It was probably because he was male, too, right? Maybe it was driven by prejudice against injured football players in general. Or perhaps just anyone who has a first name. Suggesting it was driven by racism -- un-freaking-believable. Put down the pipe.

Loretta isn't really the piece that debunks this possibility. The greater factor is the re-signing of Casey Blake, which will keep Blake DeWitt at second, unless DeWitt were moved in the potential trade... Either way, Loretta will be on a one-year contract as a backup, not a primary contributor.

It's a bit early to start talking about Rich Rodriguez in the same sense. He hasn't had a full recruiting year to pursue the type of athletes who perform best in his offense scheme. Moreover, he's proven he can be successful in developing high school prospects into college performers. Weis has proven he can do decently with someone else's recruits and that he can teach blue chip recruits of his own to underperform.

Give RichRod 3-4 years to recruit and develop. We'll see the Blue resurgent.
