It's ironic that the Steelers ended up drafting Ta'amu's greatest college nemesis, David Decastro, who was almost single-handedly responsible for the only zero-stat game of his career at Washington....a game where Ta'amu took himself out of the game in frustration....what a fantastic situation for the Steelers to have! The ultimate challenge to drive this fiercely proud big man... I want to sit on the hillside in Latrobe this Summer and watch those two go at it in training camp!!!
He would have been a top-20 pick had he not tested + at the Combine, maybe top-10 if he want involved in tattoo-gate and suspended @ OSU......Steelers were fortunate he had "character issues" when it looks more like he was just being a "dumb kid"........the fact that he drove from OH to Pittsburgh, just to apologize IN PERSON, to Tomlin, Colbert and Rooney, goes a long way to show what kind of character he actually has...this kid already bleeds B&G and was heartbroken at the realization his f#ck ups cost him a chance to play for the Steelers (the ONLY team he contacted in person)....
Say hello to the reincarnation of Alan Faneca......Behind Pouncey and DeCastro, the Steelers have gotten back the guaranteed short yardage game they used to for so many years. First and goal now no longer means 3 passes and a FG.....
If you look at only the # of receptions and yardage, then Ward's stats admittedly come nowhere near, say Jerry Rice's....but name another WR who played as complete a game as Ward.....as I said before, for most of his career, he played in a "run first" offense, which certainly affected his opportunities to make receptions and yardage.... You think Jerry Rice would have the numbers he had playing for the Steelers over that same time period?
and yes.......I think Ward deserves to be in the HOF....
So......you come up with ONE QB that had the surgery while in college, and ended up with a very short and mediocre career in the NFL, and say thats a "great sign" for Peyton? As far as the 99.9% figure is concerned, since you apparently have the time to research...why don't you look up every NFL player that has had the same type of injury/surgery as Peyton, and see how many returned as starters in the NFL?
ANYBODY would be an upgrade to that coattail-riding hack Arians........I used to sit and call the offensive plays during Steelers games the past few years........Handoff, bubble screen, deep throw, punt......
I bet Ben's does....now. He was what? 23-24 when that happened? You do stupid things when you're in your 20's.....alot of people do stupid things at ANY age, lol! I don't think he rides anymore.........at least without a helmet...
C'mon.....really? Arians was an unimaginative, untalented hack that rode the coattails of Roethlisberger's unique ability to keep out of harm's way (at least for the first couple of seasons) long enough to make something out of nothing.....His play calling was so predictable that EVERY opponent felt like they had "Spygate" information. Let's see how great an OC he is at Indy... he will need alot of Luck (pun intended) if he expects to see anywhere near the success he had with the Steelers...............
If Payton appeals, and he has until Monday, Goodell said he "probably" would allow him to continue working past the intended start of his suspension. Goodell also said he would expedite the appeal process and his decision, meaning Payton might only get a few more days of work before having to step aside.....sounds like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of scenario.....
You can only make that argument if you assume that those rules are uniformly enforced....how many times did Ward get "creamed", even last year, where there was no flag? If the zebras don't make the call....which IMO, they do on a very inconsistent basis, then the "rules" are a farce....
C'mon BG...comparing Stoudt's role to Ward's with the Steelers makes no sense....I do see your point in regards to the limited # of total players inducted per year.....agree that there are players already nominated that will probably get in the HoF first.... MY point is that, despite playing in possibly the most run-oriented offense in the NFL for 10 years of his career, he managed to put up some pretty decent numbers....how would Jerry Rice have done playing for the Chuck Noll/Bill Cowher era Steelers? think about THAT.....
All good receivers, admittedly.... not going to dispute these on a case by case basis (although of those, Marvin Harrison would top my list )...remember though, Hines played 14 YEARS, and ANY Steeler fan knows that for many 8 or 9 years he WAS the go-to guy, but certainly that wasnt the case the past 4-5 years....as you said, judge the player by their ENTIRE career, not what you remember most recently..................and I'm sorry, but winning when it COUNTS, DOES matter...players before have been inducted on the strength of their playoff/SB performances.....
Finally, I'm not saying that Hines is a 1st ballot lock, by any means...nor am I comparing him to ALL HoF inductees, just against other WRs.......but beyond just catching balls, Ward's play exemplified excellence, dedication and determination, as well as heart...he wasn't a quitter, which several of the WRs you list questionably were.....
