I agree that Arshavin's versatilty would suit Spurs better as being the midfield playmaker that they have already with Modric and Dos Santos, but with him being able to play a second striker role he'll be their choice due to they have him the furthest along in negotiations--If they want Berbatov gone before the season starts and another striker in by then, I believe he's their only choice.

The only realistic name ive heard being tossed around for a striker is Milito, but that was a while ago and I doubt it is still being considered. They would never have a chance to get Villa unless they robbed a bank and drove the truck to his house. I think they'll be fine with Arshavin and Bent.

Berbs wants to get out of White Hart Lane in a hurry and is being his sulky moody self probably 10 fold to get out. Since his little hissy fit in the locker room this sunday when Spurs played Roma, it seems like he's been on the fast track to get moved out.

Berbatov is great, but I dont want someone at spurs who doesn't want to be there. I'd put money on Berbs being gone by friday, and Arshavin his replacement. Ramos could then either play two up front with him and Bent, or play Arshavin in the hole and have a lone striker formation. I expect this to finally come to a conclusion by the start of the season.

I'm fairly certain Ramos has no plans to include Lee in the squad at all this year..from what I heard somewhere he's going back to playing in France, I dont quite remember. Most likely the starting 11 would look like this:
Gomes
Hutton - Corluka - Woodgate - Bale
Huddlestone
Bentley - Jenas - Dos Santos
Modric
Berbatov

I dont anticipate Villa to come unless Berbatov is sold (which looks less likely to happen day by day.) If Spurs do get Arshavin though (which looks fairly likely, cuz SSN was reporting he was on strike against Zenit or something) Then you put Arshavin where modric would be , and put Modric in Jenas's spot. (which i would prefer, i hate jenas)

Berbatov may be going, but I dont think Robbie Keane will. Liverpool dont have the $$ to pay for Keane, and I really dont think Spurs would let both of their starting strikers leave unless they bring in some big names to replace them...I cant really see Bent starting.

If neither of them leave, i still expect Spurs will go after another midfielder and backup keeper/center back. I too am eager to see what Spurs can do this season, and I hope for great things.

Nope they didn't, but after the Carling Cup victory they didnt have anything to play for and basically gave up caring it seemed. Which is OK I guess, got UEFA Cup entry again so I cant really complain.

I still hold hope that Berbs will stay, but I do think it does look grim. Lennon is okay, great pace but like mentioned above - lacks crossing quality. If I had to choose between Spurs bringing in Bentley, or someone along the likes of Joaquin, I'd take Joaquin hands down. He could possibly come to Spurs cheaper than Bentley, due to the English player mark-up they all seem to have in the PL. Spurs still need another midfielder (Jenas is crap) to go along with Modric in the middle, 2 keepers, and some depth on the back line, regardless of if they lose Berbatov or not.

Ince saying that Bentley isnt going anywhere and him actually staying put is a whole different thing. Spurs can say Berbatov will stay put as much as they want, but if Man Utd or Barca come in with a 25+ mil bid for him, they'll be putting him on the next flight out of there.

You may not need to worry about that anymore if Spurs get Bentley. Last thing I heard about that it was fairly close to being done... But you never know till they take a picture w/the kit on.

Unless Spurs somehow can replace Berbatov with the likes of Villa I really hope he will stay with the club this year. Sadly I doubt that'll be the case.
Posted Friday June 13, 2008, About: Spurs enter Joaquin chase
The only thing Lennon seems to do well is run past people. Afterwards, his crosses are sub-par. I would take Joaquin over Lennon though..but I agree - Need to improve in the other positions first.

I have to agree with you there Gaucho. I'd love to see Joaquin at The Lane and hope Ramos can pull the trigger on it. The more new midfielders in the starting 11 this upcoming year for Spurs, the better. I dont want to see Jenas or Zokora anywhere but on the bench.

Those words from Eto'o did hurt, but were truthful -- I'm just hoping that with the signings of Dos Santos and Modric will show enough intent for Berbs to decide to stay put. Spurs still need to sign a DM, CB, and 2 GK's by the end of the window as well.
Posted Wednesday June 04, 2008, About: Spurs forcing Berbatov's hand
Well a striker that would be willing to come off the bench and be happy about it. I dont think Rooney, Tevez or Berbatov would be very happy with not starting.

Im to the point of where I'd love Berbatov to stay, but at the same time - if he goes, it wouldn't bother me...I just dont want him to be sold to a team in the Premiership. If I was Man Utd I would go after Villa before Berbataov, thats for sure.
Posted Wednesday June 04, 2008, About: Spurs forcing Berbatov's hand
If berbatov is to leave Spurs, it will be to a different league. Spurs would be silly to sell him to Man Utd like they did with Carrick. Plus I dont think Man U needs him.

I really hope he stays though. Spurs just gotta get him some more midfield help to give him some help, Modric is a great start.
Posted Tuesday May 13, 2008, About: Inter preparing monster Eto'o bid
Yeah if its straight up money, i dont know if Spurs can match the money required to land him. As stated above, it does look like the only way Eto'o comes to The Lane is if Berbatov is leaving the other way, which I'm fine with. In a perfect world I'd prefer to see Berbatov stay and Spurs go out and get Villa, but theres zero chance of that happening i'm sure.

Is that where he is rumored to be heading now? Cool. it seems like alot of teams in Europe will be doin a whole bunch of cleaning out. Seems like it'll be moves-a-plenty. I'd love to see Spurs go after some of the uphappy players at Valencia.
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Spurs intensify Eto'o chase
It'll be a very interesting off-season for Spurs thats for sure. I would think Eto'o going to Inter all depends if they end up bringing in Mourinho and in turn he'd more than likely have Drogba begging to be brought over.
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Spurs intensify Eto'o chase
I can see that being a problem with a straight swap of Berbatov for Eto'o. I think Spurs will get a pretty penny for Berbatov, and I'd love to see them spend that, and whatever else it would take on Eto'o though. Im not sure if it'll ever happen, but it seems now with Ramos at the helm Spurs are linked with every out of favor star from La Liga. If push comes to shove and Spurs only have the $$ to sign a top class midfielder, or Eto'o I would hope they'd choose the midfielder.. They still do have Darren Bent if Berbatov goes.
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Spurs intensify Eto'o chase
Agreed Gaucho. Robinson and Cerny will be gone in the off season, no doubt about it. I know Kameni and Gomez from PSV are two named that ive seen tossed around the Spurs communities. I really hope Ramos can convince either/or to join..It'll be nice to have someone your not consantly worried about in goal.

Yeah his weekly page wage would definately break the normal structure Spurs have of <60k a week contracts. They cant expect to attract world class players though with that though. So hopefully they'll throw that by the wayside and bring him in. Im sure whatever we get for Berbatov will cover most if not all of the transfer fee so that i dont think will be of much concern.

Spurs need a better midfield to get the 100% out of Eto'o though, I dont rate Jenas at all due to his inconsistancy. Modric will definately help, but they still need a holding mid and another with more creativity. Jenas, Zokora and Huddlestone wont cut it. (and havent)
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Spurs intensify Eto'o chase
I think its possible. Spurs definately seem to show their intent to push the top 4 next season with Ramos planning to cut alot of dead weight from the squad & with the possibility of berbatov leaving.
Posted Thursday May 08, 2008, About: Spurs in talks for Barca star
I dont think Eto'o coming to White Hart Lane is such an outlandish proposition. Sure, we're not in the Champions League, and not considered part of the big 4..But I think the potential upside of the club with Ramos at the helm could help sway a few big names to Spurs this off-season to help put them challenge the top 4 and a champions league spot next year.

My guess is if we do purchase Eto'o, it will be from the money we get for Berbatov.
