Damaris Lewis

Seriously, how is he not a team leader? He has already started developing his relationships with his receivers, working with his backups, stamping down the playbook and making a strong presence in the community. I would say he's doing alright.
Street sweeper baby, cocked ready to let it go
Shimmy shimmy cocoa what? Listen to it pound
Light it up and take a puff, pass it to me now

Wow Phil, just wow. Way to make everyone else look like rocket surgeons.
Not sure whey everyone is so hard on Cutler for reaching out to Plax?!? So what if he did, I think it's great to have a quarterback that has a good enough report with other players around the league. It's not as if he was telling him to stop by Halas Hall for a visit so they could work out in front of the coaches. All it says is he reached out to him - good!
jugheadwill | 08/26/08, 11:19 AM
Agreed Jugheadwill - oh wait... you're an idiot! Over the past two years they have re-signed not only Brian Urlacher ALONG WITH Lance Briggs, Tommie Harris, Devin Hester, Robbie Gould, Alex Brown, Rashied Davis, Nathan Vasher, Peanut Tillman among others. These guys are pretty good players - some considered by the league as among the best at their positions. And it's Br"i"an Urlacher - yup, there's an "i" there, crazy!
---------------
Grossedout - gotta change your picture, I keep seeing it on different post and it is giving me the **** chills! Agreed about Contreras, love him but don't think we will see him again. Poreda can pitch, he throws mid 90's and has had average 1.3 K's an inning. The only question is maturity. It may take some games, but this kid should be a solid contributor.
---------------------
Side Note: Went to the Bears@Redskins game in 2005, where Orton started and we held up a sign that read "Orton for President 2008". I'd still vote for him, although the beard does give me that skeezy type feeling!
- The Chicago Bears have three okay BACKUP QB's on their roster.
- Grossman is wild and has crap for pocket presence but a strong arm.
- Orton is only good enough for about 150 yards a game, 1TD and 1INT
- Caleb Hanie may be our best bet but he is a rookie and will not win out because of that reason and the salary being paid to Grossman (see previous monetary commitment to Ced Ben)
- The Bears didn't draft a QB this past year, because there were not that were that good and why waste time with bad QB. They need a Veteran when one comes available.
- There are a lot of bad things with our offense, but the worst is Ron Turner, sack his ***!
- Our OL has aged and hit its prime and will give up 4+ sacks a game and a ton of hurries
- I like the RB tandem and WR's we have Forte/KJones > Benson/AP2. Hester/Booker/Davis/Lloyd/Haas/Bennet are better than Moose and Berrian. Berrian dropped too many big passes and if speed is all you are looking at how about Hester, Bradley and Davis? 2 of the 3 are faster than Bernard
All that being said, I think our season will look a little more like two years ago. Our D will return, a little closer to form and our offense will continue to struggle until our OL gets a lot younger and Ron Turner see's the pink slip. Still looking forward to the upcoming season. Go Bears!
dismilmaya | 08/04/08, 11:36 AM
I was thinking the same thing. It is strange how as soon as they begin to implement the testing, he gets this injury. Then he loses weight on top of it. Trophy wife or not, dude is doping!!!
I still think that our OL will be better this year with Williams in at LG. Our RBs (Forte and KJones) are better than last year (CedBen and AP2) and our Receivers are better (Hester>Berrian) (Booker>Moose) and then you throw Davis who has boosted his speed and strength, Earl Bennett, Mike Haas, Lloyd, Riddeau and that Monk kid. I think we will be okay this year. We were only 7-9 last year with a banged up D. Our Offense, IMO, is better and our D is healthy.
Bottom Line: Don't think we will win the SB, but I think we will be better than expected. Although, on paper, Minnesota is looking very good.
"I think that this dilemma is a result of Jerry Angelo's failures. Sure, he had the foresight to draft a game-changing special teams player in the 2nd round, but this is the ONLY pick in recent years that has amounted to anything. Reality is that if he knew how to draft and play the free agent market, the Bears team wouldn't be as dependent on Hester." --- from your original post!
Your original post (above) said nothing about Angelo being a bust in the first round. All I am stating is that they have found some real gems in the later rounds and besides Harris, Greg Olsen was a first round pick. However, that is only two out of - what - seven first rounders that have been worth a ****. Agreed, not very good. And that is IF Olsen lives up to his potential.
Even a couple years ago they traded out of the first round and picked up Daniel Manning (?) from Abilene Christian with their first pick. At that time I thought he was a dynamic return guy but then they picked Hester in the same draft. That draft made me drink very heavily, After everything panned out, the Manning pick was an obvious way for the team to save money by not getting a high profile player and having to pay him first round money. I bet he **** his pants when they called his name, if he was even watching the draft at that point.
To the rest of you haters that say the Bears aren't a good team. Wait and see. We were only 7-9 last year with a banged up defense. Our defense is healthy and IMO our offense is better (insert stupid jokes here). Two years removed from the superbowl, when our D was healthy. Just wait and see. Ride that purple jock train if you want... but when playoffs come and the purple people eaters are at home nursing their booboos and we have home field advantage, then man up and admit you are all haters.
I agree Jerry has had some doozies (see Cedric Benson) but give some credit to Peanut Tillman, Nathan Vasher, Lance Briggs, Bernard (sell-out) Berrian, Greg Olsen, Mark Anderson and what's that guys name.. oh yeah, TOMMIE HARRIS. Olsen and Anderson are still young but they are coming along nicely.
Seriously... I think that Urlacher falls under that category. Briggs falls under that category. But Hester who, as many have said over and over, is being paid near league minimum and has spent his first two seasons becoming one of the most electrifying and dangerous return mans in league history. On top of that, they have said over and over that they want to get the ball into his hands as much as possible. He can fly and he can catch, he is being groomed to be the epicenter of our offensive air attack. It doesn't matter if they throw to him or not, teams will make sure to stick a guy or two on him every play because of his big-play ability. Why doesn't he deserve a pay raise. Think of it as the real world, he has been given a promotion without a pay raise. They recognize that he is really good at what he does and put him into a position, he was not keen on playing in the first place. He did so and has caught some pretty decent balls there too as a 4WR last year. Now they do away with their top WR and make him the feature. How does that not constitute a pay raise? Would you still be willing to work for minimum raise if KFC promoted you to manager? Come on!
NYY25-13 - How do they need a lot of work. They are two years removed from the superbowl and now their defense is healthy. They have a better line, better RB tandem and IMO better core of receivers than last year. Not to mention one of the strongest TE combinations in the league. Our QB's are mediocre and are good backups, but that is the only area I think we need immediate improvement from and even they have been good-great at some point in their career. Get your head out of your own team's ***.
