Bleymaier has been the constant factor as Boise State has been slowly climbing up the ranks.
Posted Sunday August 22, 2010, About: Who voted Boise State No. 1?
No, Boise's Bronco Stadium doesn't even seat 45,000. It only seats about 32,000 to 35,000. However, it only had about 20,000 seats when I went to school there, so it is definitely growing. When I return to Boise now, I look at the stadium and it looks huge in contrast to how I remember it, but I used to drive by LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge when I lived in Louisiana, and Bronco Stadium isn't up to that size by a long shot.

So, yeah, big-name schools do not want to play at Bronco Stadium for two reasons: 1.) They cannot get the same amount of money they can get when they play a school with a larger stadium, and 2.) Bronco Stadium is a difficult place for a visiting team to play. They will have a much better chance of beating Boise State if they don't play at Bronco Stadium.

On the other hand, if Boise travels to a big-name school with a large stadium, they now expect to get paid at a level similar to when other top ten teams play at those stadiums. Boise might well lose at those stadiums, so if they are going to bring in their top ten ranking for another team to take a shot at, they want to be paid like they're a top ten school (which, of course, they have been).

Oregon and Oregon State have made good arrangements with Boise State, but other big-name schools (like Nebraska) want to get the boost in their rankings by beating Boise State (beating Boise would help a school's BCS rankings), but they don't want to pay Boise State at a level equal to what they would pay a school like Notre Dame (which would not currently help a school's BCS rankings).
Posted Sunday August 22, 2010, About: Who voted Boise State No. 1?
Well, I don't know if we would own their league if we had better access to five-star recruits, but we would certainly be able to compete against them. Boise State has had the success we've had because of Gene Bleymaier, who has created an athletic department that allows Boise State to succeed with the school's limited resources.

It's also great that we finally have a coach who isn't looking at Boise State as a steppingstone to a larger school. Chris Petersen seems content to stay in Boise for the long haul, which is a nice change over the previous coaches who had some winning teams and then left to fail at larger schools.

And why did the fail? Because Gene Bleymaier isn't at the larger schools.
Posted Sunday August 22, 2010, About: Who voted Boise State No. 1?
If Boise State was in the SEC or Big-12 then they would be able to recruit even better players than they currently can get, so your argument is basically, "Let's keep them at their current recruiting limitations but have them compete in a conference that has more recruiting clout." In that case, you are absolutely right, we would not be able to go undefeated.

On the other hand, let's see Florida or Oklahoma get limited to only being able to attract three-star high school players (with perhaps one or two four-star players thrown into the mix each year) and then see how well Florida and Oklahoma compete in their respective conferences.

Well, I have a PhD in Modern and Postmodern literature, and I'm a professor who regularly teaches composition courses as well, and I can honestly say that it didn't mean anything. I'm not even sure that we can blame translation software for that messed up message.

On another note, I received by BA and MA degrees from Boise State!

It's nerve wracking being ranked this high at the beginning of the season. I think I would rather be ranked 10th and have a chance to move up the ladder as the season progresses. Being ranked near the top means that the likely movement will be downward as the season progresses.

It's much safer at the to be halfway up the ladder than to be balancing precariously at the top. I'm ready for the season to be over so we can just move into a BCS bowl.
