Pedroia. Hoos, didn't you pay attention to any of my rants last year? The rumor was that the RS would sign Ethier in the offseason of his FA year. But then the bonehead went and re-upped with the Dodgers. I think the Sox could make this happen if they wanted to to.
I'm not sure he has overcome those demons. Which is why he can't sign in either NY or Boston. He simply doesn't have the stones to play in either city.
We had the Director of Player Personnel for the Pawtucket Red Sox speak at a Rotary meeting a few years back. He said that 90% of the guys in AAA are only there so the 10% with actual major league talent will have someone to play with.
Dude, you could park a 747 in the separation between the wide outs and DB's. That's not the DC's fault. Oh and I made the comment that McCourty's run back for TD would be to make up for the inevitable PI call at some point. No PI, but a poorly-timed fumble was just as costly.
Pedroia's got more than 5 years in the majors; he can't be "sent to Triple A" without his consent. Secondly, given that he's the ONLY member of this team producing on a consistent basis, why would John Henry even let that thought enter his head?
There are many people who now believe that managing the "X's and O's" isn't nearly as important as the ability to manage the people. I think both last season, and this, prove that point. Tek at least gets a look.
The problem now will be 1) identifying the candidate; 2) getting the candidate to agree to a deal; oh and 3) does he have the rocks to play in Boston with the media and fan pressure?
You can't say Wade's attitude is coming completely out of left field. When Miami was seducing LeBron, everybody encouraged DWade to be a "team player", embrace the opportunity, consider the possibilities of multiple championships (pretty much guaranteed by the Great One), and be able to let go of sole responsibility for winning night in and night out. But the greatness doesn't come...2 years in a row. On top of that, LBJ is #3 in MVP voting the first year and wins the bessed thing the next. Maybe DWade is just tired of waiting for James to put his money where his mouth is. Either he is the best to ever lace up the shoes or he isn't. You can't have it both ways. Dwayne Wade is a good basketball player. He and Bosch are 10x anything James ever had in Cleveland. A championship in Miami should be a done deal. IF, and I'm beginnning to wonder, James is everything the hype says he is. Maybe he's the common denominator in the failures of both teams.
Unfortunately, those salaries are the new reality in baseball. You don't really think guys like Jason Werth or Jonathan Papelbon are actually capable of earning the kind of money they have been promised. Ellsbury will be next and he'll get more than Crawford. The only saving grace is that while only about 20% of contracts are insured, the big ones always are. So Lackey, Crawford, Gonzales, probably Beckett...all insured.
And, I'm pretty sure Youkilis will be traded at the deadline. Hindsight being 20/20, the Sox probably should have traded him and kept Adrian Beltre.
He and Pedey are very close. All that ASU love.
"I never wanted this stupid job anyway, but that headcase Bard insisted he was the best option in the starting rotation, so here we are."
