Just go somewhere that you will play.
Posted Saturday November 28, 2009, About: Aberdeen out on Holden?
Aberdeen wouldn't be the worst choice and he probably would get some playing time. Problem is that the level of play isn't really any higher in Scotland than it is in MLS. Pay is better though......

And what does Aberdeen mean that they cannot afford Holden? He is out of contract so there is no transfer fee. Just got to pay his salary, and it isn't going to be that high.

Who is this Long Wang guy? Your comments make no sense...

And what is with the picture T&E. You don't have picture of Soler so you instead put in a picture that looks like Wolyneic is trying to give birth or something.

Don't know much about Soler, but NYRB needs someone who will make good player decisions, something that NYRB has never really done.

200,000 is a lot, but Seitz has real potential. I am excited that he is going to be getting some real minutes with Philly because he has the ability to the next great US keeper.
Posted Wednesday November 25, 2009, About: Crew's Moreno a fit for Philly Union?
Philadelphia 2009 Expansion Draft:

Jordan Harvey (D), Colorado Rapids
Andrew Jacobsen (M), D.C. United
Brad Knighton (G), New England Revolution
Sebastien Le Toux (F), Seattle Sounders FC
Stefani Miglioranzi (M), L.A. Galaxy
Alejandro Moreno (F), Columbus Crew
Dave Myrie (D), Chicago Fire
Shea Salinas (M), San Jose Earthquakes
Shavar Thomas (D, Chivas USA
Nick Zimmerman (M), New York Red Bulls

Yeah, some surprising choices by Nowak for sure. I agree with Otergod that he must have something up his sleave because didn't really select any big name players. I am thinking that he is looking to go and get players from outside MLS. I am surprised he didn't pick Convey. I know he has been awful lately, but coming into the right environment (your hometown) can help a lost player find his way again. I cannot believe he took Miglioranzi, I think that guy is terrible.

Posted Wednesday November 25, 2009, About: U.S. to play friendly at Netherlands?
We had a good number of first team players in our friendlies against Slovakia and Denmark (Boca, Spector, Clark, Bradley, Holden, Altidore against Denmark for instance). Also, Slovakia and Denmark weren't their top squads either.

The problem I have is that if we want any chance to do anything in the World Cup we need to be beating teams like Slovakia and Denmark. I think most USMNT fans believe we have the ability to do that and therefore we need to show it, even if our top squad isn't on the pitch. Injuries happen and I would be shocked if one didn't creep up right before the World Cup so we need to be able to perform when we are forced to go with a second or third choice player. Not only that, but against Denmark several players who are essentially first team locks (Bradley, Clark, Altidore) looked awful.

The problem with a game against Holland is that losing by 5 goals just before the World Cup is not going to help the teams confidence, which is already down after two bad friendlies. A team's mental state is just as important as its physical ability, especially in the biggest stage in sports.

Isn't Emilio's salary in DP range? I would think that would prevent him from getting selected.

As a Spurs supporter, I am glad that Pool is sticking with this joker.

And dynamo, go easy on Arry. Hes got my side crackin'.
Posted Wednesday November 25, 2009, About: U.S. to play friendly at Netherlands?
That would be.... a slaughter. If we can't put up a decent showing against Slovakia or Denmark what chance would we have against Holland? Especially since we cannot beat a european team in europe that isn't named Poland.

I am very doubtful about our chances at South Africa. I would be happy with one win. The way things have been going we are only going to have half of our team not battling injury.
Posted Tuesday November 24, 2009, About: Who will Philly Union draft?
Couldn't agree more, Keller is very articulate. While we are talking about MLS broadcasts, I really wish they could get better announcers. They just don't seem to be able to recognize what is happening on the field half the time and they don't add much outside information to the game. Plus there is just something that feels right to me (and I am sure to many others) when you are watching a game and a knowledgable english accent is covering the action.

In all honesty it wouldn't really answer the persons accent, it just that MLS' announcers are terrible.
Posted Monday November 23, 2009, About: Beckham won't own Montreal team
Well certainly a penalty shootout isn't the way anyone would want it decided, but the mere possibilty that will be the decider is irrelevant to my point. I am saying that the playoffs are exciting, create buzz for the league, crowns the team that plays best when the most is on the line, etc.

The european method of having Chelsea or Man Utd win the league with three games left in a tie at Aston Villa, for example, is incredibly unsatisfying. It may be more equitable, but no way is a lack of playoffs better for the fans or the league.
Posted Monday November 23, 2009, About: Rangers scouting Dynamo's Holden
Don't go to Rangers. That is where US players go to rot on the bench. Plus I don't think that the level of play is any higher than MLS.
Posted Monday November 23, 2009, About: Beckham won't own Montreal team
I don't know why everyone hates the playoffs. I am glad that MLS isn't going the EU route and just having the league table finish determine the champion. A true champion is one that digs in at the end and plays the best when everything is on the line. Plus we get to watch a few extra weeks of exciting soccer.

Anyways that regular season champ isn't ignored. They get the supporters shield and they also get a spot in the CONCACAF Champion's League. I like the system that MLS has and I think that most people not stuck on "its not the way europe does it" would agree.

Tough loss for the Galaxy. Both teams had chances (RSL maybe a few more) and I always feel bad for a team when they lose in a penalty shootout, especially in the final. LA's strikers should be embarrassed after 3 attacking players missed penalties (Donovan, Buddle, and Kirovski) and the best taken penalty was from Berhalter.

Unbelievable the amount of injuries that affected the game. RSL had two injuries and LA had Becks struggling with injury and had to use two substitutions for injuries to Ricketts and Gonzalez. Ricketts was the biggest loss because the game always looked like going to a shootout after full time. Both teams looked completely beat by the 80 minutes mark. Makes me wonder if the playoffs are a little too long or they need more time in between games. Something to consider.
Posted Thursday November 19, 2009, About: Dynamo's Holden has interest from EPL, SPL
Go to a team where you will get a chance to actually PLAY! As for the work permit, he should probably be able to get one with the number of caps he is piling up. He is practically a shoe in for the USMNT at the world cup next summer.

Posted Wednesday November 18, 2009, About: Agent: Gattuso not going to Man City
Gattuso = AC Milan. If he left it would be like Farve leaving the Packers. Oh wait..... ;-) In all seriousness though, I think that if he left it would be a move he would later regret. The grass might look greener on the other side, but that doesn't mean that it actually is greener.
Posted Wednesday November 18, 2009, About: Detroit seeking MLS club at Silverdome
Detroit...... nothing else needs to be said.

So, how about we talked about MLS expansion in general? MLS is currently at 18 teams and will be adding 2 more before it is likely done expanding for quite a while. I think that the next city to get a team will be Montreal. The support in Canada for MLS has been tremendous and Montreal would offer a large market. I also like bringing in USL teams because it makes for a smooth transition to the league (see Seattle).

The other obvious choice for expansion seems to be St. Louis, but I would prefer to see Kansas City move to St. Louis as I don't think KC is a very good location for a MLS team and Missouri certainly doesn't need two teams. So that leaves one more expansion slot. I think that the best places to fill that last spot would be another NY team (but don't share the stadium with NYRB), Minneapolis, or a Arizona/New Mexico team. Don't even joke about a Florida team....

Lose Hamlett and pick up Preki. He got the most out of a side that in my opinion has overachieved for years.
Posted Wednesday November 18, 2009, About: Schelotto leaving Columbus?
He might still take it. He would be earning about $200,000 with the pay cut and that might be more than he could get elsewhere. He is getting up there in age. I hope for MLS that he stays.
