Somehow I believe the NCAA isn't done with the 'Canes just yet. I wonder if that recruit KC McDermott is still laughing?

My God ... is this what the Lakers have become? "Ifs" and "maybes," wishes and hopes? I don't think they realize that the appeal of the Lakers under Dr Buss is gone and is much less under Buss-light (Jim). What they have is an aging superstar with a major injury question trying to squeeze out one more ring (and or payday). a HC who is ill equipped to get them to the promised land, and a slim chance to hold on to a headcase super-talented big. Besides that they have a high-paid old Nash (now injury prone), MWP, Pau and a few odds and ends. Where are the assets?

I hear you SF, but answer this... how does playing 5 ACC opponents help with your national fan base? Maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on the football team, because it is fine for basketball. But, if the desire to make ND football relevant on the national picture I don't think it will help. Beginning next year all eyes will be on the 4 teams selected by the selection committee... there will not be BCS bowls anymore. It seems to me that those 4 bids will likely come from #1) SEC champion (for sure), #2) 2 teams will come from the champions of the B1G/PAC-12 and or Big 12. #3) The 4th team will be from SEC runner-up; ACC champion; the champion of the conference left out of #2; the Big East or Mt. West champ (must be undefeated) or an independent (Notre Dame, BYU, etc) who goes undefeated. You Domers have no back-up... like a conference championship. Here's something big to chew on... getting to the NC game and being humiliated will work against you in the future.
Posted Saturday June 08, 2013, About: Chris Bosh, Heat defend his 3-point shot selection
What the NBA doesn't need is another 7 foot 3 point shooter. I read where players think Bosh is "soft" and I agree. The NBA has become a league of dunks and 3's and since Bosh can't get the dunks he wants the 3's... like Metta World Peace. Remember Andrew Bynum getting benched for shooting 3's? IMO, the whole 3-point FG has hurt basketball. Many of you bloggers don't remember when there were no 3's. The ABA trying to compete with the NBA adopted it and then in 1979 the NBA added it. Just imagine a game when you don't have 2-3 players "hanging out" behind the arc. The offensive rebound has become a rare commodity except for long bounds.

About that... I think the Domers are so set on independence that they haven't thought this through. Playing 5 ACC foes each year will not help them with the Playoff 4 selection committee, as it is not exactly a power conference. So, they play 5 teams but have no chance of winning the ACC championship or playing in the game. I don't get it.

It has been a tough few months for the Domers. Getting embarrassed in the NC game... the Teo story... recruiting issues.... and now the program has been set back 2 years by having Rees as the starting QB. Piratey is going to go nuts and Van will put a positive spin on it and I think the ND bigwigs have pooped the pooch.

Maybe Urban had a surprise look on his face because he discovered he was recruiting a smug, classless kid with a big time attitude... the HS coach as well. Miami is a good place for the kid... alongside Seantrel Henderson... another 5-star kid with attitude that has amounted to nothing.
Posted Tuesday June 04, 2013, About: Brian Shaw on Nets' coaching wish-list
Shaw certainly deserves a shot. As for Jeff Van Gundy, I still get a mental picture of him riding on Patrick Ewing's foot with his comb-over flopping in the wind during the melee while coaching the Knicks.

Taylor and Behagen were not eligible to play the rest of the year... nothing to Dave Winfield. Every time I see Winfield on TV I'm sickened. He skated through and few people are aware his participation as a thug. BTW, Luke Witte was never the same after that event. He was in the hospital for several days. OSU legendary HC Fred Taylor (of the Lucas, Havlicek & Nowell days) was so disgusted he retired at the end of the year. Dave Winfield was a thug and probably still is.

While on the subject of Minnesota basketball I have something to get off my chest. Dave Winfield never had to pay for the price when he and his thug teammates sucker punched and kicked Ohio State's Luke Witte and other players in 1972:

"It all began with Ohio State holding a 50-44 lead in those waning seconds, when the Gophers??? Clyde Turner committed a flagrant foul on Buckeyes center Luke Witte as he was attempting a layup. Turner was thrown out of the game, but teammate Corky Taylor ??? seemingly with a gesture of sportsmanship ??? offered a hand to help up Witte.

Taylor instead kneed Witte in the groin and punched him in the head, after which a stomp by the Gophers??? Ron Behagen knocked Witte unconscious. Future baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, then a Minnesota basketball player, even got in on the action by landing punches on Ohio State???s Mark Wagar."

Tubby filled his schollys quickly as well... still couldn't cpmpete with the top end of the conference.

What fans forget about this game is that had Texas starting QB Colt McCoy not been injured (and couldn't play) the game may have turned out different... where would Alabama's legacy be then?

Posted Sunday June 02, 2013, About: Texas AD prefers 8 team playoff
I don't blame the Texas AD for wanting to add more teams... he just wants a chance for the Horns to get it. 16 teams may not do it, may have to go to 32 to ensure it!
Posted Sunday June 02, 2013, About: Ohio State trustees give Gordon Gee one more chance
How does a man who thinks a tie vs. Michigan is one of OSU's greatest victories (1994) get to be president of a major University? He's also go that catholic quote wrong. In high school, we used to say that the catholic girls were holy on Sunday, but were holy hell on Saturday night!

My God, one year in the conference and A&M already has the SEC arrogance! As for the sheep, Gene Wilder seemed to enjoy his relationship ("Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask") and as for me.... I was just helping the sheep over the fence! Not Baaaaaaaad!

So it is not allowed for Al Davis' screw ups to be exposed? They should be blamed on McKenzie? Sounds like silver-spoon Mike Davis is as vindictive as his father.
Posted Friday May 31, 2013, About: Zaire makes bid to be Irish QB
Looking at Malik's picture and reading the blurb gave birth to an analysis I wish to throw out for discussion. For years "athletic" (a synonym for black) QB's were not recognized as a way to win football games. Today with the recent successes of RGIII and others, we have an abundance of young athletic kids in the QB position. However, I maintain that it takes a special kid to be successful and that most of these quick and shifty kids playing QB are ill-fated. First, they seldom become adequate passers as it is hard to be accurate and read defenses on the run. A case in point was Denard Robinson. The D-backs were so worried about his running that they would abandom coverage but DR would throw the ball in the vicinity of the receiver. This could result in a TD completion, padding his passing stats. But, against wily DB's (Alabama and Notre Dame come to mind) they may be picked off. Second, these QB's almost always become injured and miss games. They are exciting to watch, offer much promise but until they learn to pass efficiently they will not last.

Yes, Gee needs to stuff his bow-tie in his mouth. He's the same guy who claimed in 1992 after OSU/MICH tied 13-13 said: "this tie is one of our greatest wins ever." I do like one of his lines though, it is what we used to say about catholic girls when I was in school...they are holy on Sunday and holy-hell on Saturday night!
