As for Welker, yes he was made better by Tom Brady, but he also made Tom Brady, AND Randy Moss a lot better. Teams realized that they had to account for the little guy coming across the middle as well as Moss, and it became a guessing game. Don't forget that Welker was Miami's leading receiver in 2006 with Culpepper/Harrington at QB. The Dolphins should have done a lot more to try and keep him.
Trading Chambers was a pretty good value trade. Chambers would have never gotten a 2nd round pick in the off-season and the Dolphins were obviously in rebuilding mode. We drafted Chad Henne with the pick we got from San Diego.
I agree with jdang307, receivers are a dime a dozen, and that is probably why the Phins didn't address the position on draft day, especially figuring they could sign Bess once the draft ended. This team needs help everywhere, so Parcells and co. used the draft to build both lines (6 of 9 picks were linemen).
Thank God for a coaching staff and front office that finally understands that that is where it all starts!
