Okay, GT is awful in basketball this year, we're not even playing home games on campus, and I have almost no interest in basketball. But I have still gone to a few games this year, and when I do, I stay the whole damn time and I make it fun. The students aren't excited enough? Try to get them going!
I usually follow Sagarin's computer rankings compared to the AP's, since those are at least generated by crunching some numbers (and after there's enough data to connect every team, preseason rankings do nothing).

I'm just pointing out that mid-season rankings, especially when you get to the the 20-25 range, are pretty unreliable. Sometimes it may be a team nobody saw coming that's on their way up, but often it may be a team like Auburn that would have been unranked had they lost the same amount of games, just in a different order.
I think people are calling it a down year since they're used to both divisions having a legitimate shot at winning the championship (UF/Bama in '08 and '09). USCe, even with Lattimore, never really looked like they put a whole game together until Clemson. So people look to LSU and Bama, then look for the East's equivalent teams. And when those teams are 10-2 despite themselves and 10-2 thanks to a weak schedule, they're left wanting. So that's where the impression of a down year comes from.
Talent pool in Florida is drying up? Quick check of ESPN's recruiting site shows otherwise. 57 4- or 5-star recruits in the 2012 class hail from that state.
I say this looking at UGA's schedule unbiased, not as a homer: they had a very weak schedule this year. The best team they played this year? Us. And we're 8-4 with two very bad losses. If we didn't play lights out against Clemson we'd be 7-5.
Who knows, maybe Shaw will turn out to be as good as Harbaugh. I think either way there's going to be a dropoff next year (unless Luck comes back again, which I don't see happening), but they might claw their way back up after that. Only time will tell.
In that case, I'm pretty surprised I'm still in triple digits.
Not to mention we really had no business being ranked after only beating Duke by 7, I think that was just due to other teams' losses.
