The British guy narrating the commercials got me sold. Oh the power of advertising. What are your thoughts on Sparty losing to Georgetown over the weekend? The Big Ten is so deep this year that losing a game one week should be nothing eye-opening. Georgetown has struggled this season, so that's what surprised me. Still a lot of season left, not including the conference tournament, to figure out where some of the top teams will fall in the NCAA Tourny.

Has anyone ever tasted New Castle Brown Ale? After watching the short documentary film about how a New Castle Super Bowl commercial was almost made that premiered during the Super Bowl commercials, oh, and after watching some of the older commercials that are really smart, I'd like to try a sip...maybe a few sips if I like it.
Posted Tuesday February 04, 2014, About: How many superbowls will Russell Wilson win
Agree. Wilson is a born leader, athletic, talented, and highly competeitive. He will continue to do well. He just isn't the same natural talent at QB that Peyton Manning or Tom Brady are. Wilson had some rough games down the stretch before the post-season, but his defense compensated for he and the offenses struggles. Super Bowl aside, Peyton is still the Broncos most valuable player and is the key element to their playoff run. I feel like I'm taking too much credit away from Wilson --which isn't my intent. But, I know the Broncos would not have been in the Super Bowl without Manning. I'm not sure I can say the same thing about Wilson and Seattle.

A game played in a dome, in my opinion, is the best playing conditions for a match-up between the two best teams in the league (like this years Super Bowl). Don't get me wrong, I still believe football was meant to be played outdoors...for the most part. But if you matched up two undefeated teams with similar statistics, each with great quarterbacks, playing in a blizzard would surely skew the outcome to some level.

As a spectator, I'd prefer a game between the two best teams played in great weather or under a roof. In those conditions, you get the best chance of seeing the best team come out victorious.

Yeah I'm an East Dawg. I get so used to just referring to myself as a "Dawg" fan because everyone in Georgia knows what you're talking about. GRin-n-bear-it, you're lucky Gators has been trademarked haha.

Haha just partly. I bleed red and black on game day, but I've been trained to be objective. I guess taking some journalism classes will do that to you. Appreciate the invite -- I enjoy a few cold ones after work. Gator alum means you're from the SEC fraternity, so you're like a brother (stepbrother maybe, but still a brother).

Well I should have used it. I forgot to mention earlier that I also left Matt Asiata on the bench. The Vikings could have won me a fantasy championship. I was left wondering how the heck I left almost 400 points on the bench. Then I started wondering HOW THE HECK DID THOSE GUYS ALMOST SCORE 400 POINTS!!

No, I actually go to school in my hometown of Augusta, GA. I saved a lot of money staying home, which allowed me to pocket a nice helping of money I've earned working part-time.

However...I did grow up a huge UGA fan. I love pulling for the Dawgs on gameday, but I consider myself a huge college sports fan in general. I would love to have a carreer that is based around covering college sports if the opportunity ever came up.

The school I attend is Division II and not nearly the sports spectacle that UGA is.

Oh and if you need Masters badges, don't call me. I want some just as bad as everyone else.

If I were a Mizzou fan, what would concern me the most about the longevity of the football program sustaining success in the SEC is in recruiting. Last year, Mizzou finished 35 in recruiting (according to a consensus rating by Athlon Sports). That ranking would have given them the 6th best recruiting class in their former home, the Big 12. Instead, they were ranked fourteenth in the SEC.

This year they have a class ranked in the low-20s to mid-30s; still in the lower half of the SEC. Recruiting tends to fluctuate and isn't always accurate. However, looking at how SEC programs have recruited in the last 5 - 10 years is indication of how vast the talent pool is, as a whole, for the conference.

Mizzou needs to continue to find a foothold in hot-beds such as Georgia and Florida if they want to continue to compete for appearances in the Georgia Dome. I understand why Pinkel, at first, wasn't very excited about a new border war with Arkansas. Creating that rivalry meant losing the trip to Texas every other year.

Arkansas and Ole Miss are shiny examples of how consistently good -- but not great -- recruiting can cause an SEC program to take steps back on the field. Both teams have assembled stellar classes in the past (Exhibit A: 2012 Ole Miss), but each program has had trouble pumping in top-20 classes on a yearly bases, which has contributed to a handful of losing seasons and lack of consistency competing for SEC titles.

Wow, thanks for the correction (no sarcasm applied). Readers were probably thinking I was saying "Texas is the lowest rank of British nobility of 5-star recruits." Using "barren" sends a more accurate message. No wonder I'm still in college.

Thanks for giving Augusta a shout out. I'm Augusta born and raised; love the area, feel, for the most part, it's a great area to raise a family. I appreciate your service and time you spent with us at Fort Gordon.

"The Aggies currently have three 5-star recruits. Texas is baron of 5-stars this year and has five less 4-star commitments than their "Big Brother" from the state capital."

Not sure what I wrote here. Should say: "Their 'Big Brother' from the state capital is baron of 5-stars this year and has five less 4-star commitments."

Schaub has had an NFL life time to prove himself and hasn't. Manziel would be a risk, but really, which quarterback isn't at least a small risk? This quarterback class is better than last years, but not nearly as strong as the Luck/RGIII/Wilson class. I'm not sold on Bridgewater being the better of the group. Manziel is as good of a choice as any. Playing in his home state and close to his alma-mater may help Johnny transition better to the league. Could be a psychological factor that works in the Texans favor.

I completely agree. Minnesota should still consider using a second day pick on a QB. Castell did fairly well in the games he started. He performed minor miracles against the Eagles late in the year. He blew up Greg Jennings that game, who I should have started in my fantasy league, but, you know, my crystal ball was out-of-order that week.
Posted Wednesday January 22, 2014, About: Who are the NFL???s top fans?
Even with their franchises in what seems to be never-ending disarray, Raiders and Browns fans have always had a concrete reputation for being two of the NFL's most loyal fanbases. The Browns of today are a reincarnation of the original Browns that moved to Baltimore, but the "Dog Pound" has stayed intact from Cleveland's beginnings as a franchise in the 1940s. Gotta respect the Dog Pound, Oh, and Jim Brown.

Chudzinski being fired made my stomach churn in uncomfortable ways -- I'm not even a Cleveland fan. The Browns are arguably the worst run franchise next to the The Raiders. You can't always get what you want, and if you're the Cleveland Browns, you can't always get what you need either. Should have given Chudzinski another two seasons. He even said in his introductory press-conference last year that Browns supporters needed to be patient for a turnaround. They were on the up-swing at the beginning of the season, but Hoyer's season ending injury killed any momentum the Browns had. Hoyer may have been another Derek Anderson one-hit-wonder, but there's no way to know for sure. Chudzinski may still be the head coach if Hoyer stayed healthy.

There down to interviewing Dirk Koetter now that Gase has taken his name out of the hat.
Posted Wednesday January 22, 2014, About: If playoffs expand to 14, only No. 1 seeds will receive byes.
Reorganizing the way seeding is done is one change to the play-off structure I wouldn't have a problem with. In my opinion, teams should be seeded based on record (head-to-head or division record for tiebreakers). Green Bay should have had to play at San Francisco in the wild-card round of this years play-offs. Pittsburgh (11-5) should have had home-field advantage over the Broncos (8-8) in 2012 and back in 2010, Seattle (7-9) should have played at New Orleans (11-5). The teams who qualify for the NCAA tournament in basketball are seeded based on how they performed throughout the regular season, not if they won their conference. Back in 2007, UGA miraculously won the SEC tournament to qualify for the NCAA tournament. They were seeded 14, lower than any at-large teams that came from the SEC.

Villanova by 6 over Creighton? Hahaha, you can't get em all right.

Silver-lining was probably too complimentary. I'm against expansion. But if expansion is inevitable, I'm curious to see how teams manage their expectations in the last couple weeks of the season (do they rest players? are they play more aggressively?). I definitely don't want the NFL play-offs to resemble the NHL or even NBA playoffs. When it comes to overall product, less is more.
Posted Monday January 20, 2014, About: Take some time too mourn.
I generally take on the underdog mentality, so I'm hoping the Seahawks win their first Superbowl. Is my gut telling me that will happen? Of course not.

I might be flying too high on the Peyton plane, but I honestly feel that he is going to wipe the can't-win-the-big-one stain right off his back in New York City. Of course Richard Sherman will do all he can to keep Peyton's stain in plain sight. As good of a play Sherman made against Kap's pass to Crabtree, the pass was under-thrown and launched from the arm of Kaepernick, not The Peyton Manning. Kap may ascend to Manning's greatness in the not-so-distant future, but right now Manning is one of the greatest quaterbacks ever, having his best season just a few years shy of 40 years old.

Sherman and Seashawks defense, despite having stats ranking them number one in total defense, will have a difficult time defeating a talented group of Broncos' receivers and the legendary gun-slinger at the helm.

This game will be Peyton's time and possibly the bow that ties up his legendary career.

The Seahawks are built to win for many years. Superbowl appearances for the twelfth man won't be a rare occurrence.
Posted Tuesday December 10, 2013, About: IF we had the 4 team playoff, who you got?
1. FSU - Obvious reasons

2. Auburn - Equal footing with FSU for team playing their best football right now

3. Michigan State - SOS is weak, but all 12 wins were by more than a TD.

4. Alabama -

I want to stick Baylor or Stanford here because they are conference champs, but I would be out of mind if I did. Baylor's lone loss was a blowout and Stanford has two losses. The selection committee would rank Bama's loss better than Baylor and Stanford's. This way of thinking falls in-line with the selection committee for the NCAA Tournament in basketball.

This would be an incredible set up if it was a reality. FSU versus Bama would be a National Championship matchup before the actual National Championship matchup.
