He had plenty of chemistry with AO. They were BFFs. I've watched Semin every year of his career and he has the talent to score 50. Unfortunately he was good for two or three mindless hooks or holds every game, never made an effort to learn English despite working in America for close to ten years thereby ducking the North American media whenever he did something stupid - like a mindless hook or hold, played occasional defense and hated when Bruce and then Dale forced a defense-first system on him. Whatever people outside of DC want to believe, Ovie is a standup guy who has done everything the team and the league has asked of him. In contrast, you always got the sense that hockey is just a job to Semin. Detroit can have him.
Yeah, but you can't trade the cream of the farm system if you don't think you can sign him to a deal. If he and the Dodgers are intent on doing a deal after the season the Phillies will have a hard time finding a trade partner.
I hope you're wrong but the firing of Bruce was significant in that GMGM was admitting that something was wrong with this group of guys. Semin and Hunter are gone but we have two first round picks. With Nicky, Laich, Carlson, Alzner, Holtby, Chimera, Marcus and a few others Ovi has a ton of talent surrounding him. No reason to break this team up yet.
Welcome to Philly Ilya. Get used to being treated this way. This is the city that booed their opening day starter three innings into the Phillies title defense a few years ago. They will never change.
His decision to bench Halpern and Aucoin in the 3rd period against Winnipeg on Friday night was inexcusable. The Caps were tired from playing Philly the night before and had no legs for the 2nd half of the game against the Jets. That is NOT the time to shorten your bench and discipline your 4th line. Just awful coaching.
I hadn't heard that before but the infighting has begun. Ted is going to have to wade into this and clean it up. Its not like he can fall back on the Wiz to get a title.
As a Caps fan I'll say this. There are several problems. Bruce needed to go after last year's failure in the playoffs. He's a great guy but the team went as far as it was going to go with him at the helm. That said, I've yet to be impressed with Dale Hunter. The team is so boring its painful to watch.
The Alex's need to broken up. Semin doesn't care and Ovie seems to be indifferent right now. Dealing Semin might get Ovie's attention and in return get some heart and soul guys back on the team. Letting Matt Bradley go was a HUGE mistake by McPhee. Another mistake by McPhee was signing Vokoun. Why was he signed when you have Neuvirth and Holtby ready to go this year? Just because he's cheap is not an excuse to mess up the confidence of your young goaltenders.
Also, you have the injuries. Green is brittle and has been badly missed. Backstrom took a cheap shot and hasn't been back since and his loss has been glaring.
I don't know what Ted and George do going forward but after so much excitement the team has taken a dramatic step backwards this season.
I love how a Redskins fan is making fun of Baltimore. The Ravens drew 25,000 fans to their fan fest on Saturday. There will be 25,000 empty seats in FedEx for every game except the opener and thats only because of the 9/11 ceremonies. When was the last time the Skins even sniffed the playoffs? The Ravens have been within inches of two of the last three Super Bowls. The Redskins?........can't wait for that John Beck to Donte Stallworth connection to blow up the league away every Sunday. You guys BADLY overpaid for three of our castoffs in free agency and any city that elects Marion Berry to office several times can't say anything about anyone's town.. Hilarious.
So the tag on the front page of cnnsi.com that took me to this T&R link was "San Jose Still Struggling". 7-0-1 is struggling huh? An article about the team not making anymore deals is headlined with "Struggling". Anyone else notice a severe drop off in SI's hockey coverage since Allan Muir left?
You guys are idiots. Two cancelled seasons in ten years? Not even Bud Selig is that stupid.
Unsincerely,
A season ticket holder seriously considering not renewing his tickets and spending his money on entertainers who actually like to work.
