Posted Wednesday October 21, 2009, About: Mattingly talking to two teams
I can't believe Houston isn't talking to him! Then again, he's not one of Ed Wade or Drayton McClane's good-ole-boys. I'm 99% sure they will go with somebody previously linked to the Astros (many of their candidates coached or manager in their minors of pro team) or linked to Ed Wade's old Phillies. Too bad they couldn't "look outside the box".
Posted Wednesday October 21, 2009, About: Tressel sending Pryor message?
In my opinion, he looks like he panics a lot. The look of desperation has gotten worse with each game this season. I think it REALLY hurts that they do not have a big back with Beanie gone. Also, their #1 receiver, Posey, appears to drop a lot of balls that maybe he should catch. He does make a few spectacular catches here and there, though. From what I've seen this year, they should be using Duron Carter more. I think if Pryor just relaxed, didn't worry about trying to be a star, quit panicking, then he would be perfectly fine. However, I'm not sure if that will happen, unfortunately.
Posted Thursday October 01, 2009, About: Smoltz blames baseballs for walk-a-thon
He's probably walking more people because he's not getting the generous strike zone that he, Maddux, and Glavine used to get with the Braves.
Posted Tuesday September 29, 2009, About: Tressel: Big Ten used 'poor judgment'
Watching the clip doesn't really show the punch. A lot of the replays shown during the game really showed how he pulled his arm back and fully extended it in a punch, so I don't think people are going to quite get the gist of it from the clip, unfortunately.
Posted Tuesday September 29, 2009, About: Tressel: Big Ten used 'poor judgment'
Also, don't forget after who threw down Pryor, he took a full swing punch at the OSU player who blocked the bench. Granted, the guy didn't make contact, which made him look like a complete idiot, but he swung his arm back, and punched straight forward at the OSU player. NOTHING has been mentioned about this at all. I have been waiting for a suspension on that guy.
Posted Tuesday September 22, 2009, About: Cooper burned bridges with Astros
Drayton is going to feel the wrath of Bud Selig. Cooper was essentially Bud's hiring. As an Astros fan, I understand that the players are not good enough, but Cooper was a HORRIBLE manager who made so many questionable decisions, horribly misused the pitching staff, communicated with the players only through the media, showed no emotion even when "arguing" a call, etc.

I'm glad he's gone. I'm just not getting my hopes up that the next hiring will be any good. Ever since Drayton essentially forced out Gerry Hunsicker (GM now with Tampa) and Larry Dierker (manager), things have not gone so great.

Oh, it was also discouraging to hear Ed Wade last night say that they wouldn't play the call-ups much now because it is a time to show respect to the veterans. Spring training is the time to evaluate the youngsters. What?!!? They aren't playing for anything, so you're going to keep sending out the old guys every day.
Posted Tuesday September 22, 2009, About: Five teams on Sheffield's radar?
As an Astros fan, there is NO way I would want him on the team. It's bad enough that they've been having trouble playing at a good quality. The last thing they need is someone with a bad attitude. Although, if he could play second base, he and Matsui could try to coordinate their stints on the DL and swap back and forth (just kidding --- do NOT want him on the team)!!
Posted Monday September 21, 2009, About: Why Nolan may leave Rangers
Maybe the new owner won't want him. Then a miracle will occur --- Drayton McClane will realize he should sell the Astros, and Nolan's group will purchase the Astros. After all, they are part owners of two of their minor league teams.

(Yes, I know this will not happen. It's good to be able to dream a little.)
Posted Monday September 14, 2009, About: Tejada denies stealing signs
I remember how upset the Pirates were a couple years ago when Tony LaRussa accused them of stealing signs from the Cardinals. They thought it was terrible that someone accuse them of stealing signs, but that is what Matt Capps is now doing.

It just seems like the majority of baseball players today have become very whiney. "They're stealing signs", "That pitcher is throwing inside", etc.
Posted Friday September 04, 2009, About: Why Wright ditched protective helmet
Maybe if he got one of the old, old helmets. Craig Biggio never adopted the newer helmets, because he felt they didn't offer nearly enough protection. He said that after being hit in the head several times, he was not going to take a chance. Plenty of people DID call him the Great Gazoo, but I guess safety was the most important thing to him, as it should be.

Guess you never heard of the "rumor" about RichRod and the WVU cheerleader.
Posted Wednesday August 05, 2009, About: Irate Fielder charges Dodgers clubhouse
What's even funnier than him charging the clubhouse is watching him run the bases. I've never seen a set of moobs (manboobs) bounce that much in my life!
Posted Tuesday July 14, 2009, About: Next manager to be fired..?
I would like to see him manage the Astros -- as long as he replaces the bench coach and 3rd base coach. I'd be curious to see how many games Dave Clark (3rd base) has lost the team. It's bad enough watching the manager make terrible decisions, but it's even worse to watch the 3rd base coach mess up so much.
Posted Friday July 10, 2009, About: Irish eyeing ex-OSU commit
So, is someone called a commit when they say they are going to a school, even if the school never made an offer?
Posted Tuesday July 07, 2009, About: Braun's comments upset Brewers GM
How many times have the Brewers' pitchers ever called out Braun in the media for losing runs with his horrendous defense? If they haven't, then maybe Braun should keep his opinions to himself, or at least not air them to the media/public.
Posted Tuesday June 16, 2009, About: Mets in market for big stick?
Carlos Lee has a no-trade clause and has said many times that there is absolutely no way he will agree to a trade. He has a ranch in Texas. Plus, NY fans would crush him on his defensive "skills". Why would he want to deal with that?

He has a full no-trade clause through the end of next year's season. After that, he has a limited no-trade clause for the remaining 2 years.
Posted Friday May 29, 2009, About: Paterno not only Big Ten coach eyeing Rutgers
I can't help but laugh every time I see this picture. It's not because of the cowboy behind him, either. He looks SO much like a male cheerleader in this picture. The male cheerleader pose of one hand on a hip (photo cut off, but I still picture this) and the other hand in the air making a fist. So cheerleadery.

"Uh, I just threw up in my mouth." ---- Where else are you going to throw up?
Posted Thursday May 07, 2009, About: Terrell Pryor: Michigan players e-mail me
I wouldn't doubt it, considering the UM coaches were heckling him on the sidelines last year about running out of bounds. His next running play to that side of the field, he knocked a UM defender on his **** and smiled at the coaches. Pretty funny.
Posted Tuesday February 10, 2009, About: Astros planning to sign Dunn
Glad to hear Ed Wade discount this rumor. It's good to know I won't have to endure watching Lee and Dunn playing defense in the outfield together!
Posted Monday February 09, 2009, About: Astros planning to sign Dunn
I'm an Astros fan, and I cringe at the thought of both Dunn and Lee in the outfield together. Offensively, they will be great together --- defensively, not so much. I thought there was a zero chance (and zero need) of them signing Dunn once they had signed Carlos Lee. Dunn will take a HUGE discount over any other team to sign with Houston. He is from the area and has said multiple times through his career that he wants to play for them. I'm assuming the hometown discount would be huge for Houston to spend money on Dunn rather than pitching.

I'm guessing Mangino would have an easy time holding his own against Weis in an eating competition.
