But I do agree with you that Silva isn't the best pound for pound 'hands down'. Fedor is only narrowly behind.

I think you've got it mixed around. Fedor has been winning since like 2005. Silva is just as much a beast, but I think Fedor's list of opponents has been just a bit more challenging. They are #1 and #2 in anyones book though.
cant wait to see rumble fight again though.
Cote barely beat Almeida. Imagine what hes gonna be able to do when he goes up against another BJJ expert whos ALSO an insane striker.

id like to see you come train for a month with me and tell me its not a sport homie. we are ATHLETES. you don't just sit on your **** and wait for the next fight to roll around. you put your body through intense conditioning and it requires ALOT of discipline.
if you don't like MMA go troll another forum.

I fully agree. I think that had that WEC event been broadcast on the level that EliteXC was, it would have opened alot of people's eyes to MMA in the right way. Instead you get a brawler with pretty little or no MMA experience fighting a guy who had lost like his last 3 or 4 fights. Top it off with the fact that dude apparently hadn't drained his ear for YEARS, and the fact that Kimbo didnt defend himself from those elbows for about a minute and a half and still no stoppage, and you have yourself a garbage event. The only good that came from that event was the Smith-Lawler fight. Other than that it just gave the MMA haters more ammo.
The WEC card on the other hand was awesome. Not only was the Faber-Pulver fight an awesome fight, but I think the Maeda-Torres fight was just as good if not a bit better because of the fighters skill range. Maeda-Torres is still one of my favorite fights of 2008. The undercard was still good, with the exception of that one sleeper at the beginning.
An expansion and growth of weightclasses only confuses things if you ask me. One of the reasons why boxing is so messed up is because you have way to many different champions in way to many different weight classes. Its hard to keep up with. Fans and general public want to know who the champ is, not who the 30 different guys claiming to be champ are.

You're talking about open weight class. Pride fighting was one of the last few MMA groups to carry the open weight class. Alot of the time it worked, but some times you'd just get a completely overmatched fight. I think it is better now that fighters are more equally matched. The fights still weight heavily on skill over size, but you dont see a 240lb guy going against a 180lb guy. I think the only weight class you can really leave open is HW. I think super heavyweight is a dumb idea.
I agree with you that multiple classes is a bad idea. 5 champions is better than 15. The UFC is very smart in how they run their business, and they wouldn't be the biggest MMA organization today if they weren't. The only thing I think they should rethink is their scoring. I don't really like the boxing style judging. But I understand it and respect it.
As for Urijah Faber, the guy is definitely a beast and a poster boy for conditioning. He is with WEC though which is a part of UFC. The only reason you dont see Faber on UFC is because of his weight class.
you have absoultely no concept whatsoever of what this sport is actually about, or the discipline, time and sweat that goes into it, yet you come here to harass people and disrupt constructive discussions with the same line of "duh duh duh i'm an MMA fan" or slandering other users. Not once have i seen you post anything remotely relative to any discussion.
To sum it up, you have no business being here, and your "opinions" are just your sad attempt at gaining attention. I suggest going outside.
Watch boxing, It's a real sport.

I'm not saying that boxing is not a real sport, but what makes MMA not a real sport?
Its a shame too because I really wanted to see Rumble win this fight, i love his explosive style and he absolutely decimated his previous opponent. Burns just got away with a cheap shot in this fight.
as far as the whole MMA vs Boxing safety issue:
I train both MMA and Boxing, and both have their similarites and differences in regards to stance and strikes. In an MMA fight, if a fighter goes down from a knockout, the fight is over. Now, there is no limit to how many punches the guy can take beforehand, but once he drops, its over. A fighter can drop in a boxing match, but if he's up by the count, the fight continues. A boxer cannot continue to strike a downed opponent in a boxing match. Theres really no right or wrong side of this. They are different sports with different rules. Therefore its tough to compare them fairly.
As for the people who are on these boards talking about how fighters are meatheads with some sick passion for beating people up, you clearly are naive to the sport, and i suggest you try training MMA for yourself. Mixed Martial Arts requires just as much discipline and conditioning as any other professional sport, if not more. These guys are athletes in every sense of the word, and until you are actually training yourself, you will not fully understand the hours and hours of hard work that goes into it.
Show them some respect. Find another forum if you don't like the sport. Stop posting.
The problem with the kimbo slice fight is he is not a good MMA fighter. Yes he has heavy hands, but you get him on the ground and hes utterly worthless. Even against an average fighter in Colossus he was struggling.
As far as the announcing for EliteXC, I think Frank Shamrock did fine, but I think the announcing was nothing great in general.
But it would be nice to see him fight again :)
