As for Hawkins & Holley, honestly, I felt Hawkins showed more production week in and out on the show. He was an excellent special teams player as both a gunner & a return man and had very sure-handed tackling skills, especially for an extremely undersized player. Holley is a Larry Fitzgerald type and I believe once Jones was out of the competition (clearly one of Irvin's favorites), it was going to come down to what they wanted: size or speed. Holley has the potential to make the roster as a WR but I don't think he'll make enough impact as a special teams player to keep a spot.
In the end, had the Cowboys not invested in Austin Miles & Isiah Stanbeck, and had they not had the 3-headed RB beast, I think Hawkins would have won. Hawkisn special teams production is replicated by Felix Jones so that was a wash for the coaching staff to think of. But still, look at Wes Welker, Maurice Jones-Drew & Darren Sproles are accomplishing on the field. Their small size allows them to cut up the defense underneath.
Sharpe is the prototype for every TE you see on the field nowadays: amazing athlete who catches like a WR but blocks like a FB/o-linemen. As for Carter, he is only behind Jerry Rice in almost every single receiving statistic in the record books. For him to not get a spot is downright a slap in the face at everything the man stood for. Derrick Thomas, yes he was a pass rushing monster, but as far as run coverage & pass coverage, he was marginal, at best, but had the athleticism to overcome his positioning. I think him passing away prematurely also helped his chances. As for McDaniel, no offense to the man, but I don't think he is HOF worthy. Lineman have to be something truly special to make it into the HOF, and I feel McDaniel belongs in the Hall of Very Good. If you think McDaniel belongs in the same breath as future HOF'ers Larry Allen, Jonathan Odgen, Walter Jones, etc then you are truely mistaken.
