Melanie Fitzpatrick
Kim Cloutier

Explain to me why he's allowed to run a club again.
In the NHL, the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins HATED each other (and they still do). They would never deal with each other. Each owner always accused each other of shenanigans. Fans spat on each others graves.
And then in the late 90's, Pittsburgh traded their superstar, Jamior Jagr, to Washington.
They "mysteriously" managed to agree to put aside their hate for a short period of time.
Now, that said, while Hauptman may have a "don't talk to New York" ultimatum issued to his front office, I highly doubt this will affect any future personnel movement.
Speaking as an American soccer fan: Eerrrrr... okay?
That said, isn't it about time for someone to break the trend?
(I hope you just now didn't notice I'm a DC United fan)
Now the FMF may finally get a real coach... which will sadden me. :P
:-D
Forget boredom. MONEY TALKS.
Why is Becks here early? MONEY.
Why will Henry be here early? MONEY.
There is a reason why there's DP rule.
And what's up with the choke slam thing?
This rumor has been out there for about 3 weeks now. Only, 3 weeks ago, it was rumored that Henry would not come until Seattle's second season. Now it looks like Seattle will get him right away in '09, which would be a real coup.
I hate to do this, but look back at Beckham. Everyone knew he was going to the MLS. But everyone expected Becks to wait until he was 36 or 37. But he came here early.
Henry is doing the exact same thing. And it's going to make A LOT of Europeans mad again.
I love it. One day (we can only dream), these guys will be coming even earlier, in the middle of their prime.
Give him a break.
I'd say that's a mighty fine schedule.
But here's the thing: You squad must be absurdly talented. A mediocre team can play bunker ball with high levels of success (see: Any MLS, A-League, J-League and K-League teams who have had success over top flight Euro teams in recent years). The goal in the possession game is to beat the opposing team into submission with possession football in the offensive third. You don't need to shoot, just run their defenders ragged.
Unfortunately for Gullit, his version of "Sexy Football" will be god awful as his LA squad doesn't have the skill for it. When a possession team loses the ball, they heavily rely on skilled central defenders to bail them out, something LA has absolutely nothing of. Gullit's squad will likely see themselves on the wrong side of a lot of 4-3 games.
In the words of my generation, "Get over it."
Johnnyrunner made a great great great analogy, however, I don't think it'll be for LA.
More likely for Chivas. Becks will probably be the bailout for a struggling ownership, whether that's Chivas or Kansas City. I HIGHLY doubt he'll be awarded an expansion side unless he's a part of a bigger ownership group.
2) Not going to happen for a while, but isn't this the goal of any sports league?
3) This will only happen once the MLS loses its single entity structure. BUT the MLS has yet to make a profit yet, while SUM is making a huge profit with multiple soccer properties. Until the MLS can stand on it's own two feet (which we all hope is soon), it'll have to be run by SUM.
As for adding foreign players being a detriment to the MLS, let's think about why it has to be done: The quality of American players that are not on the top tier is very low. How do you improve this? It's a two fold solution: 1) Train them when they younger and 2) Train them with already established talent. All the established American talent play overseas. So who are you going to use? The next best thing: People who actually want to play in the MLS.
Guevara was one of those who originally thought the MLS was a cakewalk, and then became badly mistaken. When he finally realized what he had gotten into, it was too late. This ended up putting a black mark on his career and he wasn't able to get into any league but the Honduran league.
Hopefully this time around he'll take it seriously.
Have other teams caught up enough to give Mexico a challenge? Yes. But have they caught up enough to knock them off the CONCACAF pedestal? Not even close. England is down and out, Mexico is on top, despite the behest of the United States (who is no pushover in their own right). Mexico is still waaaay on top talent wise as well.
Mexico just needs a coach who doesn't believe in "the perfect race," and one who will make actual tactical decisions based on his personnel and not what worked 20 years ago. Hugo is getting too much credit for the Copa America run. He is squandering more games with more talent than anyone in a FIFA regulated country.
This team has been dubbed "The Golden Generation." Only two of the supposed 15 "great young Mexican" players are over in Europe (because their teams wouldn't let them go).
This was a youth all star team. Mexico not only should have won their group, they should have dominated the group.
Sanchez's reign as coach will soon be over if the senior team loses its friendly at the end of the month.
