Exactly, it's hit or miss with an NFL QB. It's virtually impossible to predict who will do well on the next level. Joe Montana was a 3rd round pick, Tom Brady a 6th round pick, Johnny Unitas went undrafted, Bart Starr was a 17th round pick, Roger Staubach was like a 9th round pick, Kurt Warner came from the Arena Football League.

Anyone that is saying this or that college QB will be a superstar or bust, probably doesn't know what he's saying. It is virtually impossible to predict success at the NFL level as a QB. If this was an exact science you wouldn't have guys like Ryan Leaf getting drafted as a number 2 pick.
Posted Monday November 17, 2008, About: Why Titans must re-sign Collins
To simply say that Collins is the only reason the Titans are 9-0 is intellectually dishonest. As someone said before, let's look at the parity in the AFC this year, coupled with the Titans strong defense and good line and running game. Collins is a game manager, period. I wouldn't call him an elite QB. VY needs another season on the bench, no doubt about that.

I have to say one thing about this board compared to the ESPN boards are that most of the posters here tend to be more educated, older, and more worldly, as you can tell from the quality of their posts, whereas ESPN is the MTV of sports, littered with way too many s--t heads.

Keep it up guys, keep it up! This is great stuff for my research paper! I'm bound to get an "A" in sociology 101 by using your opinions on this board. It's too bad profanity is censored here, or else the entire unmitigated truth comes to light.

We have whites here that thinks blacks are intellectually inferior and are only good at physical activities like sports and labor, and then we have blacks here that thinks whites are more prone to pedophilia and random bursts of great violence, such as school shootings or activities like Timothy Mcveigh.

As a 2nd year student from UCLA, I have to sincerely thank everyone on this board for expressing their honest and truthful views on race relations in America. I'm doing a research paper in Sociology 101 and looking at the racial dynamics of this country. This country is still too racially polarized for any sense of unity.

On the internet, under the guise of anonymity, the "truth" comes out from both blacks and whites. This is good stuff.

Hey guys, I'm in my 2nd year at UCLA and have to do a research paper in Sociology 101, this board just provided most of the stuff I'm about to write about. Keep it up guys!
Posted Monday July 21, 2008, About: Giants: We deserve more respect
It's kind of funny that Pats fans are mostly the ones calling the Giants flukes and said that the Giants cheated in the SB and that they don't deserve the trophy. Isn't this ironic for a team known for the Tuck Rule and Spygate? And aren't the Pats a team that got lucky against the Rams that year in SB 36?
Posted Tuesday July 15, 2008, About: Why Favre is mad at Packers
Can someone here tell me this? Why is it that on every board and thread involving another team like the giants, Packers, Cowboys, 49ers, Colts, Bears or any NFL team, legions of idiot Pats fans just ruin every thread.
Posted Tuesday July 15, 2008, About: Why Favre is mad at Packers
I've noticed that a lot of these so called Packer fans just registered on this board today. Which is probably Pats fans having another account.

As for him having 1 SB in 17 years, tell that to Marino, or Fouts, or Kelly, or Tarkenton, and many other HOF QBs not winning one. As Tarkenton once said, QBs don't win SBs, teams do.
Posted Tuesday July 15, 2008, About: Manning may miss '08 opener
Like I've said. Every NFL thread is ruined by an idiot Pats fan. At least Manning never had a tuck rule to bail him out of a loss.
Posted Saturday July 12, 2008, About: Sources: Favre reneged on return deal
This reminds me of when the 49ers told Joe Montana to back up Steve Young and Montana requested a trade or be released, well except Rodgers ain't no Steve Young.

And 1 game doesn't make you a 'great' QB, since people keep on referring to the Cowboys game. Rodgers was hurt so many times and as the backup at that. The guy probably can't even play a full 16 game schedule.
Posted Wednesday July 09, 2008, About: Favre-Packers spat to heat up
As a Packs fan, I thought it was time for Favre to leave and give AR a shot, but after reading some of the comments here, HOF QBs that can still produce at a high level are rare. The Dolphins are still trying to replace Marino, Denver is still trying to replace Elway (sorry I'm not sold on Cutler yet), It took the Chargers about 15 years to replace Fouts, It took the Steelers almost 20 years to replace Bradshaw with a good QB, And it took the Colts about 25 years to replace Unitas, the point is that it's very hard to replace a HOF QB.

As for people saying that AR had a great college career and will do good, take a look at guys like Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Dan McGuire, Andre Ware, Tim Couch, Joey Harrington, Todd Marinovich, these guys all had great college careers and top 20 picks, and all of them have been busts.
Posted Tuesday July 08, 2008, About: Steelers ownership in turmoil
It seems like every NFL thread gets ruin by obnoxious Pats fans.

I hope the Steelers franchise continues to be owned by the Rooney Family. They have done a lot for the NFL.
Posted Tuesday July 08, 2008, About: Did Welker rip former Patriot teammate?
Montana beat Landry's Cowboys, Gibbs Redskins, Parcell's Giants, Ditka's Bears, these are all great teams with HOFers galore. Which Montana did beat in his first 7 years. That is much more impressive than the parity era. And Jack Lambert, Mike Singletary, Lawrence Taylor, Ronnie Lott, weren't know as cheap hitters but intense take no holds barred football players. All of them had dominating defenses. The NFC won 13 or 14 straight SBs well into the late 90s, that's how good the NFC was back then. No serious football fan would compare today's teams to those teams. The competition and level of play was much tougher and intense.

Hey New England fans, Brady had Moss and Welker who were on the 1st and 2nd team All pro. Montana never had 2 All pro recievers on his roster at the same time, since everyone wants to talk about receivers. All pro is different than just a regular pro bowl, meaning that they are the best of the best. And that's what Brady had, not to mention a great running game in Maroney and Faulk and good receivers in Jabbar Gafney and Donte Stallworth. Montana never had 4 receivers of that caliber in his career.

And his offense was rated no. 1 in NFL history, but managed only 14 points way below their average. Brady's defense only gave up 17 points, which is below NY Giants regular and playoff averages. So yes the Defense did their job. They did it very well. New England fans didn't say the defense failed when New England's SB 38 team against the Panthers gave up a whopping 28 pts and New England won by producing 31 pts? It was NE inability to score which is the problem in SB 42. 14 points for the greatest offense of all time? How could that be with multiple pro bowlers on that offensive line? How could that be with a great running game and 2 all pro receivers in Welker and Moss? How could that be when New England fans proclaimed Brady and Moss the greatest QB and WR of all time?

But of course to New England fans it was the defense's fault that lost that game even though they managed to hold the Giants to 17 pts way below their regular and playoff averages, whereas the offense managed to score only 14 points which is way below their regular and playoff averages? So it was the defense's fault?
Posted Tuesday July 08, 2008, About: Did Welker rip former Patriot teammate?
Here this is the reality for New England fans. When Brady had his top core receivers he still came up short. Montana never came up short in the Super Bowl. You can spin it around all you want. But Brady had his chance with 3 timeouts and 35 seconds left. And Montana played in a hardcore era of NFL football. There's no debate that Montana's era was brutal. There weren't quick whistles to protect him from hits. Guys like Ronnie Lott, Mike Singletary, Jack Lambert, Bruce Smith, Lawrence Taylor couldn't play in today's NFL, not because they weren't good, but because of the brutal sytle of play compared to today's NFL that protects the offense so much. Those guys would be banned from the league. ANd Brady's defense did do their job. Holding the NFC champs to 17 pts. It's the so called greatest offense in NFL history that came up short. Nice try in trying to spin that around New England fans.

AND LET ME REPEAT THIS AGAIN. MONTANA WON 2 SBS WITHOUT JERRY RICE. SO DON'T USE THE ARGUMENT THAT MONTANA WON WITH ONLY RICE.
Posted Tuesday July 08, 2008, About: Did Welker rip former Patriot teammate?
@Souts
Oh it wasn't 45 secs but 35 secs left when the Pats took over and receive the ball. So I was wrong about that one in SB 42. A minor mistake. But not as major as when you stated that Montana won all his SBs with Rice. Montana took 10 yrs to win 3, but his level of competition was much higher. The Ditka Bears, Gibb's Redskins, Landry's Cowboys, Parcell's Giants, all seriously great teams and possibly those teams would have been dynasty in the 80s if it were not for the 49ers.

Remember this, nothing is a sure thing in the NFL. We don't know if the Pats will be able to get back to the SB, we don't know if Brady will get an serious injury, we don't know what the future holds. Kind of like SB 42. It's unpredictable. You can predict this or that, it doesn't mean it will happen. Most fans outside of the NE states will not say Brady is the greatest to step on the gridiron especially the parity, less physical era of todays.

Montana to Brady comparisons. Montana blew out 2 teams in the SB, and won one from behind. Brady's teams won all 3 by a total of 9 pts . Montana is undefeated in the big game, Brady is 3-1. Brady never led a team from behind to win the SB in the final 2 mins, even Eli has done that!

Let's compare them to their time. Montana: 7 times All Pro. Brady: 2 times All pro in 00s. Montana: 3 SB MVPs . Brady: 2x sb mvp. Montana: 2x NFL MVP Brady: 1x MVP. Montana led the NFC in QB rating 5 times. Brady led the AFC in QB rating 1 time. And most of Montana's achievements were in his prime which is the 80s.

Brady still has a ways to go. And when Brady can lead a mediocre offensive team like the Chiefs at age 38 to the AFC championship game when he's past his prime and near his playing days then maybe he might just be better than Montana.

Brady better than Montana, almost as bad when Pats fans say Randy Moss is better than Jerry Rice.

@Souts12:

When Pats fans say that Brady is the greatest ever to step on the gridiron, now you're opening up a very large can of worms. He just can't be compared to Manning now or his contemporaries, but to Montana, Unitas, Bradshaw, Elway, etc. Because the word 'greatest' denotes that every QB of all eras is inferior to Brady. So now he has to be compared to Montana or Unitas, which many have said are the top 2 at the QB position. Those 2 are considered the gold standard. Premerger for Unitas, Postmerger for Montana.

But we'll go with Montana since he is considered by many (except Pats fans) to be the greatest of the post merger era. Montana's record is 4-0 in the SB. Brady 3-1. Montana never threw an interception in the SB, while Brady has. Montana's rating in the SB? 127.8. And here's another thing, his team were down in points and needed to score to win and he won with his arm, whereas Brady's team was tied and he need to drive into FG range for Vinateiri to win it with his foot. Which isn't as glorious as Montana. And the last SB with his team down by 3 with 45 secs left with 3 timeouts Brady faltered. Not to mention Montana had the greatest QB rating in the regular season until it was broken by other QBs. He still holds many postseason playoff records today, TDs, passing yardage, QB rating, etc. And most of Montana's SB records have since been broken, but none by the so called greatest QB named Brady. And I haven't really touch the regular season comparison of the 2 which Montana still beats Brady in most categories. Of course Brady is still very good and a surefire HOFamer but he's no Montana. Like I've said it's like Lakers fans saying Kobe is better than Michael Jordan.

Nothing more than a rumor as far as Im concern. And soxwin07, at least this guy gives it his all on the field unlike Moss who says, 'i play when I wanna play' and walks off the field with 4 secs left in the game while cashing a 9 million dollar check.

You see this is the difference between Pats fans and fans of the other 31 franchises, the fans of the other 31 teams recognized that the Giants are SB 42 Champs and deserved that win. They had a great playoff run, made all the key plays and deserved that Lombardi trophy. To even say that SB was handed to them, is really petty and low.

I can say the Rams handed the Pats the Lombardi trophy and so did the Panthers and so did the Eagles. The Giants were not ony the better team in that game but all NFC playoff games they played. To suggest their victories were handed to them is moronic.

@Souts

There are actually a lot of very knowledgeable fans on here, that's why I sign on. And you're not one of them when you proclaimed that Montana had Rice his whole career. He had already won 2 SBs without Rice and had established himself as a Legend already. Rice was drafted in '85, the 49ers won SBs in '81 and '84. . Not to mention his era was way tougher and more physical to play in. When Cornerbacks didn't play with non physical contact in covering wideouts like they do today. And Montana didn't have Tuck Rules bailing him out in a loss. As much as I disliked Al Davis and the Raiders organization, that call was easily one of the worst in NFL history.

And Clark was an average wideout that Montana made his career with the 'catch'. He would be comparable to Branch and Givens. He's definitely no Rice or an Hall of famer.

Pats fans Saying that Tom Brady is the greatest QB and better than Montana is the equivalent of Lakers fans saying that Kobe Bryant is the best and better player than Michael Jordan. Ridiculous and plain laughable.
