Chris Perez will be the closer this year, kinney will be healthy, and springer and franklin were still very good last year, as long as franklin wasnt closing.
Ludwick has a history of injuries, and last season he was unbelievably streaky.
Trade for Holliday, resign Looper, and pick up Demaso Marte (recently released by the Yankees).
The Cardinals dont need Peavy, especially if Carpenter comes back healthy and they resign Loop.
Also, Hollidays splits last year were pretty good considering he missed 20 games and played about 20 more while hurt:
Overall AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
Home 286 62 95 23 2 15 59 36 4 54 10 1 .332 .413 .584 .997
Away 253 45 78 15 0 10 29 38 4 50 18 1 .308 .405 .486 .891
Pretty straight up minus the RBI totals, which can be attributed more to the players around him than Holliday himself.
Subtract those two meaningless, effortless, TD and they have only allowed 17.2 PPG, moving them up 15 spots nationally. That's ahead of the likes of Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin just to name a few.
They always play with a lead (only trailing for 7 seconds this season), and generally that lead is LARGE so of course teams are throwing it non-stop. They also are near the bottom, if not at the bottom, in time of possession, the defense is on the field a lot due to the offenses super efficiency.
Also, Missouri has been pulling their first stringers at the start of the fourth quarter if not earlier for most of the games this season. They did the same thing last year, and once they got into Big 12 play they were one of the best defenses in conference, holding Texas Tech to 7 points.
Blaine Gabbert's been covered, i wont go there, just see the 15 posts on him that came before mine.
But how bout some love for Washington's QB Jake Locher, he was a top 25 recruit and that kid has it all, he just hasn't been able to avoid the injury bug here in his first two seasons. That, coupled with games like against BYU (the one where they got a BS celebration penalty and thus missed the Xtra point) have been the unfair bane of Willingham's tenure at Washington. Remember, Weis's good year at Notre Dame was with TWill's players.
Finally though, Gary Pinkel is not the kind of guy to cut and run for a more historic program (although you guys forget the fact that both Don Faurot and Dan Devine coached here, along with a plethora of now NFL head coaches coached under Warren Powers), Pinkel has a desire to be the Tom Osborne of Missouri, building a program that will last beyond his retirement at Missouri.
Also, about the recruiting, I sat with QB coach and director of recruting (and future offensive coordinator once Christensen gets a head job somewhere) David Yost at the recruiting wrap up dinner and he explained to all of us that just because Missouri is growing in national prominence and picking up more 4 and 5 star recruits doesn't mean the majority wont be three stars for years to come. Missouri has a far different system, and more thourough system of recruiting. It starts with coach Pinkel's strict rule of "no ****h0l3s," and focuses on athleticism and "It" factors. Also, did you know that the majority of those majorly recruited are within 20 miles of the airport, Coach Yost explained to us that the majority of recruiting reports are given to universities by scouting services such as Rivals.com that don't venture too far from major metro areas simply due to cost. Missouri ignores most of those recruiting services, lol.
Their style is working too, just look at two prospective top ten draft picks on the defensive side of the ball.
William Moore: barely a 3 star recruit from Hayti, MO, down in the bootheel
Sean Weatherspoon: 2 star recruit from Jasper, TX
but yeah the Cardinals don't need to spend a ton of cash on new players, just resign Looper, kill Scott Boras, allowing us to resign Lohse, resign Springer spranger, and add one or two solid relievers. In that order.

Okay.....that is pretty funny
************************************
agreed, but i still think your an athole.
And i dont know, but i'd imagine my boy TenRings wasn't too far off. If your going to ask a question like that you open yourself up to a question like this, why dont the Brewers and Mike Cameron untuck their shirts after losses?
*i meant to say religious people like the ones i go to school with who believe that if you dont go to mass on sunday's your going to hell and you have to tell the world about how great you are and show up on my doorstep and preach to me. Sorry if i didn't make that clear, i forget that not everyone goes to my highschool.
"And the funniest thing is that you think he does. Honestly? HONESTLY!?!?"
What if i were to say, "you think Matt Gamel is a future Gold Glover? Honestly? HONESTLY!?!?" Wouldnt that be mocking both you and the fact that your future 3B can't field as well as my niece, or even Ryan Braun?
Not on the same level, but they'e both mockery.
As a Cardinals fan, i fully understand the arguments about Pujols not running to first after a homer and it bothers me too but everyone does it these days. I can also tell you that Cardinal nation finds the shirt unucking thing as a pretty cool gesture, and that anything that may have been said, although i never even heard about it till now, was said out of ignorance and/or a lil bit of anger at themselves... and if you think about it, it does seem a lil bit cocky if you dont know the back story, especially if it's done on your home field.
Furthermore, Albert wasn't "talking smack" at first base, are you totally oblivious to the fact that in every game, every first basemen carries on conversations with those who reach first?
To the dude who must be an atheist or just a total sore loser and hates greatness, Albert Pujols is not the only baseball player who believes in God, although i'm sure you'd love to think that all the Brewers aren't religious at all (Jeff Suppan is Pro-Life and use to run ads about it on St. Louis TV) and all he's doing is offering up what he does to Christ. Does God care? Idk, but i dont come to your house and say "Hey ****hole, I hope you enjoy this meal and your remaining years that evidently mean nothing, have fun living your life wth no purpose :D"
Finally, all of you people that DON'T know what your talking about can STFU as well. Albert wasn't the only one, the umps heard it, the rest of the team heard it, and the Brewers heard it, otherwise their own manager wouldn't have agreed with Albert after the game. Villanueva is an idiot, the Cardinals could have easily taken 3 of the prior 5 games against the Brewers and getting out of that inning may have been the death blow to the whole season for the Birds, instead, who knows what happens now.
Lohse: 13-4 3.92 ERA
Wellemeyer: 10-4 3.79 ERA
Carpenter: 1.88 ERA
Looper: 11-9 4.07 ERA
Piniero: 5-5 4.82 ERA
Then theirs Wainwright coming back soon...
Which leads me to another point, why does no one acknowledge the fact the Cards have one of the best rotations in baseball. 4 starters sub 4 ERA when Wainwright returns and one good start for Looper makes it a full house.
