What a steal for the Royals
Posted Saturday September 06, 2008, About: K-Rod might stay with Angels
The HGH contract has to be one of the worst ever. At least Beltre plays good defense and gets around 20 or more home runs and drives in runs. HGH is pretty much a way overpaid back up outfield.
As far as choosing between Frankie and Tex, I would take Tex over Frankie and try to sign Fuentes and let Garland walk.
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Vlad's future as Angel uncertain
I hope the Angels resign Vlad to an extension, but I won't be surprised if they don't. K-Rod is gone and will be replaced with Shields and or Arredondo. Tex is 50/50.
Posted Tuesday July 22, 2008, About: Braves trading Teixeira to Angels?
Oswald 12-Figgins came in a trade with the Rockies. I have to agree with you that Kendrick has been pretty much as advertised and seems to be a star in the making except that he seems to be injury prone. As far as Kotchman and Aybar go they have been good players, however, they like Kendrick are injury prone and are average offensively for their positions.

As an Angels fan, I am just frustrated that it seems like the organization can't produce anyone that can hit for power on the big league roster. I heard the hype about Jeff Mathis and his plus offense for a catcher when he was in the minors. Looks at him now. I also heard the hype about Dallas McPherson and how he was supposed to replace Troy Glaus. He is still in the minors, but now with the Marlins. I heard how great Kendry Morales was supposed to be and though you can argue he hasn't been given enough of a chance, when he was up a few years back you expected him to do good after all the hype over him. I just hope Brandon Wood doesn't end up to be another disappointment. His high strikeout rate in the minors suggests that he may end up nothing more than a Russell Branyon type of player at the big league level.

No way Atlanta would ask for that little unless they are seeing something the Angels don't. Quinlan has proven to only be a replacement level reserve 1B, 3B, or corner outfielder while Wood hasn't proven that he can hit big league pitching and seems to be another one of the over hyped Angels non-pitching prospects destined to disappoint. Atlanta would be better off taking the draft picks after Tex walks.
Posted Wednesday July 16, 2008, About: Angels take Rivera off market
I don't think it would be smart to trade Rivera because they wouldn't get their full value since he hasn't played much thisl season. I say resign him for next year cheap, save some money for other free agent signings and have him DH and play right field next year to relieve Vladdy. If not for that injury last year and GMJ's awful contract, he would have more playing time and good numbers this year.

It was Ruben Rivera who stole (I believe it was Jeter's stuff) when he was with the Yankees.
Posted Wednesday July 16, 2008, About: K-Rod to shop free-agent market
I don't think the Angels are going to waste 15 million or so a year on K-Rod long-term since they have Shields and Arredondo to potentially close. The money would be better spent on a hitter since the Angels have lacked any type of threatening offense for years now. Buyer beware though! Anyone that watches K-Rod regularly knows that his saves are always nail-biters since he has a tendency to walk a lot of batters due to his wild delivery. Another concern is that his K's are down this year and his velocity has been down.

Too bad Omar didn't want GMJ instead. lol
Posted Wednesday July 16, 2008, About: Why Rangers won't trade Bradley
The Rangers should trade him if a good deal comes along because they don't have the pitching to contend. With Bradley's past problems though he may not fetch enough for the Rangers to move him.
Posted Saturday July 12, 2008, About: Dodgers GM's future in doubt
The Dodgers need to and probably will get rid of Colletti by the end of the season. Just too many bad signings.
Posted Saturday July 12, 2008, About: Angels hurler may miss '09 opener
I wonder if this will force the Angels to re-sign Garland at the end of the year.
Posted Friday July 11, 2008, About: Angels bench slumping Matthews
I agree that the signing was largely made to try and appease the fans that were getting on the organization for not acquiring a big bat, but to give so much money to a journeyman player that just had 1 good year in his 30s is a big mistake.
Posted Thursday July 10, 2008, About: Rockies star on Angels' list
Matt Holliday is not the answer considering the Angels already have 5 outfielders including 3 (Hunter, GMJ, GA) which are way overpaid. They would have to bench GA which I don't see them doing considering that they are already benching GMJ. I am also not entirely confident that he would be able to replicate his Colorado numbers in the more neutral pitching/hitting environment of the Big A. They are better off sticking with Juan Rivera.
Posted Thursday July 10, 2008, About: Angels bench slumping Matthews
As an Angels fan I tried to convince myself that he would somehow be able to hit at least .290 with a .450 slugging % and okay on base % with the Angels, but I knew that in reality he would not come even remotely close to his production in Texas. It's true that HGH likely played a huge role in his career year in 2006, however, playing half his games in hitter friendly Texas obviously was a big factor too. Now the Angels are stuck paying a late inning defensive replacement in the outfield All Star money.

Sure, we will give you Gary Matthews and all of his contract in return : )
Posted Monday June 16, 2008, About: Angels considering trades
I don't miss Kennedy and Erstad from a production standpoint since their best days are well behind them although out of the bunch Eckstein and Glaus would be okay if their contract demands were reasonable. I do miss Molina's offense and leadership and still think that was a dumb move letting go of him.
Posted Monday June 16, 2008, About: Angels considering trades
Of course upper management has invested a ton of money into GA and Matthews, so it is likely that we will see more of the same with Matthews and GA getting the bulk of the playing time unless they get injured.
Posted Monday June 16, 2008, About: Angels considering trades
The offensive problem does not lie with Scioscia, but instead the bad contracts that upper management signed with a post juice Gary Matthews, GA (though no one knew that he would turn into an injury prone player), and more recently Torii Hunter although the former 2 players are the bigger problem. Though Matthews provides good defense and has been hitting better recently, he is really nothing more than a .260 hitter (except for that outlier in 2006) with little power while GA hasn't really been the same since 2003. I say give Willits and Rivera a chance!

It's just best to leave politics and religion out of truth and rumors.
Posted Saturday April 19, 2008, About: Hamstring sidelines hot Kendrick
I just hope Kendrick doesn't end up like Dallas McPherson.
If Melky Cabrera played in the West Coast, he wouldn't have been raved about. He's just average right now, but I think he can improve. Pedroia on the other hand is a pretty solid player. I still think the Dodgers though probably have the best stack of young players with Ethier, Broxton and especially Kemp and Loney. If Kemp played for the Red Sox or Yankees, people would be calling him the next Ken Griffey Jr. with Broxton getting the attention that Joba does.
