I think he's talking about Harrell not even getting the chance to fail because of the "system/shotgun quarterback" lable ... in which case he's right. Harrell should at least get the chance to prove he can take snaps under center ... as a draftee in light of his other accomplishments, not an undrafted guy with a try out.

Totally agree with LABoy ... what is any statement about conference quality really saying? Sounds like setting up the apology for any loss that might happen. It's team versus team, and scoreboard, at the end of the day. Pac 10 went 5-0 in Bowl Games last season, but also had two schools that went 1-23 --- top=good, bottom=bad.

My problem with the Sec and Big 12 conferences is that they generally won't travel West ... it was like pulling teeth to get Arkansas and Auburn to sign home & homes with USC. UGA and Oklahoma will play other Pac 10 schools but won't play USC --- yet look at this blog ... everyone wants to see USC play Florida, or Bama, or LSU, or OU or Texas again . Would love to see it, but ... it'll only happen in a bowl game (not that USC doesn't try every year).

Last minute clause additions will kill any deal .. it's a sign of not bargaining in good faith. They're gonna lose Mike Leach ... I'm amazed that Bob Knight actually coached there (maybe he saw the writing on the wall when he walked?) unde this TTU administration.

Agree with midnight --- Rose Bowl will be closer than pundits think. In the end, PSU's D will be on the field longer than USC's, and Carroll's 2nd half adjustments, extra time to prepare, etc . will be the difference. Close until maybe even the 4th quarter ...

Props to KeepingItReal and Bruceknows --- they hit the nail on its head. The six BCS conferneces don't want to share the money. And the Bowls are willing partnersin not sharing.

And Richt, Brown, Carroll, et al, are for a play-off because CANNOT STAND IT when their "team supportive words" come out as simply shilling for their teams --- they know the gristmilll never lets them explain thier intent, that they simply "think their team can beat anybody, so just get me to that game". They don't like the position the BCS puts them in, essentially lobbinying pollsters.

Maybe someday TV money can swing things somewhat but that's it for chances at a playoff.

I agree w/ "ilikefootball" that tOSU's defense will be key to the game --- they are very good, as they should be with all the returnees, knowing their schemes so well, and being so athletic. But has anyone watched them practice? (I've seen 3 USC practices this year)

But I just can't get around USC's total team speed, especially THEIR defense. Pundits are probably right that Sanchez hasn't played a game against a defense as good as tOSU's but he practices against a BETTER one --- probably the main reason for his confidence!

My guess is the Trojan offense starts slow but figures out what they can do and then starts steam rolling like they did against Illinois in last year's Rose Bowl. And unless there's a bunch of turnovers that leaves USC's defense out there all day, I can't imagine tOSU getting much done against USC's D, with or without Wells.

I completely agree w/ ilikefootball --- tOSU'c defense is the key; they play up and USC has to work to score, buys them time ... to try something anyway. Buckeyes will have a very tough time scoring in this game, believe me (have watched three USC practices thisyear already ... anybody out there seen tOSU's D practice?)
