What is it with Boston teams including coaches/managers in player trades. It looks like the Sox did OK with getting Farrell but it just seems odd to trade a coach.

It will be tough for Anthopolous to become a seller after all of the hype of the off-season. They had a terrible April but have played pretty well since and could easily be at .500 at the All Star break. That would make them borderline between playoff contender/pretender.
Posted Monday June 10, 2013, About: Bautista's temper hurting Toronto?
...but at least he had the cojones to make the moves. We've had a "build for the future" attitude in Toronto for so long and it was nice to finally come into a season with hope for the post-season - too bad it's been squashed!
Posted Monday June 10, 2013, About: Bautista's temper hurting Toronto?
I am starting to feel sorry for Alex Anthopoulos - he was smart and patient and built a solid minor league system and then went for it this off season. It looks like all of his moves backfired - this could set the franchise back five years (giving up all of those prospects and taking on those contracts)
Posted Monday June 10, 2013, About: Bautista's temper hurting Toronto?
When Brett Lawrie came up to the Jays, a lot of us thought that Bautista would be a good influence on him. Unfortunately, it appears that Bautista learned this bad habit from Lawrie. This behaviour only serves to hurt the team.
Posted Thursday May 23, 2013, About: Blue Jays' Friday starter is 'top secret'
Clearly, the off season moves haven't panned out as planned. That said, I'd rather have GM (and team) that goes for it. There have been many years in T.O. where the Jays wouldn't take any risks,
I think this is the "jump the shark" moment. Having one per year is interesting - have this many games that are far way from a real game (bad ice, etc.) is a joke.
I agree...the only bigger farce is deciding games with a gimmick like a shoot out!
Posted Monday April 29, 2013, About: Dickey headed for an MRI
...and for the ownership group that ponied up a huuuuuuuuuge increase in payroll.
Posted Monday April 29, 2013, About: Dickey headed for an MRI
What are those loud noises you're hearing? Folks in T.O. are jumping off the Jays bandwagon. What are those sobs you're hearing? Staff at the CBC are crying over the Leafs not playing the Habs in the first round!
Posted Thursday April 25, 2013, About: Anthopoulos' claims rankle rival GMs
I just wish that Anthopoulos could use the waiver wire to get better fans at the Dome - it's an embarrassment to see how many so called fans are behaving.
Posted Wednesday April 03, 2013, About: TSN prepared for 10 hours of ... twiddling thumbs?
Aside from whine that the Jays lost one whole game? Maybe we should have a royal commission on the state of baseball in Toronto. :-)
Posted Wednesday April 03, 2013, About: Boo-birds chirp Blue Jays on Opening Day
As a Jays fan, I found the booing embarrassing. This was game 1/162. While the playoffs are not guaranteed by any stretch, this team should be in the hunt in September for the first time in many years. Let's enjoy the ride in T.O.!
Posted Monday April 01, 2013, About: Something 'dramatically wrong' with system
The biggest problem in baseball is the payroll disparity. According to Deadspin, the Yankees payroll is $228,995,945 and the Astros payroll is $24,328,538. Even the Blue Jays payroll (who spent like a big market team this summer) is $118,244,039 - just over half of the Yankees payroll. MLB needs a payroll floor (like the NHL) and a better cap system!
Posted Monday April 01, 2013, About: Yankees-Red Sox a 2013 dud
The entire division should be interesting. I don't think the Sox have done enough to improve by 25 games (which is what they'd need if they want to make the playoffs). Tampa Bay seems to be the safest choice to win the division (Toronto a close second). Given that the AL West teams play Houston 18 times each, it's likely that at least one (and possibly two) of the wild card teams will come from there....looking forward to September!!!
Posted Monday April 01, 2013, About: Bobby V slams Boston media
It was the Boston media that orchestrated the "Hire John Farrell" plan. Should be an interesting year in Beantown!
Posted Monday March 25, 2013, About: Wells deal a panic move for Yanks
As a Jays fan, I have to say thank you to Mr. Cashman - he has just reduced the Yanks chances to contend!
Posted Monday March 11, 2013, About: Happ 'very' frustrated by role
He's a great insurance policy for Toronto but I'm sure he doesn't like being a "6th starter" in the minors. My guess is that, if the Jays rotation looks healthy, he'll be traded by late May.

So does Ron Wilson get hired as an Assistant Scout? :-)
Posted Thursday February 21, 2013, About: Burke's next gig
In a cost-saving move, MLSE fires Bryan Colangelo and gives the job to Brian Burke - Colangelo is retained as a scout.
Posted Tuesday February 19, 2013, About: Toronto bidding for 2016 NBA All-Star game
Would love to see the 2016 NBA All Star game in TO....Toronto seems to be a lock for the 2017 NHL All Star Game (100th anniversary of the Leafs)
