I don't think Real Madrid does itself any favors buying all of these big name players. Yes the jersey sales go up dramatically, especially if you buy a player of Ronaldo's quality, but I don't think there has been enough ball to go around for the players that are currently playing for Real Madrid. You need a balance, as Herb Brooks said in "Miracle": "I'm not looking for the best players...I'm looking for the right ones." Right now Real Madrid needs the right players to continue their success. If I remember correctly, Owen ended up sitting on the bench for most of his time with the club and then his fitness was questioned when he went to go play for the English National Team. That's not the right situation for any star player...who would Ronaldo edge out of a regular start?

Well, the Toronto Sun is now master of the obvious. All drafts depend on what happens with the teams that are able to pick ahead of you... The Leafs can anyone that can step in right away to help their cause for relevancy. A big defenseman or a quick scoring winger will definitely help right away.

Demitra will not be back with the Wild. He will probably want something in the 3.5/4 million guaranteed range and that is overpriced for a forward who has had some injury trouble recently. He might be a good fit in Columbus where they would pay anything for a potential center for Rick Nash.

The Redwings really don't need to add any forwards or defensemen. They are solid in all positions and why mess with the chemistry that brought you a cup? Any free agent star would have to take a major pay cut in order to be able to join the Wings. Sundin wouldn't add much and would only take up a roster spot for one of the younger Wings like Filipula or Hudler. On a side note: Chelios needs to hang them up. He might be an amazing athlete, but he is taking up a regular spot for some of the kids in Grand Rapids that are ready for more NHL action next year.

Sakic needs to make a decision soon. Players owe that to their teams, it could affect the entire draft and it definitely changes the free agent situation. Sakic has been great for 20 years, so I think it might be time for him to hang them up. I don't see the Avs challenging for the cup. I don't think Sakic can change his game, like Yzerman did in Detroit, to stick around in a more defensive/checking role. The Avs need to get their young players into 1st and 2nd line action now and Sakic would occupy a center spot on one of those two lines if he comes back. Forsberg needs to retire. I love his game, but his game has taken its toll on his body. I don't think he'd be much use to MoDo of the SEL, either.

Maybe Emery should go into boxing full time with Mike Tyson as his mentor...He could be a very good goalie in the NHL, but after a good year, his ego got to him and he thought he was entitled to the starting job. Things went south from there. The Blues might be able to use him, but I don't think he'd get along with Legace. The Blues can probably get him for next to nothing and then I would send him to the minors for a while to show him he isn't even entitled to regular NHL employment, regardless of how Toivonen performs in training camp (if he's resigned). Maybe that'll set him straight.
