(2) If Meyer said, "Oh, I'm not sure if I will leave next year or when Weis is fired," then he would kiss recruiting goodbye. That's like saying, come play for the Gators and the next Ron Zook!
If Pat Dooley didn't write an article about Meyer staying and instead wrote something like the Cocoa Beach Florida Today publication which had national publicity, he would have been relegated to journalism in a small village West of the Everglades.
(3) Herbstreit just wants a news story about the Buckeyes to fill time on Sports Center.
(4) Why???? Why leave Utah when you built a competitive program? Why leave Florida when you have won 3 out of the last 4 national championships? Ask Spurrier....(who was a Heisman trophy quarterback at Florida in the 1960s and a legend at Florida as coach when he left and transformed the program)...if you win that much, all you can do is disappoint.
What coach couldn't follow Weis? And, if you are a Lou Holtz of the modern era at Notre Dame, you go down in history....forever.
It's his final chapter.
He has a $500K buyout clause in his contract with Florida and with every other team at which he has coached.
His daughter at Georgia Tech can catch a Delta Flight to South Bend, Indiana. Meyer has enough cash that she could take her own plane.
(2) Meyer had unfinished business at UF. It's called winning National Championships with Tim Tebow. Now that Tebow is graduating and now that Notre Dame has one less year to pay on a ridiculously expensive Weis contract, they are ready to make the deal.
(3) In the SEC East, the Tennessee - Florida game will decide the division. UGA doesn't have a shot. Vandy, Kentucky, and South Carolina do not have a chance. Alabama will continue to dominate the West.
This is the perfect time for Meyer to go to his dream coaching job!
who said in his book that the Notre Dame head coaching job is his dream job....
and reiterated that sentiment as recently as LAST DECEMBER!
He has a $500K buyout clause in his contract with Florida and with every other team at which he has coached.
I am calling it a 95% chance.
If the Gators win a third national championship this year, 3 in the last 4 years, it is 100%.
His daughters are gone (to college).
Tebow graduates this year, and his highly regarded back up is a drop-back passer.
Spikes is gone next year to a top 3 draft pick.
Tennessee will be better next year.
Addazio is not he second coming of Mullen, so the offense sputters, and Percy and Murphy are really missed at Florida.
It's the perfect environment for Meyer to go to Notre Dame.
(1) He's done the impossible at Florida, and could have the national title 3 out of the last 4 years.
(2) The Gators cannot win the national title next year, so it would have to be a let down.
(3) How often does the coaching job at Notre Dame open up? How hard would it be to follow Weis???
(4) With legend status at Florida, it might be time to introduce another chapter at Florida, or they could reintroduce Spurrier, so he could go out king in 5 or 6 years. (Find a young guy being mentored by Spurrier).
Urban Meyer = Notre Dame 2010
At best, Urban Meyer comes to South Bend next year and starts winning games, but Clausen is not a spread quarterback.
At worst, Clausen ends his career or tarnishes his draft status by getting injured, and is it just me, or have you seen first round draft picks suddenly lose millions of dollars by returning for their senior year THIS YEAR!
- Sam Bradford - must have lost $10MM in his career now
- Tim Tebow - the concussion might make him drop to Round 2
- Colt McCoy - if he left last year, he would have been a top 5 pick
Clausen is gone.
How could you possibly think Weis will still be there next year.
Pryor has been over-hyped by "potential" all year long, and I remember at the beginning of the year how the Big 10 Homers were all over Pryor's Heisman candidacy. He never had a chance, and he will never be a dominant college QB. He certainly will not play QB in the pro's, unless he's dying to be another Vince Young.
I still think Samuel is a great back.
This little piggy went to market...this little piggy went we we we we we out of the OSU game...and lost the starting job for the rest of the season.
