Dooley was in over his head. He is the long shot they were left with after Kiffin spurned them for USC. I wish this kid well, but college football programs only get so many scholarships each year and good players get left off the list as a result.
Posted Monday March 03, 2014, About: Pujols irked by Trout rivalry question
I was under the impression he chose the Angels because the Cards would not offer him ten years. I must admit though if he simply chose the extra money he is getting then he will regret living in California. Last time I checked taxes, cost of living, and many other things are more expensive in California thn Missouri.
Posted Sunday March 02, 2014, About: Will Patriots re-sign or trade Ryan Mallett?
It tends to work out that way far less often (Aaron Rodgers). It is just a hyped up story so New England can get a high value pick for him, the same way they did with Matt Cassell years ago.

They should keep him unless they really need the extra cap room to resign some of their better players.
Posted Saturday March 01, 2014, About: Jonathan Kraft: Wes Welker could have remained Patriot
I'll give a non-sports example. A few years back the company I work for negotiated a new labor deal with the union at one of our plants. We went about making sure that they would be given a raise because we had enjoyed some pretty good years. We tried to build it in as incentives (something that could be lost if unsafe behaviors occur, too many late occurrences, or a failed customer audit). If a member qualified for all three it would have been about a 3.6% increase for each year of the 5 year contract we proposed with them. The union came back and agreed to what was a 1.5% salary increase per year that is not tied to any incentives. They wanted guarantees and not something that was at risk.

I believe the Pats did offer more, but I bet it was tied to incentives and not guaranteed money like he got from the Broncos. That or it was only one year guaranteed on a multiyear deal and he did not like the risk with it.
Either way the Pats and Welker both took a gamble and it ended with them parting ways. That is the business of football. Would we even still be talking about this if Hernandez and Gronk had both been able to play the entire season for New England? I still think if they had been there New England would have been in the Super Bowl.
Posted Monday September 05, 2011, About: Richt facing must-win games already?
correction:

I still doubt it will be enough to save him by the end of the season though. Gone are the days of coaches who stay this long with one school.

(should have proofread it before posting, Sorry all)

You are exactly right. Just like the Tuberville and Auburn incident. Good coach who is overshadowed because he has not won it all as others in the SEC have and quickly is overshadowed by some of the newer coaches in the SEC. I still remember how he skated by last time there was talk of getting rid of him when everyone said he cannot beat LSU.
Posted Monday September 05, 2011, About: Pickens blames Texas for Big 12 chaos
Classy comment as usualy from the famous billionaire, but he is right. Texas put it all together on the fly last year and I think most people knew this was only a band-aid for the Big 12. Now we really will see how all the cards fall.

He has always seemed to scrape by in instances like these and I would expect an upset this weekend as a result. I still doub **** will be enough to save him by the end of the season though. Gone are the days of coaches who stay this long with one school.
Posted Monday September 05, 2011, About: Why Ravens coaches love Ricky Williams
Just a complete change of character from his younger years. I hope Ricky keeps producing and stays healthy enough to be the calming influence that so many younger "diva" backs need these days. Never thought I would say those words in a blurb about Ricky but people really can change.
Posted Monday September 05, 2011, About: Chiefs may be forced to go with Palko
I was at the game and this is completely a bonehead move by Haley. He had Cassel in the game well into the 3rd quarter even though Green Bay had their starters out after the first possession. I know Haley probably wanted to spark a stagnant offense but still a stupid decision. And he didn't make any extra friends in a game where he went for a fake punt, an onside kick, and several fourth down conversions in a meaningless game.
