As an European soccer lover (Dutch) that is now living in LA, I am excited that David is on the Galaxy team. Of course he is over the hill (if he wasn't he would still be playing in Madrid or another top European team), but still has brilliant touches and fabulous moments and great soccer insight: his team members could learn a lot from him. Unfortunately, their talents are limnited and David and Landon cannot do it all alone. Galaxy needs mote talented players. Coach Gullit was not a good choice for Galaxy and set them back instead of improving the team (my humble opinion - I liekd Ruud as a plyer but not as a coach).

I agree with Blue's and some of the other statements. It is so easy and predictable to bash the MLS. It is not a retirement league for European players. It has much more quality than it is credited for. And goign to the games is a fun experience that you can do with your family and young kids... something you often cannot do in Europe. I love it and look forward to it growing and improving further. And players of Beckham;s stature will help that process.

Hi Coolmann, you're right about Kluivert. He has been struggling and injury plagued the last few years. He has not been able to perform at the highest levels. he very well could be permanently over the hill. My bad. Although I am sure that you have seen him flirting with Ajax, but I am sure that they will not bring him home. Regarding Davids, I have to admit that I had very high hopes when Edgar returned to Ajax after a few yeas with the Spurs, but I don't believe that he really has been able to make the huge positive impact that was expected of him. Ajax has continued to disappoint in the Champions League's early rounds and this year didn't even qualify. Not all Davids fault of course, but he has not been able to inspire the team to perform better (a true leader makes the players around him play better and that has not been Edgar's forte - in fact he has committed too many bad fouls and red cards (not a good example for younger players). Oh well, like you said, I am not an expert (and probably not as up-to-date as you are - although I am following Dutch and European "voetbal" on a daily basis) ... just still convinced that there are much better alternatives for MLS in general and Galaxy in particular to consider....

And if you want some old Dutch players that still have the technique, finesse and ability to add quality to the team (and like some have stated: teach the youngsters about international soccer), you could pursue the likes of Patrick Kluivert (who is looking for a new club), or perhaps even someone like Phillip Cocu (currently still playing for Al-Jazira Club in UAE, I believe - I am sure that he'd have ears to come to LA)

Being Dutch and being still very up to date on Dutch soccer, I would not recommend signing Davids. His career is really spiraling down and he doesn't have the ability anymore to compete at the highest levels. And being as competitive as he is this results in frustration and really horrible fouls that have resulted in several red cards in the English and Dutch soccer leagues in recent years. I sincerely hope that Galaxy passes on Davids. Unless they want to be a mediocre team... I don't think so. There are much better options out there....
