QUOTE(#3):Originally posted 10:51 AM ET 11.20 by hopyankees Ibanez or Abreu will end up with the Cubs because they need a productive left handed OF bat. No way Ibanez goes to the Phillies. They need a righty to take Burrell's spot, and Bruntlett is certainly not the answer. Juan Rivera and Rocco Baldelli are FA's...not sure who else is on the trade block.

Manny

Right...but I was referring only to those FA's that Philly would consider. No chance of Manny being the Phillies left fielder in 2009.
Posted Thursday November 20, 2008, About: Boston to bid on Burnett
Boston can have Burnett...way too fragile for anything more than 2 years. Hopefully (yeah, right) the Yankees have learned from their past experiences...Pavano, Wright, Brown, I could keep going.

Come on...suddenly the Royals are relevant? Signing Swisher helps at both 1B and OF, so there are plenty of outfielders already. Focus on pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
Posted Thursday November 20, 2008, About: Yankees may pursue Pettitte
Go for it...one year deal in the $10-12 million range. Even with last year's performance, having Pettitte as your 4th or 5th starter isn't too shabby.

Sorry...just saw post #6. Apologies for the redundancy.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Did Gold Glove ruin Rangers' plans for Young?
Why not bring up the new guy to play 2B? Kinsler can move to 3B, and Young can stay at SS for a couple of years until the new guy has proven he can hit big league pitching. Seems simple to me...why make a big deal out of this?
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Burrell hasn't heard from Phillies
Pat, thanks for your years of service but it's time to go to the AL and DH. That way they won't take you out of the game in the 7th inning for defensive purposes...replacing you with a utility infielder.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Pettitte covering his bases
This is just a formality. Plus, since Pettitte has gone on record that he wants to play only for the Yankees, what's the rush? Cashman stated last week that he wants Pettitte to come back. There simply are bigger concerns that are consuming Cashman's time. This deal will get done, just not for a while. If Pettitte starts pouting again and whining about feeling unwanted (which prompted him to sign with Houston), then so be it. But I really believe he will be back in the Bronx in 2009.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Cardinals: Holliday deal dead
Phillies should go after Holliday instead of Burrell or Manny.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Can Pettitte wind up a Ranger?
No way this happens. He will either be back in the Bronx or he will retire. I'm hoping he comes back for one year plus a team option.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Dodgers losing ground in Manny sweepstakes
Baseballfan2008: I don't think so. Peavy won't be traded to a division rival. Schmidt is done. Jones is done.

Also, if Cano would be traded, I'd rather get Loney in return.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Yankees interested in Boras clients
Lowe is a gamer, but I'd rather have Perez. Younger, left-handed, more upside.
Posted Thursday November 06, 2008, About: Pay cut for Pettitte
Each should be offered a 1 year deal ($10-11 million range) with a team option. Given age (Mussina) and 2008 results (Pettitte), they shouldn't expect much more, especially when they are team guys who realize other pitchers are being pursued as well.
Posted Thursday November 06, 2008, About: Rockies, Holliday far apart
They won't want to give him a 9-figure deal, so they should trade Holliday now to the Phillies for bullpen help and cash. Phillies need a LF and they would be better off signing Holliday to a long-term deal instead of giving Burrell what he is looking for as a FA. If they wait till the July deadline, they risk him getting hurt and then getting virtually nothing for him.
Posted Thursday November 06, 2008, About: Yankees eye Brewers' Cameron
No, no, no, no, no. I'm not opposed to trading Melky, but not for a much older player who hits .250, doesn't draw walks, and strikes out way too much. Melky, Betemit, and a young pitcher should produce a much better return than Cameron.
Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Yankees interested in Hudson
If the Yanks needed someone at 2B, Hudson would be a good candidate...but Cano has too much upside. I agree, give him another year...plus if he were to be traded, the Yanks would need to each some of that contract. Girardi is supposedly good at firing up the younger players, so Cano should be one of his projects.

Package Kennedy and Melky to see what can be obtained...may not be much, but it's worth a look. I liked what I saw from Gardner in CF.
Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Giambi headed back to Oakland?
Giambi still has a good eye at the plate and can also pop the ball. Unfortunately, he sees himself as a first baseman when in fact he is nothing more than a DH. I will not miss the adventures that came as a result of him throwing the ball.
Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Randolph, Valentine on Mariners' list
They don't need a low-key manager...they need someone to instill some life into the clubhouse. Valentine certainly can fire up the team and is the better of those two choices. However, does Valentine even want to come back to MLB?
Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Phillies fire coach after Series win
Willie Randolph needs a job and would be a good 3rd base coach. Plus, if Charlie really wants a low-key guy, Willie certainly meets that requirement.
