Posted Monday May 18, 2009, About: Personal issue behind Big Papi's slump?
It could be steroids or something nefarious. But there also could be something going on in his homeland, the Dominican Republic.Family issues, possibly.A couple of years ago,the mother of pitcher Ugueth Urbina was kidnapped. The ordeal lasted for a couple of months and the kidnappers demanded $6 million. She was eventually rescued. It's not uncommon for foreign MLB players have to deal with things like that because of the money they make.

I'm not saying it could be something as bad as that, but America isn't his homeland and it's not like he can fly to the Dominican whenever he pleases. There could be someone sick, someone threatening his family etc..NONE of us knows until he tells us.

"they need to make an example, plaxico or not, that playing in the NFL for millions is a privilege not a birth right"

I seriously doubt any league would have one rule for every player.Ray Lewis sat in jail for a year waiting to go to trial for murder. He wasn't kicked out of the league. He eventually pleaded to a lesser charge to testify against two co-defendants.But he was out of football for a year.

Jamal Lewis was actually convicted and sent to a Federal prison camp for putting together a drug deal.

If Plaxico is convicted, could he be blackballed from the NFL? Sure, but if something of this nature happens to another player in the NFL,I wouldn't be so sure they would have a similar punishment.I think they'll take it on a case by case basis.
Posted Sunday May 17, 2009, About: Agent: Two teams interested in Plaxico
For a lot of organizations, talent and the chance of winning trumps everything.Forget character. Some team who thinks they're a player away will go after Plaxico.(assuming he's not breaking rocks on the chain gang) So when Plax isn't catching passes, will he be tossing salads?

I'm not on the East Coast,so someone could educate me.Has Brooklyn had any type of major pro sport franchise since the Dodgers left?
Posted Saturday May 16, 2009, About: Sapp: Golf's bad for Romo
I personally thought the Cowboys should've acquired Jay Cutler somehow and let him and Romo fight for the starting job.Because Cutler is cocky, arrogant, confident and talented.Romo has a sense of security.I don't even know who the Cowboys' backup quarterback is.

That's why he can actually try to qualify for the US Open and not just dream about it.Bill Parcells told him NOT to be a celebrity and looks what happens.

Romo needs his job security threatened.I mean that in a good way.Because if he's a backup...well....backups usually don't have major endorsements.Jessica might not stay with him because she'll be thinking about her image. And he just might be forgotten.
Posted Saturday May 16, 2009, About: Torre: Manny's Dodgers apology 'uncomfortable'
I'm wondering if the Dodgers are upset that Manny took something that's banned or because he got caught. No one knows who's taking what.So are there other guys on the Dodgers taking something, but haven't been caught yet?

I'm sure Manny is truly sorry, but I'm trying to figure out what the owner Frank Mc Court thought this would accomplish. To embarass him? I would just let him go off and find some peace. He probably feels bad as it is.Plus later in the year, when they need him most,"Manny might be Manny" to show the organization a thing or two.
Just ask the Red Sox.

quote #6

"I'm sorry but I thought football was about putting together the best team possible and going to play. Packers were in the NFC Championship game Brett's last year. The following year they missed the playoffs. This should be all the evidence you need. Favre was, is a far better option at QB than Rodgers."

And Favre threw a pick that lost them the game.Plus,he would've done the whole retirement thing during the off season.I mean, this IS what he does.It doesn't matter if there's a team willing to take him. This is like a ritual now.

Favre could have a team in mind for NEXT year, but he'll go through this whole drama because he can. I mean he had Minnesota in mind BEFORE he went to the Jets. What does that tell you? He's been wanting to play against Green Bay all along. The Jets were just a rest stop.

And what if he loses both games? Is he going to stick around another year until he can beat Green Bay? He'll be like George Blanda, playing until his mid 40's.What would be so ironic and so bitter is if he's hit in a game against Green Bay,gets injured and ends his career that way.
Posted Saturday May 16, 2009, About: Lakers trying not to panic
I think it's more than the back court. It's seems as if they think they can turn it on when they want to.They seem ill prepared, which is odd.As if they don't know what's coming.I do think if they are fortunate to win this next game, there will be a sense of urgency in the next series.I'm not sure if Kobe actually knows when he should try to take over or not.Because they are so inconsistent. The other teams in the playoffs don't seem to have this problem.Chauncey Billups runs the show,so he knows who to go or when to take the shot himself. The Celtics have so many options.Whether it's the inside game or outside game.It can Pierce or Allen or Big Baby or House or take your pick. One of them is going to make a pressure shot. Orlando just didn't stay with what was working.Cleveland is a different beast all together.

Before this series started,I thought the Lakers would have trouble with the Rockets, they have throughout their playoff history. But I do think they will win this game just on fear alone. The fear of what it will be like for them to sit home and watch the Nuggets play the Rockets.I think this would be as much of a disaster as Golden State beating the Mavericks a couple of years ago.
Posted Saturday May 16, 2009, About: Source: Favre revealed wishes to Goodell
Maybe Brett can sign with EVERY team on Green Bay's schedule. So each week he can have a crack at them. One week he's with Minnesota, next week,he signs with Tampa Bay or whomever.
Because it's so clear what he wants and I don't think playing Green Bay two games a year is enough to satisfy his lust. What if he loses both games? What if he throws an interception that's returned for a winning touchdown in one game and Aaron Rodgers rallies the Packers with a "Favre" like comeback in the other game? He just might start screaming "It's not fair,it's not fair!" while John Madden,Peter King and Greta Van Susteren try to console him.

Is there something about Duke players that doesn't translate well to the pro game? Because at Duke he could shoot lights out,but since he's been in the pros...I know there are a lot more factors than just because he went to Duke. Not the right system etc...But if he can't do it,someone needs to step up and be a folk hero because there's more riding on this than just game 7 and a trip to the next round. This franchise needs to turn the corner.Might as well do it against the defending champs.

quote #69
"I think that racism has once again reared its ugly head in many of the comments I have read. I can't believe that some people have tried to make Kenyon the villan in this situation. Mark Cuban acted innappropiately. As far as I know, Kenyon's mother was watching the game and keeping to herself. What right does Mark Cuban have to address her in the way that he did (even address her at all). We are here debating whether Kenyon Martin is a thug or not while Cuban is the only one who displayed "thug" like behaviour. There are huge racial overtones to this conversation. Kenyon plays emotional, passionate, and tough basketball. Sure he has given some hard fouls, but they PALE in comparison to other fouls I have seen and wouldn't even be called flagrants in the 80s. Even the reference to guns is very racial. He has tatoos and scowls so he is a thug. Let's be real people; people are referring to Kenyon as a thug largely because of his race. Plain and simple! What would you all do if someone talked to your mother like that? Would there even be a debate if Kenyon addressed Mark Cuban's mother like that? He would have probably been charged."

Well of course it's racial. You're correct, but people keep dancing around it.But we know people look first and get to know you later.I never saw a thug as being exclusive to one ethnic group.

It depends on perception and who's being picked on.During the depression,Al Capone had a soup kitchen for those in need. All the while he was bootlegging and doing other stuff.Law enforcement can act thuggish.Politicians can act thuggish.Parents can act thuggish to their kids.

Isn't Dirk's girlfriend actually a thug when you think about it? Forget K Mart and Mark Cuban and all that.Dirk's "lady" has warrants for her arrest.A history of crime.First name basis with law enforcement.Familiar with the penal system.

She's a THUG!!!
Posted Friday May 15, 2009, About: T-Wolves keeping McHale?
This is how a franchise stays bad for a long time.Sticking with personnel who don't work out.I would get rid of McHale solely because he ran the franchise into the ground to begin with. And no, he didn't have a long time to show what he can do as coach, but I would just start fresh anyway.

To use a really tired phrase,I would "change the culture" around there.
Posted Friday May 15, 2009, About: Magic GM: Van Gundy's job safe
Stan Van Gundy seems to be a good regular season coach, but not a playoff type coach. And there are guys like that.Phil Jackson for one.And yes,he has had talent over the years, but he doesn't seem to be rattled on the sidelines.

Terry Francona of the Red Sox,Joe Torre of the Dodgers. What these guys have is a calmness about them. And they know what to do in the postseason for the most part.

If Van Gundy could readjust his approach in pressure situations,hmm....but then again being who he is,is what got him this far.I hope he doesn't blow it.

quote # 61

"Sound like we have a thug for a owner. Would you like someone to speak to Mother in that manner? When does having tattoos make a person a thug? People are paying for entertainment. Not some game where you pass the ball 20 times a trip down the court. If European players where that great, we would be watching there league on television."

Did anyone ever say that this was the reality? No.It's the PERCEPTION.Where were you when there was all this talk about the NBA isn't as popular with the older demographic? Where it needed to be cleaned up?

What a lot of this is,is a generation gap.Stern started in 1984,so he saw the rise of Jordan, the battles of Bird and Magic and some of the best basketball ever.He didn't envision tattoos, the popularity of hip hop and lots of guys leaving college early or skipping it and all that stuff. If he really wanted to do something,he could've had guys come to the NBA after 4 years of college...mandatory.Or at least 3.I saw Dennis Rodman in the 90's with tattoos and piercings.Allen Iverson was the first I saw with cornrows and tattoos. But Stern didn't start a dress code until there so many guys with tattoos that some fans were being turned off.

The league ISN'T what he wants it to be.That's what this comes down to.If he thinks players lack fundamentals,he's going to make a push for players that have them. And there is a perception that players from other countries have fundamentals.People also think they're soft as well.So what's Stern to do? Alienate one fan base to please another?

out of curiosity, what has Kenyon Martin ever done to lead anyone to believe that he should be characterized as a thug?

thug

noun
1. a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.
2. (sometimes initial capital letter) one of a former group of professional robbers and murderers in India who strangled their victims.

Is K Mart a thug? Not to me,but a thug is something different for everyone.Because I remember a player named Cherokee Parks from Duke, played in the pros for a while and he had lots of tats, but no one called him a thug.By the same token,I never heard Dennis Rodman called a thug.Lots of other things, but not a thug. And look at "Birdman" on Denver.I could see someone being intimidated by him.It depends on who you are and what you've experienced in life.

"I hate people like this.....say what you mean and try not to clean it up, so we can know who you really are..."

well, first of all,I really don't give a **** if you like me or not,but THIS is what I mean...

When I was growing up in the 70's I saw the rise of punk rock.tats, piercings, the whole works.
So for 30 years,I've been used to it.But a lot of people aren't.So that put a label on others who have this look. But it's more than a look,it's a culture onto itself.

And then in the late 80's early 90's,I saw the goth scene and the same thing. But now basketball players have tats people get all bent out of shape.

NOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?!!!
