I originally thought UM was classless in not allowing Marve to transfer to USF or UCF. Then it was brought to my attention that UM plays USF next season and beyond. Fair enough. Then if the kid wants to be close to his dad because of the cancer issue, then UCF should be a valid option, and Miami should allow it.
Well, Miami doing something we're not familiar seeing them do: they exhibited class. UM ended up lifting the ban on not just UCF, but also on USF, even though the two schools play each other. With USF being in his dad's backyard, that seems like the most logical choice for a kid who wants to be with his ailing father.
Yet lo and behold, we see Marve getting bent that he can't go to TN or LSU! But wait, I thought the idea was for him to be closer to his sick dad? Why would Marve get mad about that, now that he's been given the green light to transfer close to home? I'm sorry, but that story stinks to high heaven.
Joe, please hang it up...so our coach will, too.
If true, then I'm lookin' like a friggin' genius from what I said all this week, i.e. that if WV and Mizzou lost, OSU could likely be playing LSU for the title. Many of you thought I was off-base. Howdoyalikemenow? ;)
GABoy, you are right: if TN beats LSU, WV loses, and Mizzou loses, then your Dawgs will indeed be playing the Luckeyes for the title. If LSU wins, though, you're going to have to rely on the charity of the pollsters...which could very well happen.
Like I said, you can make arguments for and against each of your teams (and both of you have done so). In my view, you should never play for a national title if you can't even win you're own conference. I also acknowledge that right now, UGa is red hot! I mean, they beat Auburn and FL by MUCH wider margins than LSU did. By the same token, LSU crushed a strong Virginia Tech team, and unlike UGa, they DID beat South Carolina. So yeah, arguments both ways.
But where I have to completely disagree with UGa fans here is their contention that LSU would NEVER jump UGa in the polls if LSU beats (especially creams) a TN team that put a beatdown on GA. They very well COULD jump GA if that happened. Like I mentioned earlier, UF jumped an idle Michigan last year because UF won their SEC title game over a solid Arkansas team. So if UF can jump an idle Michigan, then LSU COULD jump an idle GA team. DISCLAIMER: "could" does NOT mean "would". In other words, the pollsters, and NOT us fans, would decide.
I do happen to think it'll all be a moot point, i.e. WV will beat Pitt. But if not, then the SEC title game COULD determine the BCS #2 team.
That's not necessarily true. LSU could (not "definitely WOULD", but "could") jump UGa in the BCS polls with an impressive win over TN. How? Just ask Florida.
Last year, FL was ranked #4 going into the SEC title game. The same day, #2 USC lost. Most people thought that #3 Michigan would move up to #2. But since Michigan didn't play that day, and since FL did play (and won the SEC title game), the pollsters moved FL up to #2. That was good enough to get them into the BCS title game.
The same thing could happen this year. If #1 Mizzou and #2 WVU both lose, then #3 Ohio State would move up to #1. The only question would be if the pollsters would be impressed enough by an LSU thumping of TN to move LSU up over top of UGa, like they did with FL over Michigan last year.
We can argue all day over who is better right now, LSU or UGa. We could argue over who deserves to play OSU if the above scenario unfolded. But we can't argue that the possibility exists that LSU COULD sneak into the title game.
Of course, if LSU loses to TN (and the way both teams are playing right not, that's not a stretch at all), then the point becomes moot.
Happy?
If the coach says "You will wear suit and tie to the games", that's the way it is. If he says "You will not eat pizza during football season", so be it. If he says "You won't own a gun while you're in school", it's his way or the highway.
I may not like his reasoning, but I support his right to run his team as he sees fit.
