Yeah, but can we get some actual hockey news, like how it is that the officials blew the call on the Wings goal the other night. The officials need to explain that one.

He led in goals, but yes, he is a good player. He, Filp and Franzen really sparked them towards the win against the Ducks. At the same time, I can remember him trying to do too much by himself at the end. You hope great players can help make players around him better. The Pens collapsed on him like the Wings did on Sidney the year before, and he just kept going in trying to split the double teams to no effect.

Michigan can take heart, your team can go through a mediocre stretch, academic scandals, a coaching clusterflip (Price) and come out the other end thinking you smell like roses and everyone else is worthless. I'm sure the Iron Bowl was the most important thing in college football still before Saban came to campus, but Ohio State-Michigan isn't worth spit.

goC/Jesus, I get limit opps to see the Wings, so what were the lines the other night? I knew Hank, Cleary, Leino were supposed to be together, and I imagined the Draps-Eaves-Helm line was going to stay together. So, it seems odd, but the other top line would seem to be Dats-Bert-Holmstrom, and that would leave Abdelkader-Miller and??

Whaaa??? I thought they played the games to entertain me. How disappointing.

After going to the conference finals three years ago, and to the Cup the last two, I wasn't sure they'd have the gas for another deep run again. That's a lot of hockey (for the Pens too, but I didn't say it). And I thought that before the injuries, just based on the free agents we lost. Maybe the injuries will help and those guys will be healthy and fresh by season end. We've still got a Mule, Z and a Dats to ride into the playoffs, and that ain't half bad.

Actually, in the reg. season last year the Jackets kind of handed it to the Wings (back-to-back hat tricks for Nash) and were the last team I wanted to start the playoffs against. The Wings did draw them in the first round and smashed them.

Probably the biggest thing now, as Babcock has noted a few times, is that there's little margin for error this year and they cannot sleepwalk through games like they have previously. The concentration needs to be fine-tuned, game in, game out.

...but, now that I see the Mavericks have played 9 games and their own site isn't updated with their own stats (shows zero games played) and our rec league ice melted Wed. and we couldn't play...well, let's just say I'm not so sold that KC will support hockey that well.

I don't count on it. An NBA exhibition game draws far more at the Sprint Center than an NHL exhibition can. I am curious to see how the Mavericks (CHL) do though. Their first home game is tonight. From what I hear, they are doing quite well...in penalty minutes per game.

They are one point behind Chicago, and just showed the Blue Jackets their place in the mix. It's not a bad spot for them to be in when they have had such impactful injuries. They lost scorers, so they needed to concentrate on defense (it's starting to tighten up lately). Critics were saying that Holmstrom had to show up, and he has. Hank and Dats haven't been their usual selves most of the season so far, but they seem to be hitting their stride right now. They are taking their lumps, but they still are fighting for the division lead...that's not too bad.

Yeah, I thought about that, but that first turn was when they basically bought the Cup. I should have said "lately", as they cut an obviously game Conklin as the backup to go with Howard (to finally give him a shot, but it was mostly done as a cost move).

The Red Wings style is not to give a goalie big bucks. Outside of the anomaly that was the Leafs game, the latest stretch of games hasn't been a mater of keeping goals out. Holland has got to be more worried about forwards and being able to score right now.
