you are very shortsighted here. first of all, the money they would stand to make during any such chase would be unreal. through merchandising, memorabilia, etc. think about how much money they would make from advertising. commercials, in stadium advertising, the prices they would be able to charge would be astronomical. if jeter does in fact threaten the record(which even as a die hard yankee fan, i dont think that he will), every news channel will be televising every jeter at bat.
second, the yankees would kill for there to be a new legendary story for the new stadium, "the house that jeter built".
what are you talking about? hasnt been himself? are you serious? welker posted career highs in yards and td's, led the nfl in receptions(the 4th most, all time), had the most yards per reception of any season with the pats, and had the longest td recpetion in the nfl. last season was the best season of welkers career.
your right, when whatever journalist asked him about the all time rushing record, he shoulda just said, "no way, i have zero shot at the record, under any circumstances....in fact, ive never really been that good a player".
he was asked a question, and he answered it in a rather modest way, imo.

you certainly have quite a bit to say about a team that's still in the playoff race, when your favorite team isnt......not too mention the fact that your favorite team was a preseason favorite to WIN the world series.....
how many of his home runs do you think he actually hit directly down the right field line, that wouldnt have gone over in other parks? the short porch in yankee stadium argument is SO overblown.
sam rice was 7th all time in hits when he retired....with a .322 career average.....furthermore, he only played two full seasons before he was 30, and he STILL ended up with just under 3000 hits, having his last 200 hit season at age 40.....
actually, no. lets say hypothetically he gets 170 more hits this year(which would be 187 for the season). that would put him at 3275 for his career, and 725 short of 4000. jeter would need to average a smidge over 181 hits per season for the next 4 seasons to reach 4000. at the end of the fourth season, he would be 42 years old(hes actually still 37 now).
dont get me wrong, i agree that it is unlikely. but, it really isnt far fetched at all. last season, over the last 96 games of the season(after he hit his 3000th), jeter hit .338. from august 1st, to the end of the season(when an older player technically SHOULD be wearing down, he hit .349.
romo probably IS better. give romo emmitt smith, irvin, novacek, johnston, and all world o-line, and a great defense, and you honestly think they dont win just as many super bowls?
then there was no point in your original comment. i said where would he go that would have more pieces in place to win. you replied with a couple teams and said that you werent saying they had more talent than the saints. the only way that comparison makes any sense, is to take brees of both teams and compare them.
wait a second, you think those teams have less talent than the saints, but with brees they would be better than the saints? isn that the same thing as saying they have more talent?
saints +drew brees<a team with less talent +drew brees?
but does he have a better chance to win elsewhere? what team could he go to, that is willing to pay more, AND has more pieces in place to win a super bowl?
i think drew brees is a GREAT qb.....having said that, i also had thought that maybe he was also he was a GREAT teammate and leader, the kind of guy who would take a little less money in order to build a better team under the cap. im not sure exactly how far apart the two sides are, but at some point, wouldnt you rather have a better chance of winning, than have the extra 2 million a year?
fantastic editing round here....

the funny thing is, whenever welker IS on the field, his buddy brady is gonna be looking for him.
he was asked a question, and he answered it in a rather modest way, imo.
the AL east point would factor in for his ERA more so than his win totals.....
