As far as Brian Shaw goes, I don't think it's a bad idea to hire someone outside of the organization. After getting swept in the playoffs, it doesn't hurt to change up the status quo.
Offensively, someone like J.R. Smith would be great. But between his poor shot selection and bad defense, I don't know if he is the kind of player the Bulls want to bring in.
The Lakers actually have more than one scoring option on the team so I think Brown's offense will look a little better.
