Was watching the game recorded, but online saw that the game was in OT--figured reg. had to have ended 0-0. Pens should be kicking themselves for nearly stealing one when the other goaltender was lights out. Good tough game by both teams.
What I've been meaning to mention so far through the rounds...is it me or, outside of Dupuis's goal in the first game of this series, has the two-on-one been defended by everyone excellently in these playoffs? No one's been able to pass in those situations, and only Dupuis has put off a good enough shot to beat it. Saturday the Hawks had a three-on-one and Quincey nearly broke it up--it just happened to barely popped right to the guy that Dan Cleary should have been backchecking.
The personnel may have been dubious, but how could the guys out there let a guy go streaking free right up the middle. Both teams were fantastic defensively and then boom, one breakdown burns 'em. Suppose the same happened for the Pens off the turnover. But that being said, both were great shots.
Or Joe tried to talk to him about it already, but Roy couldn't hear him because of the Stanley Cup rings in his ears. "Stop pulling that @#$% Patrick, I've got those too!"
That's not how we like it to play here--it's only funny to us if he's a humorless prick. But I understand this has to be a joke (or he's so far from a players coach that he's actually urinated on their lockers while they're on the ice at practice). Much the same way I say to people: "Nothing personal, but you are an awful human being."
Many have hit on this, so no one particular to quote...if the PP itself is awful and this is a second year player, perhaps you should look at the coaching. I remember him being spectacular on all special teams at Michigan.
Giving Torts some benefit of the doubt, maybe it's a joke and he's talked to Hagelin about it, not to take it as calling him out (after all, he did put himon the PP last night). But on the other hand...no, not sure Torts has a joking bone in his body--there's only tough love or three finger love.
Or you could say you could see how frustrated he was. That cross-check certainly could have been called, but it's star player on star player, so...guess they're letting the boys play. From Toews comments, you don't see how they're calling the game and make adjustments the next game, you start playing according to how you see them calling the game that day.
Hawks better realize that they're playing a division rival for the last time, these aren't the same old Wings but they're still the same Wings, and the guy in red wearing the C is just as tough, strong, and pig-headed as their guy. It's going to be a dog fight. Even though it's a shortened season, the playoffs are not and you're going to get the crap kicked out of ya every game.
Second time this week I've mentioned this game (and by god I won't mention it again), but it was that damn Cordell Stewart game that made me flip the script. I was living at the dorm at the time. I was just struck with sudden defeat, decided I didn't want to hear anyone talk about it, give me grief about it, so I had my buddy bring me food from the cafeteria (had to be the "sick meal", which was basically soup). Later I thought "This is stupid, if you let sports affect you so much that you can't go somewhere to eat." I still take games kind of seriously, but I don't let it seap into other parts of life.
Dunno. I can't answer that question until Saturday afternoon. If the Blackhawks again make it seem like the entire second half of the game Detroit never leaves its own end, and outshoots them 2-1, then for sure it's the Blackhawks. We're not even sure if Crawford's .950 save percentage is because he's legit...he hasn't gotten enough action to show if he's brilliant or not.
I remember the play, but don't remember against which team. Jerry had problems his first year (amazingly, his hands were quite questionable for him), so much so that San Fran was wondering if they blew a pick on a bust. Came back the next year and was fantastic.
From what one writer said, he's a good kid, humble, family's important to him (brother plays at Wichita State), not concerned about the possible riches...seems more Kansas to me than Kentucky. I would say 'morning tweak' there to our Kentucky friends, but seriously, they can't read.
Maple Jordan. We're pretty psyched about it. True surprise, everyone figured he was going to go to Kentucky. Replacing all 5 starters, this is a big help.
Due to moves/associations, my team interests make me seem like a frontrunner. Born in KC (and all roads lead back to KC), moved to Michigan for 7 or my formative years, step-grandparents that lived in Foxboro that we'd visit often, graduated from KU. So it's Michigan football, KU basketball, Red Wings, Patriots. I've held it together so far with these associations.
