The rotation Minaya put together before the season started was a joke. Beyond Santana he was counting on Pelfrey to be a #2 guy, Maine to come back at peak form from a should injury, Perez to not be Perez, and I think Tim Redding was their #5. Yeah that should tell you something.

The injuries turned the season into a disaster but even before that Minaya was counting on the offense to carry the Mets. With a healthy offense the Mets would have ended up being no better than competing with the Braves and Marlins for 2nd in the division.

Smoltz is my favorite player of all time, I took my dad to see a game in 2005 when he converted back to a starter. Had a no hitter going through 5 innings and made an amazing catch on a liner aimed straight at his ankles.

I was frustrated when management let him leave this offseason, and frustrated when I heard they cut Tommy. But more than anything I want my team to compete for the division this year, not have a 90's nostalgia fest.

I don't understand Peavy's end goal in his situation. Most guys seem to try and get the big contract first, then pursue championships and legacy. He's locked up with a big contract for the next 4 years so what is he doing?

Does Peavy think if he sticks around in Petco he'll put up HOF numbers? He's not winning a championship there. The only team the media suggests he'd definitely waive the no trade clause for is the Cubs and given their history I don't see him winning a championship there either.
