I'd just go ahead and give the late 1st rounder and sign Lohse. They have another late first rounder from Josh leaving. They would have a proven winner in the middle of their rotation for 3 years while waiting on Perez, Grimm, and whoever else to mature. Darvish, Harrison, Loshe, Holland, Ogando - that works
Posted Friday March 08, 2013, About: Lohse no closer to landing a job
That tag that is on him requiring a team to give up their 1st round pick is a big issue
Posted Tuesday March 05, 2013, About: Damontre Moore continues his decline on draft boards
Stay in school and get your degree and possibly win a national title and enhance your draft position. That is what many of these kids need to be told. Instead they are pressured by others who do not have their long-term best interest in mind telling them to grab the money now. Then they are out of football before they are 30 and have spent all their money.
Posted Thursday January 31, 2013, About: Arrogance to blame for weak Rangers offseason
I don't see it as arrogance. I see it as not overpaying for a FA and trusting the process that got you here, along with the farm system. Cashman might have wished he was more "arrogant" when he gave Arod the deal he got just a few years ago. 4 pitchers are locked, they need one more front line starter. Josh is a diva that was looking to get out. The young guys coming could be what propels them forward. They might have an off year this year, but sometimes you take a step back to move 5 steps forward. Just because a GM doesn't cave to these agents' demands doesn't necessarily make him arrogant. It makes him smart in keeping with the template that got them where they are now.
Posted Monday November 12, 2012, About: Chizik has a plan to turn things around
Coach, does your plan involve illegally paying a stud QB who has a great arm and mobility to come in for one year and win a national championship? If not, then good luck with all that! You guys already got away with cheating (you can't tell me that sCam Newton wasn't paid after all that came out from his dad). Just go away and enjoy your tainted championship and realize it will be another 50 years unless you cheat!

Anyone who thinks Kiffen didn't have this done is an obliviot!!! This guy is just bad every way you look at it!
Posted Thursday November 08, 2012, About: Mariners, O's legit contenders for Hamilton
The money is what is going to be the key factor where he goes. This is his only chance and the highest bidder will be where he goes...count on it.
Posted Thursday November 08, 2012, About: Mauer a perfect fit for Rangers
I think the Twins would be receptive given the price of the contract they wish that had not given Mauer. They could get Olt and Perez and rid the contract and Texas could platoon Mauer between C/1B/DH and get his left handed bat in the 3 spot. But Texas would probably want the Twins to share that contract if they have to give up prime prospects.
Posted Tuesday September 25, 2012, About: Jets shaken after Revis news
Wonder if the Cowboys could get a safety from the Jets for CB Mike Jenkins?
Posted Monday September 24, 2012, About: No one knows when to expect Hamilton
So does anyone still want to max this guy out? I really hope the Rangers only offer this guy what is realistic, and there is no doubt they will be smart. Any team that gives this guy a max contract is foolish! You can't depend on him.
Posted Friday August 24, 2012, About: MJD drama nearing end? Or just beginning?
He is getting $9 million total for 2 more years. Then he will be 29. From Jax's side, why in the world would they hit their future cap with crazy money going to a 30 year old RB that is undersized and will be worn down if trend holds form on RB's. They have a lot more pressing issues to deal with than to overpay this guy. Is giving in to his contract demands going to get them from a habitual 5-11 team to a 11-5 team. Of course not! He might be the difference in making them a .500 team, which is the worst thing a team can be. I would tell him to play his contract, and be done with it.
Posted Tuesday August 21, 2012, About: Rival GM: Beckett has to go
If I am Texas, Boston has to pay 75% of that salary for me to even consider it. And they don't get any of Texas' prime prospects. Texas would be doing them a huge favor, not the other way around.
Posted Wednesday July 25, 2012, About: Revis drama brewing
Is there any way we can get a different picture of this guy? Such a whip to see this everyday, and last I checked, the guy wasn't Deion; just a guy who has been anointed the best on a very average team!
Posted Tuesday July 24, 2012, About: Rangers getting desperate for Hamels?
I would not mind giving up a significant package as long as it was not a rental. That is why I'd really like Cliff Lee. They'd have him for 3 more years. As long as they can keep Profar, I am all for getting a "#1."
Posted Tuesday July 10, 2012, About: The sticking point with Hamels
The Cliff Lee contract is looking like a disaster. You can't repeat this mistake! You trade him and get prospects that will fill in your staff at a much cheaper rate in the near future.
Posted Tuesday July 03, 2012, About: Ware's with Jerry: Window's closing
Correct! There is no window, just a brick wall. I am tired of everyone buying Jerry's BS that this team is good enough to win big. They have one playoff win in 15 years!!! They do not have a GM capable of putting a quality team on the field. He is too busy promoting Wing Stop restaurants that he has bought with Troy Aikman and promoting boxing matches when he should be studying football players. Take note of your neighbors in MLB; they have a "real GM" and owners who stay back in the shadow to let their staff who knows what they are doing run the team!
Posted Tuesday July 03, 2012, About: Roenicke believes Greinke wants to test market
This guy and Carlos Lee ought to be buddies. This guy has a rep of not wanting to play in pressure situations. So a contender probably would not get squat from him when they really needed it, like the playoffs.
Posted Tuesday July 03, 2012, About: Lee mum on failed trade
Good point. Why not let the Astros trade you and let them get some prospects back to help rebuild, then you can resign with them a few months later? Because you don't care, that's why. Heaven forbid you go play for the Dodgers for a few months and then come back.
Posted Tuesday July 03, 2012, About: Lee mum on failed trade
He owns a ranch is the Houston area, and he scored big years ago when the Astros bid against themselves to sign this guy. He has to think about being gone for a few months to possibly play for a team that can contend. This guy is obviously not a winner, just a check casher. If the Astros bring this guy back (because you know he wants to stay since he is so comfortable), they better not pay him more than the veteran minumum or else they are fools.
Posted Monday July 02, 2012, About: Phillies put Hamels on the block
Hey, Cliff...how is that decision to take less money to win a ring working out? You could have made more money and be on a contender with a team that wanted you (Rangers). Oh well, at least you don't have to worry about being traded since you got that no-trade clause you desperately wanted.
Posted Sunday April 15, 2012, About: C.J. Wilson: Rangers 'wasted' his time
Here is a thought - why would the Rangers want to pay him what the Angels paid him when they have two other lefties just as good and the potential to be a lot better for much less money? Look at what they resigned Holland for, and I'd take him every time over CJ (he shows up in the World Series, unlike CJ). And they have two more in the minors coming! He can go hide in Anaheim in the 4 spot and rack up empty wins, and hope they don't make the playoffs so he doesn't have to expose his shortcoming once again...empty numbers and no substance when it counts!
