Yeah, I guess you could see it as a low-risk, high reward move, but then you think about guys like Bartolo Colon, Scott Williamson, Wade Miller... all the same kind of player, and none of them panned out. I'd rather see Michael Bowden or Justin Masterson pitching in the fifth slot, not another injury prone former Marlin pitching .500 ball in the AL East.

I didn't really care about this until he made that comment about "I got shot in the head by my own guys in my foxhole. And they didn't even give me an honorable death." I'm not sure how being paid $21 million to do absolutely nothing is analagous to being in a foxhole, but thanks for trivialising the deeds of people who have actually done something in service to their nation. Marbury can't even do something in service to his team.

Leave Andy alone; at least he owned up to his mistake, unlike Roger Clemens, who was a phony about his career (steroids!), his retirement (real classy, taking the Hummer from the Yankees' as a retirement gift, and then signing with the Astros), and his marriage (that whole affair with the country singer). Oh, and taking $28 million more dollars to win six games, what a class act.

Andy's gone out there, and pitched, owned up to his mistakes on and off the field, and has generally, from what I can tell, been a good pitcher and a good teammate. Just more vapid trash from the Post.

I'd imagine they're running up the price. The Red Sox have already announced they are not increasing ticket prices... I'd say they're going to keep the same payroll or decrease it (which is why they've focused more on internal options instead of trades in recent years). Yeah, the Sox already have one former Marlin, but A.J. is injury prone, and not worth the contract the Yankees are going to throw at him.

I have a feeling the trade with Crisp may be the biggest move the Sox make this offseason... Michael Bowden or Justin Masterson would do just fine in the 5th slot.

Tex might have slightly better statistics, but Youkilis can play two positions, has improved his average and power every year, and will cost the Red Sox $17 million less next year. Just because the Red Sox CAN spend doesn't mean they will... the owners' deciding not to raise ticket prices wasn't an early Christmas present for the fans, it was recognizing the current state of the economy. Same goes for the payroll... don't be surprised if it's a pretty quiet offseason for Boston.

Beckett, Lester and Matsuzaka can all win 15 games if they stay healthy, Wakefield is a bargain at $4 million a year, and either Michael Bowden or Justin Masterson would be a decent choice for a fifth starter, if Byrd isn't under contract for next year. No need to jump for this guy, let the Yankees overpay for the next Kei Igawa.

During the 2007 season, Manny hit only 20 homers in almost 500 at bats... if I was GM of any AL team, I'd take a more serious look at Teixera than Manny, considering their ages and salaries.

We have Wakefield and Masterson behind the big three, so I don't think he'd be worth the money. He was one of my favorite pitchers while he played for Boston, but I don't think he's got AL stuff.

Red Sox have Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester, Wakefield and Masterson, as well as possibly re-signing Byrd. I don't see them signing Lowe; he's older, been in a weak division, and is probably looking for more than the Sox are willing to pay.

I can see the Cards getting him, they grabbed Pineiro and got some use out of him, I'm sure he could win 15+ games in St. Louis.
