You don't even have to take away the SEC fans to stay WAY over 80%. I'm a life-long Bama fan and there is only one USC. No, it doesn't reside in the SEC, except in the minds of South Carolina fans.

Bamagrat96 - The burning of Saban act was a promotional stunt put on by a local developer trying to promote some condos he was building and was NOT endorsed by the LSU administration. Since such an act would more likely fall under the banner of freedom of speech than hate crimes, it is neither the right nor the responsibility of the university to stop it. If you want to fault anyone, then let it be the media. If it doesn't get televised then only the 200 or so people there would have been aware of it.

LSU fans should take a hard look at their play calling, not their quarterback. 'Bama went through the same issues last year when Wilson was asked to make high risk / high reward throws called by Major Applewhite, usually with high-priced consequences. We quietly "allowed" our coordinator to return to Texas as an assistant (NOT a coordinator you may have noticed) and got a better one. That type of playcalling only works if you have markedly superior talent or a REALLY good VETERAN quarterback.

2008 annual football head coaching salaries: Missouri $1.875 million, Washington $1.470 million. There are at least 405,000 reasons not to go. Should make for a nice renegotiation though.

Walking out on a basketball court is quite a bit different than thousands of fans swarming over the fence / hedge and rushing out onto a football field where over 200 players and coaches are attempting to get to a locker room. Perhaps being in the ACC you really don't get winning FOOTBALL tradition. When was the last time you saw a goalpost come down at USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, ND, etc? Never. And you won't see more than a few hundred (at most) of their 90,000+ fans on the field after a big victory because winning even big games is expected, not shocking. Those on the field are there for themselves, not for the players. Haven't you noticed how annoyed the players and coaches are by the kids on the field acting like THEY did something. Players are looking for other players to congratulate, and generally look with distain on the wannabe fans running around getting in the way of those who have earned the victory on the field. If you stay at home, celebrate at home. If you sit in the stands, celebrate in the stands. If you play on the field, you have earned the right to stand and celebrate on the field of battle to the applause of those who came to see you.

Schools with a tradition of excellence (1) don't tear down their goal posts after a win, (2) don't rush the field after a win, and (3) don't have to use the "f word" in a chant before a simple kickoff in order to feel like they are "in" the game. Students who grow up without such a tradition and the associated history lesson from their parents about how to win with class can't be expected to know any better. And if the school's Board of Trustees REALLY wants to stamp out the chant they have the right to end the sale of student tickets at the traditionally discounted prices and fill the stands with more appropriately acting fans. Of course, most Boards wouldn't dare to do it, but students who really believe it is "their" school don't get it. It is NOT just your school, but the school of every prior graduate, and they, through the Board, can end your chant in a heartbeat.

I think the light just came on for Schiano, who only now realizes why wise coaches leave programs such as this IMMEDIATELY after they have their first good season! I'm betting he is out of there if he finishes above .500 and gets an offer . . . from anywhere!

The quarterback talent hasn't changed at UT. David Cutcliffe is gone . . . again. UT has only been good when Fulmer has Cutcliffe, though Cutcliffe looks pretty good without Fulmer right now, even at Duke. I'm pulling for UT, hoping they'll go about 7-5 and be just good enough to keep Fulmer employed. Alabama, Georgia, and LSU can put some of that Tennessee high school talent to good use as they begin avoiding the mess that is UT.

I'm sorry, but just what do "your" been-to-the-national-championship-and-got-thei- butts-kicked-twice-then-did-it-again-at-USC seniors "deserve?" Surely not another try for a title at the expense of other MORE deserving seniors on other winning teams.
Posted Friday September 19, 2008, About: Alabama chasing Auburn recruit
I'd guess Monday would be a GREAT day to give the guy a followup call, as the Auburn nation will be having a collective meltdown over their offensive woes. Never mind they are playing against a great LSU defense. They will be calling for someone's head, which will feed right into Alabama's recruiting goals. If you are outside the state of Alabama you can't imagine how paranoid Auburn fans are right now about the (real) possibility of a return to the 60s and 70s domination by Alabama in the state after (1)Saban's Tide absolutely swept the recruiting for the state last year and (2)the state of Georgia, a traditional Auburn recruiting ground, is being more effectively recruited by it's own state schools. Alabama fans aren't helping the matter either, with their "of course we'll be a national power again" attitude despite recent problems. The fact that it is actually happening is more than the Auburn faithful can "bear".

Excellent news. That's one LESS team filling the New Year's Day bowl schedule for the next six years.
Posted Thursday September 11, 2008, About: Sapp calls Urban 'classless dirtbag'
I didn't know it was Urban Meyer's job to stop the University of Florida from scoring on Miami. After Nebraska kicked Alabama's butt in the Orange Bowl (yes, I'm a Bama fan) Coach Bryant was asked what he thought about Tom Osborne "running up the score" on Alabama. He stated, "It is not Tom Osborne's job to keep Nebraska from scoring on the Univerisity of Alabama. That's my job." And Warren Sapp's idea of class is tearing the NFL's all-time leading receiver Jerry Rice's knee out with a facemask tackle in 1997. What a jerk.
